Could any of these league 2 top scorers be tempted? Top Scorers - League Two - Football - BBC Sport

I think the pick of league two are Charlie Wyke at Carlisle who Preston are chasing, Omar Bogle at Grimsby who's rose quickly up the leagues with excellent scoring figures, a few are after him.

Doncasters John Marquis has not long joined from Millwall I believe, Barnets John Akinde is a big cumbersome striker. Scored 22 last season with 9 of those penalties, on 17 this season with 4 of those penalties.

I do think we missed a trick with Cambridge's Uche Ikpeazu another powerful player who Watford released scored 6 in 18 league games who starting to find his feet now.

A target player who could be affordable is dare I say former loan striker Jon Stead scored 10 in 18 at a very poor Notts County, scored 11 last season there too and chips in well with assists. Still only 33, as a short term fix.

I had the same thought when i saw Stead's name in that list. County are knee deep in shite as well so it probably wouldn't take too much to tempt him away. Would be nice to go for a younger player who could do a few seasons though.

Oh please no Steve. I watched him play against Dover and he was absolutely shit, I could have done better!

No I seen that game too and he was poor but so were Cambridge, so you cannot judge a player on one game.
Shaun Derry has got them playing now tho and as we found out there a different side to earlier in the season. He's since scored 5 goals in the league in around 8 games since that night and Cambridge are one of the leagues form sides.

Seems he's settled, enjoying his football and Cambridge are seeing the rewards for giving him a chance and confidence to produce to goods.
Not the finished article but his sheer power and bit of pace causes problems alone, over 6ft powerhouse now adding goals to his game with assists too.

I'm just hoping Slade don't take any advice from Venus and let Venus push his ideas on him

I'm a little wary about the rumour of Marcus Browne from West ham, he's similar to the sort of players we signed in the summer, barely played a game in professional football and he was on Venus radar before Slade joined. If Slade is unsure, I hope he's strong enough to say no find me someone else.

Agree with needing a new GK and a striker though. Would happily take Murphy back and think Jay Simpson is the most likely option and I for one would be happy with that. Failing that look at League 2/Conference and try and pick up someone prolific at that level, Vardy and Dwight Gayle came from that route so can't be all bad

What about getting Blair Adams back ? Made a great assist last week on the league show . Was great for us . Miss that attacking left back . RS would get something out of him .

With our lack of set piece specialist.... I've noticed Antoni sarcevic a versatile midfield player who helped Fleetwood gain promotion from league two scoring 15 goals and in the league two team of the 2013/14 season. Not as prolific since in league one but still worth his weight in assists.
He left to join Shrewsbury on a free in the summer after 3 years at Fleetwood, played for Shrewsbury until Micky Mellon was sacked, fell out of favour under new boss Paul Hurst and subsequently just been released to free up some money in the pot to get Hursts players in for there battle with the drop.

Another 6ft player and still only 24, could be worth a look as we've not really had a set piece man since Chris "magic" Maguire curled in those 2 wonder goals at MK.
Could well be another piece of the Slade jigsaw and would suit his direct approach and set piece methods.
I cannot see him requiring much of a wage and still open to a little more improvement.
With Slade a league one and two recruitment specialists I'm sure he's appearing on his pin board.

Slade likes a target man...
Oliver Hawkins currently at Dagenham and Redbridge, another brace today so scored 17 goals in 46 games in just under a year after joining last January from Hemel Hempstead.

Still learning and climbing up the leagues from non league football, only 24 and 6'4" a likely target man looking at his assists, 3 top goal scorer in the national league (conference)

Most likely not quite the answer to our goals the rest of this season but may chip in with a few, clearly a threat at set pieces but one for the future... no doubt Peterborough will steal in soon.

I just love the positivity and how quickly Slade has sourced players. No fucking about and straight down to business, knowing what he needs at this level. Makes you wonder what those pair of plonkers we're doing all Summer! Utterly pissed this season away in an astonishing manner! I know there's a long way to go but having been encouraged by what I saw at Peterborough and vs Bolton, im 100 times more confident than I was watching the last Venus debacle.

I think Slade knew for two or three weeks he had the job and lined up a few deals.
Still think he will bring a keeper in.
And we need a centre forward a big fucker I hope !

I think if they didn't know before hand and came on 1 or 2 days notice it shows the faith they have in Slade

back to potential target discussion love it!....whatever happens with Slade it just shows how Mogga and Venus were totally clueless at this level with regard to recruitment, combined with zero ability to attract players.

It's gone a bit quiet on this front, hopefully see a bit more movement on Monday or Tuesday.

I think we've steadied out after 4 players recruited in 8 days of the window. Think we may see some leave now unfortunately.

Tho clearly we've not finished just yet...

Still hoping for a striker and another centre half.

Need to see who is outgoing though to be able to judge, we will be ok at centre half if Willis isn't going. Notice Stokes played there for the U23's as well.

I'd like a target man... a right winger who can cross a ball, set piece man if you like.

Defensively we will most likely need more cover as I do see Willis and Harries going.

I still see at least 4 more coming in tho likely in the loan area more

Bradford only really have 3 main strikers there using, from a squad of 4 tho now they've added Alex Jones who's scored 9 already in the league too as the goals had dried up a little.
I don't see them chopping in James Hanson, bit of a hero up there and been there just short of 8 years.

I think I'd rather take a punt on Oliver Hawkins at Dagenham.

We need players like Cohen Brammal, snapped up by Arsenal from working in a bentley factory and was due a trial at Shrewsbury. I hope slade can find players like this.

Just been reading about how he came to sign for Arsenal and effectively it came down to a chance decision by Brian McDermott to attend a Sheff Wed u23 game because he had a free afternoon and Brammal just happened to be having a trial there at the same time. I’m not sure you can legislate for things like that BUT it would be nice for us to employ a dedicated scout to scour non-league.

Being linked with a move for Ricky Miller today on twitter, he's absolutely banging them the goals in, in the conference and out of contract in the summer so won't command much of a fee. That's the sort of player we should be signing.

We missed out on a half decent free there, a bully.
