Shaquile Coulthirst -Barnet
Would suit our style, He is a goal scoring wide player who was player of the month in league 2 several times last year. He is out of contract in the summer but not 25 until November.

Hickman, is hardly shining at Hereford and that's 3 levels below us. He's also not particularly highly rated. He is ok, but would not be happy with him as second choice RB. We do need two.

So do you drop Hiwula? Or move him up top? If so, I don't think he can play the Lone striker role as when he has this season he has been woefully lacking.

I think Hiwula now suits that left side role would keep him there thomas right if we can keep him & a proper centre forward

I'd have that big number 11 for shews, don't know his name but worked so hard for them and in a good team could score a shed load.

Our recent record of signing Shrewsbury players hasn't been good.

Also I noticed that Vincelot is in their squad. I had forgotten about him. Doesn't he get into their team now or is he injured?

Sounds a good shout to me. Looking at his stats he tends to play up top a lot more than out wide but with the way we play there’s a lot of benefit in having almost a right-sided striker in the mould of Hiwula on the left.

Had a flick through the players whose contracts are expiring throughout the leagues and picked some names out that may be worth a look:

Mark Bunn - GK (Aston Villa)
Frank Fielding - GK (Bristol City)
Andre Green* - RW (Aston Villa)

Tom Eaves - ST (Gillingham)
Curtis Nelson - CB (Oxford)
Luke Berry - CM/AM (Luton)
Jordan Clark - RW (Accrington)

Hiram Boateng* - CM (Exeter)
Chuks Aneke - AM (MK Dons)
Jacob Mellis - CM (Mansfield)
Lawrence Vigouroux - GK (Swindon)
Joss Labadie - CM (Newport)
Christy Pym* - GK (Exeter)
Sammie Szmodics* - AM (Colchester)

Green hasn't been offered a contract and doesn't look likely to be at the moment. Would take him

Pym is 24 so we wouldn't owe compensation. Would take him

Boateng would be a great signing, but would depend on how much we would have to pay.

Clark could be a shout.

Wouldn't take either of Bunn or Fielding.

I’ve spoke of Pym and Boateng of Exeter a few times previously and think they fit the profile of the club in the transfer policy we have previously recruited in.

Jordan Clark is another who I rate for L1 who I’d like to see arrive.

Ticks raising the average age box and experience levels and quality required for L1.

Hope he turns out to be another Trevor Peake, but I watched a bit of the Dundee Utd v Ayr game, and I couldn't work out what Rose's strengths were. Didn't look that strong in the air, didn't look all that quick......and I found myself looking at the Ayr right back, who had a much better game (forget ghis name, but mentioned it on a previous thread). Really hope Rose is a good one, as he's a bit 'old' for 'one for the future'. CCFC scouts will have seen more of him than me!!

I had a few quid each way at 20/1 on us to win the league this season before it started
It was 100/1 a few months in
I'm the eternal optimist but 18/1 seems a bit skinny unless the bookies know something we don't

His stats for Ayr certainly back that up, 48 goals in 57 games.
He's also a Scotland U21 international. 6' 1" and only 23.

I like this part of the year, speculation galore who comes, who goes etc, etc. Had loads last year don’t think any where right except perhaps James Collins who chose Luton instead of us, speculation again. MR will have his wish for list and has said he will move early to bring newbies in, he did last year. He has said he wants to up the age profile which tells me there might not be a large influx as we have experienced in recent years. Two goalkeepers I’d think are a certainty, don’t think Sterling will stay so a right back of similar type will be needed. I think he’ll run with the centre halves he has if Willis stays. Midfield is interesting will the have to say sudden emergence of Jordan Shipley at centre left might give him different thoughts. Lot will depend if we do sign Bright then there’s up front from a goal scoring point of view we were hopeless really but the creativity was there. Need a striker.

Watched some clips looks a complete striker who can link play would suit our 4231 system rumoured to be upto 15 clubs interested in him tho but with Rose coming from Ayr could be a player we could possible snare

We need a hardcase alongside Kelly to win back the ball and be a leader in the dressing room. We hade a few too many of the Fancy Dan type of player, nice though they are to watch

The foundations of the squad are absolutely fine, we don’t need a complete overhaul, plus I’m sure 1/2 of the U23’s will surprise us and feature more next year (Burroughs? Williams? Hickman?).

I’m not sure why we need two RB’s, one first choice with a youngster supporting should be fine. Sterling has been ever present this season, so his replacement plus Hickman should be fine.

It’s unanimous we need an experienced keeper this season. I’d spend a fair bit of the budget (O’Brien, Burge and Addai’s wages) on finding one. Then either pick up a high potential youngster or an experienced player keeper/coach.

If Willis doesn’t sign, then we’ll miss his pace but Williams seemed to have pace so could be a longer term replacement. If Davies goes, then we probably need another CB (they’ll be loads), although if Rose is first team ready potentially not.

I’d sign two wingers, as Hiwula isn’t an out and out winger and that’s assuming Thomas is going back. If he stays I’d still sign another. We have Jones, but not sure he’s going to be the player a lot of people think he is, and that’s before the injury.

Striker wise, unfortunately I’m not sure what Chaplin offers. Accepting all the arguments (first season starting games, away from home, young etc), I struggle to see his strengths. This isn’t another McNulty (and to a lesser extend Hiwula) situation where the potential was clearly there. Bakayoko is very hit and miss, and isn’t a striker to lead the line. Although I think he can offer something. If one becomes available that will significantly enhance our team then we should, if not then we trust what we have. Biamou will be back too and is a better fit for the lone striker role, he’s a great link player.

The striker situation also depends on who plays 10, I’d keep Bright for all his frustrations as he’s a game changer. If not, we need to recruit.

Two minds over another CM, Kelly is a stand out and I like Shipley in there, plus we have Bayliss and Westbrooke too. Granted it’s very inexperienced.

Overall, RB, two wingers (Thomas dependant) and a keeper are definites, CM, CB and striker are dependent on what’s available and what happens to our existing squad.

Friends dad most likely started this

Since he’s not actually that old I can’t see it. Plus, if we are signing a GK, we have to sign one with the intention of then playing the whole season; can’t have someone trying to play two roles. Bit like when players try player/manager roles; it never (ok, rarely) works.

But played 36 in the league, but granted if taken literally he’s not an ever present.

Pedantry aside, my point is still the same; he’s clearly been MR’s first choice RB, so if we sign another in the same mould in the summer, we don’t need to sign two. I’d rather that than a repeat of the LB situation this season.

Not seen enough of Hickman to know myself, but I do know he was highly thought of previously. Sounds as though things may have changed.

No, Hiwula is our best striker so I wouldn’t drop him. I’d argue he’s not had a fair chance in the lone striker role, but I accept he doesn’t have the attributes for a typical L1 lone striker. None of our strikers from this season do. If he didn’t work there I’d keep him left wing, but still sign two wingers as it will benefit the team to have two natural wide players, plus Hiwula. It also gives MR options and cover for injuries.

It's not pedantry, 'ever-present' literally means 'someone who played in every game'.

If you miss one game, that means you can't be an 'ever present'.

Hiwula is no good with his back to goal, it would be mental to play him as that lone striker. He's great in his position (which isn't left wing it's basically an inside forward).

Nope and Hiwula doesn't play on the wing. The concept of 4-4-2 is so entrenched on our football psyche that we can't compute that each player isn't just playing a position in that system!

Do nt get the sudden love in re Shipley.
Rarely wins a tackle, 50/50s are never won.
Passing is woeful most of the time, generally over hits balls..
Numerous occassions does nt track back with opposition players.
Has a reasonable shot, I ll give him that.
For a central midfielder he can nt be described as a ball winner and we ll be truely fucked if he s a play maker..
