Sorry if this has already been posted but I think Mark Labovitch a director at Coventry City is a bit deluded as he thinks The Ricoh Arena would be a 'White Elephant' without City playing there.
I for one don't think he has much of a point as I know there is a lot of profit from drink and food sales on match day but a profit is being turned not just from Football and it is not like the stadium attracts other business such as concerts, Davis Cup Tennis, Olympic Football, Rugby World Cup 2015, various shows, religious events etc. Not to mention money coming from the Casino and Hotel.
I think the club needs the stadium and vice versa but if the worst were to happy I think that both could exist without the other.
No other ground I can think of exists that has a stadium and no proper resident. Who knows if the sponsors would stay either.
I agree with him.

The big green bit in the middle?
I'm sorry what is your point?

I agree with him.
A football stadium without a football team? Surely, that IS a white elephant, isn't it? What would they do with that big green bit in the middle? Jacky Isaac bangs on about the Olympics but she seems to forget that we'll never see that in GB again in our lifetime.
Yes you're right because all of the other events etc come to The Ricoh becuase of the football team..................... No didn't think so!
You seem to forget concerts, Rugby Union in the form of The World Cup and Heiniken Cup, other football games such as England under 21's etc, wow what will they do with the pitch???????
Your not really thinking at all are you?
And those Rugby World Cup games (which looks like will go to Villa), the Under 21 games happen every other week do they? And concerts happen in the middle of November, December, January, February, March, etc do they?
And again someone totally ignoring the fantastic point PSGM1 has made, he has worded it better than I, try reading it.
No other ground I can think of exists that has a stadium and no proper resident. Who knows if the sponsors would stay either.
What about the Millenium Stadium,
Why would any investor buy half of Acl for 30/40 million when a new stadium could be built for that which we would 100% own.
Why not a city with 2 stadiums, Cardiff do
Put a roof on it? Yep, fantastic. We could all club together and do for them in a weekend, couldn't we?
Bring some bits of timber, a hammer and nails and let's give it a go. Cloudcuckooland.

Forget Euro Rugby, Leicester has Welford rd and Northampton are now using the MK dons. You seem to forget concerts, Rugby Union in the form of The World Cup and Heiniken Cup, other football games such as England under 21's etc, wow what will they do with the pitch???????
Don't you just love it when people pick up on a point that supports there argument and not the whole quote...............................
RUGBY UNION...already been there, don't rule it out happening aswell as footballNo other ground I can think of exists that has a stadium and no proper resident. Who knows if the sponsors would stay either.
I agree with him.

What you mean like Hull?
The arena has limited earning potential PRECISELY because it's main tenant is a football club! FA Rules clearly state it has to have sole use on matchdays throughout the season, Typically concerts are more successful on weekends - thats why they hold festivals mainly at weekends ffs!
The concert opportunity is limited and grossly over-played. Also the belief that the Ricoh is a world leading concert venue is overplayed. Incidently I have seen REM at the City Ground Nottingham once in September when the season was already on.
So ALREADY before anything they have lost prime exhibition space for 9 months of the year!
No they haven't. The concert season is summer months and big open air concerts are limited. Also they receive a fee in most cases not an income from the audience fees
You cannot hold outdoor concerts in UK winters, but if a roof structure were put in place it is as big as the NIA and the O2 - no one saying THESE venues aren't profitable!s
Ah of course you can. Let's put a roof on the venue -- £15 - £20 million anyone?
If Exhibitions weren't so lucrative, please explain why else SiSU want their hands on the stadium? Cannot be the team - as they are supposedly losing millions. And they cannot possibly expect to be in the prem in 3 years with fair play rules in place and gates of 10k or less!
It is precisely because of FPP rules that extra revenue is required
So it MUST be for the stadium and or the land (although they seem reluctant to build further so MUST BE the stadium alone).
If you think the stadium cannot survive without the team - think again, plans are ALREADY in place to ensure it can survive!
Sure advertising will be hit, but will they really notice the loss of losing advertising from a local chippy or creche? Besides imagine the corporate sponsors prepared to advertise at a venue similar to the NiA!
The stadium is not the NIA it has nowhere near the credibility of the NEC. This is a nonsense argument and names sponsors Jaguar, Ricoh etc. will inevitable consider their position.
Well, help me out then and QUOTE the "fantastic point" that was made.
And your not picking up on sarcasm are you?
PSGM1 I think has said it all fella.
Do you know what carry on, you seem to like to shout down everyone who disagrees with you so please carry on, reasoned argument is beyond you.
Yes you're right because all of the other events etc come to The Ricoh becuase of the football team..................... No didn't think so!
Do you know what if your not agreeing with Grendal or Torchomatic YOUR WRONG! Because if your not rediculing someone who is not agreeing with you your point is not relevant and you will get shouted down.
I guess if you want reasoned argument or debate don't live in a world where Grendal or Torchomatic exist.

I have put a reasoned argument to you and stated that such a business model that is succesful does not exist.
From a location strategy perspective would you build such a complex so close to a major competitor?
Whose shouting you down? It's called a debate or did you just want universal compliance?
The Olympics is over and is extremely unlikely to be returning anytime soon,so not really relevant for future revenue streams. The Rugby World Cup at the Ricoh is I believe not yet confirmed, and they may yet go to Villa Park.Presumbably the Davis Cup will be played indoors, again not really relevant to the future of the football ground. In the few years that the Ricoh has been opened one casino operator has already upped and left. However much people try to spin it,the main focal point for the Ricoh is still the football club.Sorry if this has already been posted but I think Mark Labovitch a director at Coventry City is a bit deluded as he thinks The Ricoh Arena would be a 'White Elephant' without City playing there.

Ah, the old "turn the tables on the people who are trying to get me to back up my point, which I can't possibly do". As it happens I'm wrong fairly often!
So what ? Do you think any new owner of the Ricoh isn't going to maximise it's uses. Plenty of examples of Football clubs and Rugby clubs sharing grounds. I suggest you get your head out of the sand my dear.Fair enough. Let's count how many games over the last seven and a half years, shall we?
