True, but Conway also missed a complete sitter and it took a wonder save from Rushworth to keep Whittaker out.

The game could've turned out very differently if not for a slice of luck and a very very good GK between the sticks.

It goes to show though that if you don't take your chances against the best sides in the league, that they can and will punish you - which we did to Middlesbrough.

I still say that good teams which play poorly but still win are always going be well up there come the end of the season and even when we're at our worst we're still blowing opposition away.
Fair point on Conway, equally Simms was clean through first half and it took a brilliant last ditch tackle from Ayling to deny him. The goalkeeper is as part of the team as anyone else so I don't put that quite in the 'fortunate' category, it's what he's there for.

But fully agree with the second half of your post, it's been done to us countless times in this division.

We were ahead on the xG, even with Conway's sitter.

Boro had an awful lot of the ball but didn't really create much, whereas we were more of a threat with a lot less of the possession.

Holy fucking hell, what a performance.

We were under the cosh? Yes. Did we initially blow a 2-0 lead? Yes. Did we give up? No. Did we seize the swing in momentum at the end? Fuck yes.

I couldn't possibly be happier for Ellis Simms. He has taken the lumps he's been given this year like a fucking pro, knuckled down, bided his time and now taken his chance and then some. He is back to his best at the time this club needed him the most. No strops, no complaining, just pure class and elite professionalism. What a goddamned sensational performance from him today.

Liam Kitching of all people popping up with a brace reinforces to me that every member of this XI is playing at a high level and we can ultimately count on everyone to come through.

What a time to be a Cov fan

Wow, that was a rollercoaster of emotions. Overall, we deserved to win that game. It was a strange game because Boro dominated possession but often caused little problems, whilst we were clinical. The game defining moment was Conway missing that huge chance, if he buries that, they probably win it.

Every sub deserves a shoutout today, Allen came on and helped shore up midfield and Rudoni shown a glimpse of what we’ve been missing. KKH gave us a good outlet too although it came at the cost of nullifying Sakamoto imo.

Ellis Simms, take a bow. MOTM and he’s definitely staked a claim to start the next 2-3 games. It was really nice to see the players (even BTA doing a chicken dance) look happy for Simms at the end.

Ellis Simms, that was an immense performance tonight! The best 90 minutes in a Sky Blues shirt. That beats his performance at Wolves. PUSB 👕🩵⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Im not sure you get that performance from him tonight if you sign Bamford. Psychologically Simms would be looking over his shoulder but he knew it was on him tonight and his confidence/all round play was like his first season here

There's risks with a small squad and they might still trip us up but there’s also benefits. Everyone’s involved regularly and staying sharp

I still think we'll win this. Keep the faith.

We're top by a way for a reason

Captain Hindsight here.

But some of the comments when we were 2 all were quality. You'd think we were bottom of the table with some of the comments. We were playing the team in 2nd...they're there for a a reason. Their only issue was finishing tonight but they were organised and didn't capitulate when 2 down early doors.

Call me over-optimistic but I knew we'd win. Especially when Rudi came on. This season is different. It's happening gents.

Despite poor performances from some individuals, we've got enough quality in the tank to do things like we did in the last 20 tonight. Enjoy it.

Upto that point it was correct .. absolutely nothing not the formation switch or MVE at CB and KKH going wing back

Then rudoni came on and the game changed
My apologies, I didn’t read on from that earlier post and I missed your follow up post to say Lampard changed it and we won. Only saw the negative comment.

There's no argument to make really. We were dreadful for large spells either half.

The commentators also said the same.

But we've got the win that's all that matters.
The thing is though, teams have to score 3 to have any chance at the moment, the only team to beat us scored 3, and from memory, the only other team to do it was Derby who got soundly beaten.

I think really id have liked to have seen another man in midfield a bit sooner bevause we got a grip of the game almost immediately and probably wolf on for MVE would have made sense .. MVE had a poor night
