The first season parachute payment is £50 million on its own. Whoever is relegated will be much stronger than us spending wise and even if they struggled initially, double relegations are very rare. For the novelty, I’d like West Ham and Villa though Bournemouth would be easier to maybe get points off.

Villa were the closest team we got to play regularly and we couldn't get a win against them in 30 years. If you were around for any part of that and you don't feel a bit of rivalry then your head needs a wobble.

Not up to it? He's got double figure goals in PL for an awful team.

Players who have done far less get sold for millions.

Granted he started well, 2 in his last 13 after 9 in 16 tells me he's been worked out.

Strikers who are 30+ with only 11 premier league goals don't go for "millions"

Pukki also has 25 international goals, experience in the Bundesliga etc.

Someone will offer a good few million quid for him once they go down.

He'd scored close to 30 premier league goals, but a valiant effort.

In multiple seasons for a far better team.

0/10 for effort

15 in 12/13, 13 in 13/14 then was sold before 14/15. 38 premier league goals before being sold to Liverpool. Far greater pedigree than Pukki.

Thanks for your input.

Yes, but in the second season he got 13 goals in a season and was signed for £4 million six years ago. Also bear in mind most of his football was in the lower leagues up to that point.

Not sure what any of this has to do with my statement below, but its good to know you can use google maybe more practice with the calculator is needed.

He's spot on. Villa and West ham more likely than Bournemouth or Brighton for e.g, of storming the league next year

I wouldnt mind playing them but prefer we play weakest opposition possible next season as a priority.

Is there a need to be this patronising? Lambert hit 13 in a season and was signed for £4 million. Would the season before that, with a similar ratio, make a bearing on Liverpool spending that on him in that season?

Apologies, I can get like that when I'm right.

I simply stated that Strikers who are 30+ with only 11 premier league goals don't go for "millions". It seems you thought Rickie Lambert fitted into that category, to which I pointed out that you were wrong as he had scored close to 30 PL goals at the point he was sold for 4m.

Do I think Liverpool would spend more money on player that had scored 28 PL goals over 2 season as opposed to 13 in one season, yes, obviously.

They quite often mortgage the subsequent seasons too , gives them well over £100M.

£4 million on a 32 year old who had just scored 13 goals that season. Pukki will be a bit younger and have a similar tally for a club that’s been bottom for most of the season.

Grant Holt who had a great first PL season at Norwich followed by a mediocre one, was still signed for millions but by a Championship team. Though he scored a similar number to Lambert over 2 seasons the poorer second season probably reduced the interest in him.

You seem to be using semantics here when the examples exist-not common, but they do.

Once again, this is all really great info but it does nothing is disprove my point.

Grant Holt was sold to Wigan for 1.6 million, not relevant to the "millions" DoD has been touting.

Villa when they were last here were spending over £70 million on wages. It’s another planet though they’re risking a huge amount if it failed.

Think we need to be more conscious of who comes up and who stays up. Our goal is to better 3 teams over the course of the season. If Wycombe, Luton, Barnsley and Rotherham are all in our league next year I wont care who comes down. They are just as likely to get tonked by the relegated PL teams as we are.

We won’t see eye to eye on these examples I guess. In general it’s the season that’s just gone that has most bearing on the clubs interested and price paid.

Do Villa and Bournemouth have Football League sanctions waiting for them due to FFP? Or did I dream it?

Ontop of parachute payments they are also likely to have 60+ from Grealish and offers for McGinn and Mings. All depends how you spend it though. A return to signings like McCormack and Hogan and it wont be as easy as the disparity in budgets would suggest it should be.

That's not the point though, if there are stronger teams in the league then they are more likely to take points off other teams.

Fair enough, I think what is has shown that there really isn't a precedent for Strikers who are 30+ with only 11 premier league goals going for millions.

I personally think Pukki is closer to an older version of Mitrovic, I think he'll stick with Norwich and bang in plenty next season as Mitrovic has done with Fulham this year. Time will tell.

Exactly this, if was a Forest/Derby/Fulham/Brentford fan would I want Bournemouth down instead of Villa/WHU probably yes, in our position don't think it really makes a difference apart from I would be very excited to play Villa twice as opposed to Bournemouth

Overall yes, though Lambert and Grant only had one more season and both had no PL pedigree prior to that. Time will tell but in the age of stupid fees who knows what Pukki could get from a promoted side.
