In fairness, Waghorn's game isn't really about him being massively prolific, he has a lot more about him than just an out & out goalscorer. He was brought in to assist with the pressing & historically creates pretty well for others too.
There were some positive early signs here but since his injury disruptions I think it's fair to say he's struggled.

Pressing and running requires athleticism which, as many of us know declines as we hit 30. Also, wear and tear takes toll and injuries compound the issue.

Walker might come good as a support poacher to Godden if he can get his head in the right space. Tavares might feature more next year.

In terms of “Target man / bustling pressing striker”, Gyok is great but we need another with height and power. We need to get someone in. It might have to be a lower league striker like Luton got in Adebayo to fit in with the budget or take a huge risk in someone like the giant Hudlin (I don’t care who laughs, a 6’9” striker will provide a puzzle to any defence) (cue “he’s done FA this season - I know - he’ll therefore not be expensive and is 21 and may suit our 23’s).

I’d 2/3 lower league risks in our 23’s to support Gyok than rely on paying the same in total for an ageing Waghorn.

I’d be trying to offload Waghorn or at least get him loaned out for part-wage cover like we had to with Beavon. Use the wages on young gambles from lower league or a Prem youngster with an option like we did (kinda) with Gyok.

I think it was a huge mistake not having another big striker in the squad this season. Gyok has been run into the ground.

Where do you even start with this? “Bad players are actually good because they’re cheap” is critical thinking from another dimension.

The key word is “young”.

Not many youngsters are the finished article. They develop - some quicker than others. See Jamie Vardy for details.

Bad player.

Sorry - not one of your better posts.

And WRT Hudlin, my personal opinion is that because he’s chosen to remain at Brum Uni he’s not developed as quick as he otherwise would if he had out all his energy into football.

My view - fair play to the lad. If his studies complete this summer then he has scope to concentrate on football and may well develop.

Sorry. Have to laugh.

What are you saying? Players can only be good if they’re expensive? O’Hare was free. McAllum peanuts. Bad players?

Taking a risk on youth isn’t critical thinking from another dimension.

Tell me I’m wrong again?

The other view is he's not very good, so has made sure he's done something to actually get a career!

Correction / apology.

Hudlin is at University College Birmingham doing Sports and Fitness, not Brum Uni.

Many / most young players don’t make it.

Our tie in with Warwick University may show many advantages if we can make sure our younger players do some proper study rather than sit in their XBoxes when not training.

Couple of times.

Last time was v Wigan as a sub for half hour on TV. Looked awkward.

There - honesty.

Flattered to deceive, even at NL level. Admittedly in limited minutes as Solihull have been fantastic. There was talk of him being loaned out to the league below where he's playing now.

Not only are you wrong again, you’re apparently losing grip on reality.

God help us if our recruitment team start buying young players on the grounds of them being tall and underperforming for Solihull.

There was once on CWR or whatever it was called then a debate as to if we needed to sign up and train Marlon Devonish to play football as he’d have a lot of pace and I’m not joking

Tyler Walker an unused sub last night for Portsmouth, I'm sure it's not the first time either and think he's only scored once since his move

Doesn't help our chances of offloading him in the summer if he can't get into a 10th placed League 1 side

Didn’t get on again today despite the game being in the balance. Unfortunately seems like the Cowley’s have given up trying to get a tune out of him

'Spectacularly failed' - the verdict on Pompey loanee who will return to Coventry as a Fratton Park disappointment

Tyler Walker has ‘spectacularly failed’ to prove his worth during his brief Pompey loan spell and is set to turn into another forgotten Blues man.

Not a good look for Tyler, the replies to this article on Facebook from pompey fans suggests they don't like him at all and many echo what our fans say about him .

I don't know where we go with the lad , hopefully he pulls it together and can start banging them in next season be it here or elsewhere

Thats probably where we’re at. Hope he sorts himself out over the summer and plays for a contract. Can’t see anyone taking him off our hands at the moment.

If we can ship out Waghorn and bring in either some pace or a stand in for Györkeres then I’d be OK having Walker as a fourth choice.

But would he be OK with that? And would we be OK with having a 4th choice on presumably quite high wages?

Obviously if we can't get rid of him then we don't have much choice. But it's potentially a big wage sat on the bench for 5 or 10 mins here and there.

With Godden's injury record, Walker might get more opportunities than expected.
Guess it's up to him if he can get some confidence back and crack on. He's got the ability

Walker may still come good. His record is good and if he starts firing in goals and is kept in the team when he does I still think he’s a capable player.
