People can use the territory, foul winning and assists as much as they like, the simple fact is for a number 10 with the amount of chances O’Hares gets (wastes) and the amount of the ball he see’s - he should be hitting 6-7 goals a season.

I don’t want to turn this into a debate about a former player but McSheffrey was criticised endlessly on his return for us, playing at the top of the diamond as a 28 year old. McSheffrey managed 8 league goals two seasons in a row in a far poorer team. O’Hare won’t get close to 4 goals this season and this is in a far better team and on far more chances.

O’Hare isn’t providing the goals he should.

Not sure he’s a burden tbh works his socks off can’t fault that,

Shipley on the other hand is like playing with 10 men unless it’s transfer window time then he’s up for it

Looks about 0.1, it was the 76th min chance here:

Have you though? One “sitter” was played behind Györkeres and wasn’t an easy chance at all. The header wasn’t easy either. People think every time the ball comes near a player in the box it’s a sitter, it’s not.

I'm sure this will initially attract a barrage of insults, but as much as I really want the lad to succeed, he's not offering anywhere near enough for a championship attacking midfielder that plays every game.

I've heard comments that he is the best player we've had since relegation from the Premier League. Personally I don't see it at all.

I think we could sell him and whilst I'm not exactly confident the owners would reinvest it, should he go for the touted 5 million, even 20% of that would find someone who could score or assist more than what he is offering at the moment. Playing for territory is something wasps should be proud of, not us, and it feels like that and work rate are about his only major attributes. It's becoming a cult in itself though, and match after match there are people that leap to his defence in what in my view seems irrationally obsessive.

His stats in the league (last 3 seasons):

105 appearances
7 goals
16 assists

I've been at times really excited by him, and when we signed him from Villa permanently I was estatic, but that euphoria has seriously plateaued over time.

I'm not looking for emotive rage, just someone please, kindly and respectfully change my mind.

Hes created more chances than any championship player this season according to sky sports. Not much more he can do to win you over

And so are 100% of experts!
Remember project fear predicting 10 million would be unemployed and the supermarkets would be empty if we voted for brexit, why arnt those "experts" getting named and shamed now?

Anyway, to get back on topic, O'hare is a great player for the team, but a liability in the penalty box.

Are you suggesting a standard formula based on averages should trump a real world view?

The pedant in me can’t let the “he’d have assisted loads if other peoples finishing was better”. That’s simply not true. His xA is one goal higher than his assists.

We generally don’t create great chances. We create lots of average to poor chances and that’s a team problem. TBH I think it’s a Robins playing style problem as we’ve never been high scorers since he’s been here. We have a habit of playing two or three forward thinking players at most while a lot of teams have four or five. Our wingbacks are very defensive minded and even O’Hare as an AM does a lot of defensive work.

I think we have missed a number of 'good chances'. Not absolute sitters (though we have missed a couple of those two) but chances that'd you'd hope strikers would score every other one and an attacking midfielder one in three. Instead we're putting away about 1 in 5 and O'hare 1 in 20?

It's not like we're known for taking punts from long range, and ironically we've actually had a bit of success with that of late. We seem to be scared of shooting so when we do we tend to fluff our lines.

Good to see all those lower costs, less red-tape, extra trade and jobs from Brexit, and that £350m a week for the NHS too. And that wasn't overly optimistic outliers predicting that - that was the main crux of the entire Brexit argument.

Seems like everyone can have a short memory...

personally I agree with some of what you say in your OP but this is way off the mark.

Nottm Forest turned down £18m for Brennan Johnson from Brentford in January. He’s had half a season in the Championship for a team in the relegation zone for the first quarter of that.

£5m would buy youvery little in terms of goal scoring midfielders in the Championship - and then, somehow, you’d have to find their wages.

How can someone who has contributed 1 goal all season be described as "looking like a threat"?
He's a great player, and offers everything EXCEPT a threat.

His finishing is absolutely dreadful and his final ball isn't much better.

But he's still one of our best players and vital to the way we play.

Everyone is entitled to their view, but this is a crazy threat.

Our attacking threat would diminish to zero without him. And that’s without even thinking about the substantially weaker alternatives we actually have in our squad.

I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve said this recently; measuring ability by goals scored is dinosaur.

Watch how many times he drags us up the pitch, or receives the ball in tight areas, or creates opportunities via his pressing.

He is our most talented attacking footballer by some margin.

This is why we can't have nice things. O'Hare is not a player that is easily replaced. Like many have said, take him out of the team and we struggle.

No one matches his work rate and ability to create a chance but people want to replace him? Madness! We need more players of his ability in the team.

Exactly. I've loved the last few years, new grounds, winning games, promotions, going to Wembley and actually winning there... twice.

Now we've got to the championship, which I never expected to happen a few years ago. Apologies if I'm a killjoy now but I think that's about it. With the clubs situation, I think we've reached our peak. Hopefully I'm wrong again and we can have another special season.

You may well be right, will we, under present circumstances, be able to compete with the teams at the top end of the Championship, who have greater resources, and stronger squads? But we’ve had an excellent few seasons, and have played some really good football in the first half of the season. If we can consolidate in the Championship, and work to strengthen the squad, then incremental improvement would be good for me.

And as for the thread, I think we’d be a pretty poor and dull team without O’Hare in it. Yes, his finishing has been poor, and I do agree that his final ball could be better at times, but he gets us up the pitch, and does create most of the chances we make. I’m pretty sure that when Hamer is available, the team is built around him and O’Hare.

O'hare is are best player hands down always wants the ball and always gives 100% yes he could do with scoring a few more goals but he's only a young lad and with time and some work on the training ground the goals will come pusb ⚽️

The point is qbout chances created. I've given two examples of clear cut chances created by O'Hare that were missed.
If he'd missed those chances you'd be having a melt down.

If only Bright wasn’t such a fuckwit he would have been the perfect person to play as a second AM or even rotate O’Hare with

I guess we did plan for this at the start of the season but yeah he was his own worst enemy
