One of the main reasons for our success thus season

Who’d argue with holding out for £15m back then and he has to be worth £20m plus now

Not that I would sell him
We never really heard the story there did we? I think he agreed to stay and was rewarded with his new contract but we'll never know if he was going to be allowed to go to if he'd wanted to. In the end we sold Sheaf very late in the day instead.

MVE isn't just important on the pitch. He is one of the biggest characters off the pitch as well. You can't put a price on the importance of someone like him. He even gets the quiet members of our squad to come out of their shell.

He has earned his place in the Prem with us. Can't see him wanting to leave and can't see Lampard wanting to get rid of him unless someone comes in with a stupid bid.

I mentioned in another thread, according to Jody Morris, Lampard had to have big conversations with him and Wright, about giving us 1 more season. I'd imagine he was extremely close to leaving. top player though, really excited to see him in the premier league.
The version of that that I heard was "a couple of players" and people have drawn their own conclusions. I think it is probable that MVE was one of those. Haji was injured over the summer and it just seemed unlikely to me that he was in a strong position to be leaving. He might well have believed at the time that his chances of going to the WC and starting would have been increased by moving to the PL. He might even have been told that in the US team environment. Simmo was really the one who appeared to be unhappy at the time.

It makes sense that it was MVE and Wright, theres been rumblings about them since we lost to Sunderland. In terms of Simms, i'd imagin that Lampard would have let him go.

The other potential is Rudoni, there were talks of an imminent new contract for him which went quiet aswell.
