But didn't the Ricoh look fantastic when it was full against Crewe.
Dunno, I was boycotting the club because I was unhappy with our owners...

Again, location has nothing to do with the building. HR was on the edge of the city (Swan Lane was the boundary) when it was built surrounded by fields.
Character isn't something that's built. Its something that builds up over decades. No new ground has character.

But that's nothing to do with the actual structure. Your argument is like the people on those house buying TV programmes who wont buy a house because of the colour of the walls.
Im not saying the Ricoh is perfect, but the building, the actual structure is one of the best in football. All the issues you have brought up are more to do with how the ground is operated, not how its built.
A rather cheap shot from a normally sensible poster.
They certainly don't when it's a McDOnaldized football ground.
Safe, predictable, corporate, slick...
Soulless.
Not really, I *was* boycotting theclub because I was unhappy with our owners, so how could I know what it was like v Crewe!
Like I say, name a new ground that isn't?
As much as you or I don't like it, that is modern football.
Only way around that is FC City of Coventry.
So you would rather 4 identical stands?
I hate that look. The Ricoh's saving grace is having at least one unique stand.
The downward trend wasn't as much as people make out anyway.
To average 15k in a relegation season, the clubs worst in at least 50 years is marvellous for a club the size of CCFC.
But you can't judge a football ground based just on the structure, that is absurd. Would anyone buy a 6 bedroom farm house in Wood End? Location is everything. Dump the Emirates just inside the M25 and it becomes a whole different experience.
I'd also argue that the quality of the building itself is questionable. Most the money went on the on exhibition hall, hotel, casino and other conference facilities; the main stadium bowl is value engineered and the finish is poor. It was built with one elevation (much like St Mary's) because it is cheap. The concourse is cold and bleak (not even a false ceiling) and the exterior cladding is as cheap as it comes and is already discoloured and weathered. I don't mind a stadium that is a bit run down I suppose, it gives it character, but the problem with the Ricoh is that it fits neither category. It has none of that character you get at an old ground, but it also is not a very good example of a modern stadium because so many corners were cut in its design and construction. Add into that the location of it and the fact there is so much distance between the fans and the pitch and it adds up to a place that just isn't a very good football stadium. The acoustics are also pretty shit because of the raised roof (so many people who watch concerts there say the sound is appalling).
What you're missing is neither myself nor ferret have said in the slightest not togo back to the Ricoh; if it's a choice of a shit ground in the wrong town, or one in the right one, we've both said we'd rather the right one.
That doesn't mean we have to gloss over what to us are rather severe faults with the Ricoh. The very essence of the Ricoh switches me off football... just not as much as the essence of aCoventry club in Northampton!
That doesn't mean I'm not turned off being asked to cheer the Telent stand!
I hate that stand, makes it look like the stadium was open whenever we were on sky.

Interesting you say about the raised roof.
One of the main criticisms of HR in its later years was the low West Terrace roof. Made a good atmosphere in the stand itself, but trapped the sound in. That rendered it pretty useless for atmosphere around the whole ground. I used to be an East Stand lad and how the West Terrace sounded from there did not do justice to the noise the fans were making. Conversely on the rare occasion the placid lot in the family stand joined in, the atmosphere greatly improved.
I remember it being said at the time that the high roof was to allow to noise to travel around the ground.
Can't solve a corporate stand (of course you can, remember how many times the boxes in the Main Stand at HR moved around?), can't solve the bowl nature of it and identikit function (is it being a bowl an issue? HR pretty much had all the corners filled in), can't solve the single tier (the ability to extend to 2 tiers later if needed was taken out the build to save cost) (ok you have a point with that), can't solve the general blandness. (signage, banners, pictures etc)
Fine, you like it.
I don't!
got more chance of playing in new york. Our new ground will be based on Rotherham's New York stadium, worth taking a look! Now that's positive!

I know it will be hard to believe but the countries grounds were mentioned by Mr. Fisher, 1st was in Russia and the second was in Qatar. I could not have made that up. That is why I said when I started this thread I cannot see any hope for Coventry while SISU are there. What grounds were mentioned
All of them.

I for one agree with you, but at my age I feel I will never see Coventry play in Coventry again. The Ricoh Arena is excellent ground, one of the best in England.

I desperately hope you do see us back. This is just a disgrace that we are being denied watching our team.
I even boycott watching goals on tv of SISU Northamptons home games. Its just too painful.
I will be shouting "SISU OUT" at Preston. Join me in the chant there!

Doesn't look too bad View attachment 3117 but still not great
It got an air raid shelter in the middle of the stand come on if that looks good.
It is shit same as Donnie Ground if that is what we get then Bye bye CCFC from me it is embarrassing.
