Message from King

A lot said exactly the same in 2001, go down, regroup and go straight back up, didn't quite go to plan.
Yeah but just saying something doesn't make it happen. In 2001 we were £60m in debt, in an ageing stadium that we didn't even own, and infected with a hideous loser mentality due to no top 6 finish of a division for over 30 years. Anyone without the sky blue specs could see we weren't coming back in a hurry.

We aren't the same club now.

We still didn't really sign anybody until 3 weeks after the World Cup finished. Also doesn't explain the Rushworth fiasco. If we wanted Hamer why did we wait until the Championship season had started and not buy him in June to get "our" pre-season in to him?

" Rushworth fiasco"

I'll explain it for you, Brighton played hardball.

4 games in and a rallying call from the owner… it’s the players he needs to fire up..give us something to get behind because at the minute half that squad don’t look bothered, torp the only one who showed a bit of passion…

Maybe the manager?

Do you get a head start in the championship if you put up a better fight in the prem?

I mean. Yeah? Surely it means you’ve got a better squad that will do better at a lower level or can generate more cash for a rebuild?

Honestly, looking at how King is operating, it’s pretty obvious his main priority has been the off-field stuff. All the money is going into stadium upgrades, posh lounges, sorting out Ryton, and commercial deals. It future-proofs the club's value even if we go straight back down. Feels like the whole mindset is: build a club that can comfortably bounce right back up if the worst happens, without gambling the house and risking administration.

The recruitment strategy is just classic "Championship Plus." We’ve kept the wage bill locked down, so we were never actually going to compete for proven Premier League stars. Instead, we're taking punts on players like Yirenkyi, Cherif, and Gboho. Even the players we did bring in who have Prem experience, like Awoniyi and Pinnock, are basically players whose old clubs didn't think they were good enough anymore.

The odds of survival for promoted teams are brutal anyway. It feels like King’s strategy was always to use this year to modernise the commercial and infrastructure side, spend just enough to give us a puncher's chance of staying up, but not put the whole project at risk by overextending.

This post basically covers it.
King makes mistakes and usually in time corrects them. He’s only as good as the staff he employs. The football club is a completely different entity to the one of 5 years ago and much of that is down to him. We have spent a lot of money and with a few tweaks will have a fantastic Championship squad. The bookies had us at 4/7 to go down and it’s hard to disagree with them. It’s got harder and harder for clubs to make the step up and stay. What we didn’t want is future financial instability and a bunch of aging has Beens unable to bring us back up again if indeed we do fall through the trap door.

Funnily enough I don't think it makes that much difference. Leicester finished higher than Ipswich/Southampton, Luton finished higher than Burnley/Sheffield United. Although I do think theres a difference for us fans in whether we find it acceptable or not. I accept we'll probably go down, i wouldn't accept us continuing to be as woeful as we have been so far.

Southampton went down on 12 points and still sold Dibling for £40m and Fernandes for £50m. The difference between the worst PL clubs and the top non parachute Championship clubs is immense.

Also all of the players will have experience in the PL so their value will always be higher than what we paid for most of them. So you get your money back and a bit more.

I'm really not that sure we will have a 'fantastic championship squad'. We'd have volume, which would have to be cut quickly, but I'm not seeing quality in many areas of the team.
As to player values I'm not sure failing massively in the a Premiership will increase the value of players. Not a given anyhow.

Dean, under 'strengths', you've just put 'signing players'…

Yeah.

That's your job, though. I was sort of looking for your skills within the job so is there anything else you could put there. Okay.

Under 'weaknesses', you've put 'building a Premier League squad'.

'To what extent do you believe that you have the skills and knowledge to perform your job effectively?' And then you tick one of the boxes - 'Not at all. To some extent. Very much so. Don't know. ' What would you tick?

Don't know.

OK. Question 2. 'Do you feel you have received adequate training to identify Premier League players effectively?'

What are the options?

Same as before. They're always the same. 'Not at all. To some extent. Very much so. Don't know.

Don't know.

Don't know again. OK. 'Do you feel you have given Frank’s squad the flexibility to score any goals?' Do you want the options again?

Yeah.

Not at all. To some extent - it’s always the same - very much so. Don't know. Always the same.

Don't know.

If 'Don't know' wasn't there, what would you put?

What are the options?

Not at all. To some extent. Very much so. Don't know.

Very much so.

Do you remember the question?

No.

Do you... We're going to leave that there.

Brilliant :ROFLMAO:

I am just looking at the season now and seeing how our new big signings adjust to the fast pace of English football. Yrenki is a perfect example. He is so dynamic but sometimes gets lost. We can nuture him through this year and then he will be a powerhouse in the Championship as will Sherriff. The parachute payments cover any losses and we can buy one or two on top and we will be good.

Neither Caleb or Sidiki will stick around to play in the championship.

The mood is because of performances though.

When it looks like the players can't be arsed and are scared then fans will get annoyed.
I think the lads are just overawed by it all but they will settle down. Especially MVE. He has mad the odd mistake as he is just "fucking wow" ans he has ADHD so his head can't compute that he is playing in the best league in the world

Fuck me, I said Championship. Since when were Bracknell in the Championship. I despair

And got whom?

As soon as the alternative makes one cock up, everyone's coming on here complaining that King didn't try hard enough to get his man. Signing CR is and was an absolute no brainerecente signed
Plenty of other keepers, we could have signed, for less money.

He isn't perfect and his ticketing fuck ups and U-Turns are becoming tiresome and some of his spiel rubs me up the wrong way

However - The club could be and has been in much worse hands

Even if we go down I have no reason to believe we will be taking 25 years to get back there again, the club is in a good place off the pitch which is a positive

He cost £20m?

If we’d have signed him fans would’ve asked why we didn’t just go and get Rushworth for basically the same money.
No he didnt cost £20m? Why do you lie?

Let's be honest, if we'd have gone for someone else, our stance on Rushworth would be entirely dependent on how well they immediately performed:

Play well: Rushworth would have been forgotten.
Be slightly underwhelming: why didn't we just pay Brighton whatever they wanted?!?!
