Did he? Come off it. Simms didn’t show any movement at all. Removing your main threat was just strange.
Agree Big G, I’ve said it 3 seasons now and I don’t care how many goals he’s scored, he is just not very good. Look at their big unit up front tonight, fuck me… go compare

I know everyone loves Esse, but he’s a luxury. Tremendous goal and one great flick but that’s it.

Said it a few times, but Sakamoto offers more overall.

Doesn’t help Esse when the 10 and other winger are also anonymous. Not sure what Frank does as he can clearly be a game changer but we can’t afford to carry him, plus 1/2 others.

Torp has a few great offensive passes, but lots of wasted simple ones and off the pace.

Grimes is well off it, which disrupts the whole team. His passing range was went from missing simple passes to trying to overcompensate with shit Hollywood balls.
Esse seems to burn out very early in a game.

Lowest marks have to be saved for the system. No central midfield. No full backs. We’re playing a central midfielder with the engine and pace of a blancmange in the most open system there is. And we’re getting smashed. We got lucky in the last two home games. System must change. Surely got to see Eccles or Allen for Torp for a while now.
Its god damn mental system. We have got away with it at Boro too when Conway missed open goal on 80 mins. They shpukd have been 3-2 up. Their heads went down.

Its such a shit formation..the kind you dont see in football.

The first change should have been Saka for BTA - move Esse central, he’s clearly dangerous in central areas as shown by that shot off the post against Leicester. At least give that 10mins.

To then take Haji off was just bizarre, I’m sure Norwich fans were pleased to see it. At that point change the system and go two up front if you’re desperate to get Simms on.

We looked totally innocuous after the final changes apart from when Yang got himself in to a good position and completely shat himself.

Kitchen,Thomas,Dasilva,Grimes,Torp,BTA all not at the races-that’s over half of the team that started. You can carry that many and expect to get anything out of the game.

We were discussing this during the game. He's great going forward, but not sure if he's lacking the match fitness to do the dirty work just yet. I don't know if it was under instruction but did you notice he kept drifting inside a lot? i'll probably get laughed at but i'd like to see him in the 10 and Tats back out wide.
His goal came from being in and around the box, he's also had some brilliant little touches to our strikers in the last couple of games, that have managed to pick the defence apart, also from in and around the box.

Not a good performance as a team or as individuals. More questions than answers at the minute and that is not a good place to be when you are being hunted.

FL going fo have to get hold of a few or the players are going to have to have a players meeting because they look like they are playing with fear.

Who actually played well?

I do agree MvE had one of his better games for a while. Esse gave it a college try, but for the first 20 minutes I genuinely don't think he touched the ball.

The rest of the defence were shocking. The midfield didn't exist. The forwards were ineffective, which was paramount to this formation, so therefore it didn't work.

The mentality is all wrong from the players at this point. We look weak and second best. Not up for it as much as the opposition, who work harder and want it more. It does my fucking head in as I feel like I'm saying it every week.

That free kick in the last seconds of the game, with everyone including Rushworth in their box, and Torp hitting the first man. Honestly I could have knocked him out I was so angry. Pathetic all round tonight.

MvE was good. Wright ok; don't know why he's getting criticism. Esse in patches.

Kitching, Thomas, Dasilva and especially BTA absolutely fucking pathetic. BTA should be embarrassed with himself.

Lampard: 0. Wrong set-up, and taking Wright off when he was a biggest goal threat was a joke. Changes don't have to be like for like, you know.
I know why take him off when he was our only goal threat and going back to the playoffs second leg wright was awful and Frank kept him on all game 😏

We just seem to have lost form and are now stuttering trying to get it back.
Rudoni hasn’t looked the same player since his return from injury and that’s the case for Torp as well and now BTA maybe its fitness but with Rudoni it’s being said he’s carrying another injury.
The concern is Grimes looks like sideways sammy at the moment, think he needs a rest but we have no one to play his role until someone comes in (fingers crossed).
Positionally we are letting the opposition have loads of space and people aren’t being disciplined in their positioning.
Obviously just an opinion but for me it’s what I’m seeing.

The midfield is where we are going wrong IMO. We are basically playing 4 2 4 with the 10 playing off the 9 and wingers pushed up high.
Leaving 2 in midfield, one as a sitter and 1 as a box to box 8 which sees us over run in the there all the time. Grimes doesn't have an out ball as Torp is 40 yards away up the pitch, the 10 isn't dropping deep to pick up the ball so he's trying to play 40-50 yard balls all game or a pass to Kitchen/Thomas.

Once we lose the ball a quick transition to either of the wingers sees Grimes having to cover the full backs leaving a gaping hole in the centre for opposition runners. Torps recovery pace is the same as an asthmatic sloth, MVE has ran past our winger hoping to get the ball and JDS is stood waiting for the ball by EMC. Neither of our current centre halfs are that good defending and drop clangers regularly.

We either need to play the double pivot and an 8 or a 6 and 2 8's to give Grimes more passing options. It's no use everyone running away from him as soon as he picks up the ball.

You're about spot on with your analysis. Dasilva and BTA are looking like they were and the CB's look like they did before Grimes.
We need a change in strategy and personnel quickly

Him changing what's not working away from home will be the catslyst.
He has to play 2 holding midfielders.
Eccles has to be a fixture there with Grimes starting Saturday.

Think that would have worked better last night for sure

I was excited when I saw the team sheet last night, because it was so attacking. Was a bit worried about Torp and Grimes in the middle, but thought that if we were going to attack them and pin them back, it wouldn't matter so much.

For such an attacking line up though, we didn't have a single shot between the 6th minute and the 37th minute when we scored.

The Burnley blueprint from last season. Away from home they bossed the midfield with a tight, solid unit and 2 DMs sitting infront of the CBs.
