I noticed he kept rubbing his eyes with the backs of both hands - almost as if he was trying to wake himself up! - It didn't work!!

Regarding the Klopp decision to take Kent back our question should be why has no one else similar been brought in ? Looked like at one point this Dutchman Hooi was coming in, then some youngster from Liverpool find all that unbelievable.

All I recall is TM saying a deal for a wide midfielder fell through.

Sounds like maybe we only had the one lined up.

I think the lack of a right winger since Kent left has affected Murphy's affectiveness for a start opposition now man up on him I agree he perhaps should work a bit more but basically Murphy is there to create chances and score goals

We do not miss Kent in any way, shape, or form and I wish people would wake up and see it.

It's nonsense. He offered absolutely nothing to the team. He couldn't pass and he couldn't shoot, and even if he got round two players the ball would end up out for a throw in.

The confusing defences and pulling defenders across is also a myth as if you were to do so you would have to find a player afterwards to exploit the space. He never did!

I don't think anybody expects him to be winning headers against opposition centre halves in our area or putting in nasty 50/50s.

Just stop being such a wuss and help the team out. If he loses it, then try his best to win it back. the problem we have down the left is that Stokes often overlaps him and brings their right midfielder with him.

If Murphy loses it and just stands there, it leaves their 2 right sided players to bomb on against Stokes.

Agree with this, and your comments about giving him a few Stella's.

The problem is, because he won't often pass it either, Armstrong doesn't get as much service from one side, also we don't get forward in numbers as much because the left back/right back knows that not only will they not get the ball, but also when Murphy inevitably loses it we are left extremely exposed at the back.

We've not had a decent crosser of a ball since Hutch and Rees.

From what little I've seen of Rose I think he can cross a ball

Joe Cole can put a great ball in.

The problem is it doesn't matter how great the crosses are when it is Armstrong up front on his own.

Centre backs are more likely to deal with a cross in the air rather than one which is bouncing through. A diagonal cross behind the CBs would favour Armstrong over the CBs and that is the sort of cross Rose put in on his debut

All he needs to do is show a bit of fight.

If he thinks Hussey keeps fouling him (which most of the time he wasn't) then take a yellow and put a strong tackle in or get up and get in his face. Instead he sat on the floor shouting at the ref, probably wanting to make daisy chains or something.

It is as if his mind isn't in it. Give him a couple of Stella's before the game, tell him that their right back is shagging his missus and is going to knock him out as soon as he gets chance.

He probably needs to play on his natural side.

Seems odd that the hugely experienced and talented Joe Cole has to play wide left - why couldn't he have been on the right.

Another case of favouring the individual over the team.

They're both right footed. I presume Cole plays left because he's played a good 80% of his career there.

His brother is left footed and is playing left wing for MK Dons so I presume he played predominantly left wing through the academy and u21's and our Jacob Murphy played predominantly on the right.

I think you'll find Gary Mac wasn't quick enough to take on a full back and cross into the box. Ok from deadball situations though

The same applies to Joe Cole . Brilliant from dead balls but can't beat a full back and put a cross in. Agree with you about Armstrong, think Henderson needs a run as target man.

He can put a cross in but there's never anybody in the box

He does that shimmy to beat the defender

Remember Kevin MacDonald? He could barely move but could hit a pass from one side of the pitch to the other with no trouble.

I'm talking more like Hutch, Rees, who could take on fullbacks, beat them and pull the ball back from the byline for the big striker to meet it around about 8-10 yards out and bury it. A keepers worst nightmare is that cross into the box. Just that little bit too far to go for it. The times you see keepers caught in "No mans land" is unbelieveable.

Yep, the same as the ones whipped across between the defenders and goalie at head height on the 6 yard line.

Whenever our players get in that position with this formation there is only ever Armstrong in the box and is usually outnumbered.

Hopefully tonight with Tudgay it will be different!

Perhaps the perfect example is Benno's cross for Houchen in the 87 Cup Final Clemence didn't know wether to go for it or stay on his line. :claping hands:

Murphy done absolutely nothing against Barnsley. Two subs used and he's still on.

What we need is some sort of system where the fans can let the manager know what substitutions to make :thinking about:

Remember that Dion was Prem's top scorer in 97/98 with probably 3 quarters of his goals coming from the head. Not sure how you can suggest we didnt have decent crossers of the ball that season?

I think you may need to retract your previous statement. You dont need to be able to beat a full back to deliver a decent cross

Perhaps David Beckham did beat his full back and cross, but I remember a lot of diagonal balls from half way into the defenders half

Don't think I need to at all mate. More than half of Dion's goals were from dead ball situations like corners, and free kicks, and a hell of a lot were with his feet. ....... Ps. Unless you are old enough to have seen Coventry play in the 60/70's you wouldn't appreciate just how many goals were created by the likes of Ronnie Rees, Tommy Hutch, etc, that took on and beat fullbacks and crossed from the byline.
