You threatened me with a phone call. I was truly scared by what that could entail. I had to change my phone number in case you could find the number linked to my account. I cannot imagine what you could have done to me on that phone call.

@Ccfcisparks threatened to meet me before the forest game. I spent that day frightened as to what he might do to me. Luckily he later admitted to not attending that game but that did not apprehend my panic. He’s admitted to not having any friends before which means he must be a truly nasty piece of work. I remember Gary deegan saying he was the pit bull and he has no friends. I just hope parks isn’t as good a fighter as deegan was as good a football player

European championships 2020 thread

One of our players of the tournament. However that 5th penalty should’ve been Grealish’s or Pickford’s. Better ask Gareth why he brought on Sancho and rashford to take pens then made Saka take one. Awful manager

‘Strange’ is another really cruel insult. I hope you aren’t this damaging to the mental health of people you meet in person

Your midnight posting session after a few WKDs was funny mate but may bel lay of the mental health angle. There's people on here who have had genuine mental health issues over the last couple of years and I think what you're doing is trivialising it a bit.

PM letter to President Macron: 25 November 2021

Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote to President Emmanuel Macron about preventing Channel crossings.

Isn’t it a little strange to publish it in the public domain?

The letter has got the desired response, it’s to create a distraction away from his government’s and his failings and to make himself look tough in the face of no confidence letters coming in.
It’s all too obvious and still people fall for it.

Johnson has stuck that letter out knowing full well the response it would get.

This situation really does require grown ups to get around the table and find a solution .

The last thing we need is Augustus gloop and veruca salt playing tit for tat

I'm not sure that an agreement to send migrants back would 'crack the business model' of the traffickers like Johnson says. Surely it's the opposite. The only way to crack their model and effectively make them useless is if the UK creates safe routes.

I despair of our “leadership”, it’s all just a jolly jape for a public schoolboy to bait the French.

Absolutely. If he was serious about resolving the matter and had genuine compassion for the people making the crossings he'd have jumped on the Eurostar and gone to see Macron, or at the very least picked up the phone.

Instead he publishes a letter designed to play to his fanbase. There is no reason to make it public other than to play to his fanbase or to try and embarrass the French.

It's not usually a good idea to try and publicly embarrass someone you're trying to do a deal with.

Do you not think it's quite possible that Johnson's advisors were fully aware of how easy it is to get France to cancel meetings and so this letter was deliberately published (which is not usual protocol) to get France to cancel the meeting so Johnson's govt could say "Look - it's all the Frenchies fault!"

Yep, doesn't make sense. They paid to come to England so sending them back just gives the traffickers the chance to get a repeat sale. Improves their business model, not crack it.

In fact, the traffickers would probably tip off the authorities to make sure the occasional boat was intercepted and the migrants sent back so they could make money from them again.

The way to crack it is to have a safe way to make your asylum claim that doesn't involve risking your life and / or paying thousands to criminals.

Macron has responded and, as some of us have said in here, making the letter public has not gone down well. Just stupid playground politics from Johnson to appease his fans which was hardly going to improve relations and cooperation.

There's only one political leader who can stop migrants getting into dinghies on French beaches and it's not Johnson.

No, there are two, in a joint effort.

One of whom is showing how little he cares and is doing his best to piss off the other.

That's not to say that Macron/France are blameless, of course they aren't.

Ironic that you start a post “grow up” and then fail to recognise that this is a world issue. This issue doesn’t start on the beaches of northern France. If you want a grown up conversation about it you need to start at the point of departure, what the situation is there and what’s the west’s involvement in it. More specifically what’s our involvement in it. Many of these people are fleeing regimes we arm and then carry out atrocities with.

The fact is neither France nor the UK wants migrants crossing into their country by the method being employed here.
One country can simply pass them on by turning a blind eye . The other has to react to that.
If the French want do what they always do and have a tantrum then the status quo favours them :
" Fuck the British, let them carry on crossing"
