We can win for sure but I wouldn't take beating Sunderland as a given despite their poor form. Its two games and anything can happen.

If we get to the final I'd fancy our chances of beating Bristol, but again its a one off so anything can happen. Would be less confident against Sheff Utd than I was against Luton but I guess at some point we are due some luck. After having to play the last play off final with Vik and Gus not at full fitness and the VAR shambles against Man Utd maybe we're due one.

I think we're a long way from having a squad that has much chance of staying up if we did get promoted but I can't see that changing anytime soon as King isn't going to sanction crazy spending so at some point you have to take your chance and then just hope for the best.

I raised this idea in the group chat as I had felt similar. Was told to man up and go haha.

If we ever did win it at Wembley however fuck staying in London celebrating, back to Cov as soon as possible as it would be going off
I know what you mean. My earliest childhood memory was the immediate aftermath of 87 and it going off in the streets, flags everywhere, horns etc

And if we get there and it’s Sheffield utd and we lose, how shit is that gonna be with Hamer and O’Hare….
Although I would be 1% pleased that COH left for them 1. For money and 2. Easier chance of getting promoted and all it would have come down to was 1 game…..

I was convinced we we're going to make the play offs a month or so ago, and now I'm convinced we're winning at Wembley.
Think Sheffield United will slip up against Bristol City on the way

I'm not as worried this time weirdly. Last one felt like it was all or nothing and if we didn't do it we'd lose Gyok & Hamer and never make it there again.

This time I feel like we're a well run club with an air of inevitability about it all. Miss out this time and we may lose people but we'll replace really well and go again. Eventually it'll be our year even if it isn't this one.

On a personal note I think I will actually decide not to come over for a final. £800 flight, about £1,000 in lost work and the cost of a week in the UK is just a bit mad.

I was thinking we'd be making up numbers in the play offs and wasn't excited about them.

But getting up to 5th and facing Sunderland instead I'm starting to feel more confident.

But the biggest thing that has got me thinking it's our time is Clive leaving. He took over immediately after relegation and it just seems fitting that he'll leave as we make it back.

I'm actually more worried about losing to Sunderland than losing at Wembley. That would be absolutely vile. Those last 2 Wembley trips have made us hardy, we have a young squad locked in for a number of years the futures bright either way, these trips are what we should all live for win or lose.

We're gonna win it anyway! It's our time 🐘

It feels very different. Last time it just felt so unlikely we would get past Middlesbrough, and we were lucky just to have made the playoffs at all. That Middlesbrough away leg is the most nervous I've ever felt at a football game, and the most I've ever celebrated a goal, I went mental because it just seemed so unlikely we would get a win up there, and the Boro atmosphere was decent tbf to them.

After that I wanted us to do it so badly, for Robins to fulfill the prophecy of taking us all the way back up, and because we knew if we lost it meant we would definitely lose Hamer and Gyokeres (although I knew he would go regardless). We had the apprehension of what would happen when they go, we didn't know King was going to allow us to spend that much of the money and invest most of it pretty well. So we had to do it this time, it was our only chance! The way we lost by Hamer going off injured when I'm certain we'd have won way before penalties if he'd stayed on was a killer blow.

This time, I'm quite at peace with it. If we don't do it, I'm sure we'll have another good go next year. If we sell anyone, it will be on our terms and the money will be reinvested in improving the squad.

I'll be furious if we lose another 2 coin tosses before a penalty shootout though - 1.56% chance of losing 6 in a row!

I may be looking for omens too much but in our last playoff season we finished 5th, was at home first leg /away second and got beat by Luton who finished as the 3rd best team in league, and finished that season vs Boro, Sunderland was in the playoff semi.

This season we finished 5th, first leg at home/ away leg the second, Luton got relegated as the 3rd worst team in the division, also we played boro last game of the season oh and Sunderland are in the playoff semi again

🤣 🤣 🤣 Got to be out year this year lol

Same

Feels different this time around but cant figure out in a positive or negative way

One thing is for sure, I dont want to leave Wembley on the losing side again. The last 2 times have been the worst I've ever felt after a game and I cannot be arsed to go through that again
BUT you will leave triumphant at some point.....and all the hard ship will make it the best feeling.

Thats the joy of supporting a team like City, we will always have more heartache, but when those amazing moments come they make it all worth it.

We will get to wembley im pretty sure this season....gotta keep rolling the dice, thats what its all about!

Good points SBD - and here's another omen re Mr Eakin :-
In 1987 the long-time City correspondent for The Evening Telegraph - a Mr Neville Foulger - also announced the 1986/87 season would be his last covering the Sky Blues. The Wembley victory was his final match report.

And then we all knew it absolutely was not destined to be our day once we saw Dabo start the long walk to the penalty spot 😬
I genuinely didn't. I know hindsight is amazing, but I fully expected him to smash it in :(

We never do things the easy way, so I suspect Friday might be more difficult and anxious than some of our fans are predicting.

And 25000 viewers all experienced the same, the force was not with Frankaty that day.

Think taking Sunderland over two legs for granted is pretty weird and dim behaviour tbh.

Weird and dim is a bit harsh to be fair....

People are allowed to be optimistic for relevant reasons:

* They're in dreadful form
* They're 23rd in form table from last 10 games
* They've lost their last 5
* They've only scored 4 goals in their last 10 games - next lowest is Watford (7), Hull (8) and Boro/Stoke (9)
* Even Preston, who are 24th in form table last 10 games have scored 3 times the goals that Sunderland have.
* By comparison, we've also scored 3 times the amount (12)
* They have to be fair conceded one goal less than us in the last 10 games (11 vs 12...but how many are 'Collins goals'?)
* They're 21st in form table from last 10 home games
* We're 3rd
* Away record over the last 10 away matches for both teams is comparable. They're 5th (14 points), we're 6th (13 points)
* They've only beaten us 3 times in 19 attempts since the start of the century
* The last time they beat us was 18 years ago (granted, we didn't play them between 07-18)
* Since then we've beaten them 5 times and drawn 5 times
* CBS last 5 - 3 wins/2 draws
* SoL last 5 - 2 wins/3 draws

That's before you add in the effect since FL has had since taken over, how much Rudoni has improved etc.

The Cov of old, I'd be like, yeah, they're due a win...and they might get it. But the above, FL and the atmosphere within the team and likely at the CBS on Friday, I'm pretty confident of a positive result.

All of those points are exactly what I mean. People are treating it like all we have to do is turn up.

Optimism based on form is largely redundant at this stage.

Anything can happen in a 2 legged KO situation.

dont think anyone’s saying that, we’re more confident than they are and that’s for a good reason, look at our home record, these are the games we love now, Sunderland, West Brom Mboro 9points 7 goals 0 against, can’t not be confident
