IF we do, by some stretch, manage it. And there's at least 270 minutes of football to go yet, but let's say we do. We have a manager that, against all the odds, with no money and no hope, kept Everton in the league. Yes, we won't be looking at top half finish. No, we won't be anywhere near a chamions league spot. Yes, we'll probably lose most weeks. But just survival in our first season would be huge and a massive stepping stone. If Brighton/Brentford/Bournemouth can do it, then by fuck so can we! You can't have a chance to stay in the premier league if you're not there to begin with!
In Lampard we have a manager, not only with experience in championship play-offs (like us, on the losing side so wanting to right that wrong) but also experience on keeping even the most doomed of clubs up. In Lampard we trust!

We shouldn't be worried or scared about getting promotion. It would be difficult at times knowing you can get thumped in any game. But it happens anyway. Does anyone remember Yeovil in League 2?

As long as we kept realistic we could still have fun. Go to grounds many of us haven't seen. Have a chance of causing upsets. See what Lampard can do with his contacts as there's many capable young players at bug clubs that need the experience. We have a few players that could well hold their own against many sides.

And IF or When we came back down we arrive with a stronger squad with a few pennies in the bank we could become a side that plays at the top end of the Championship.

It’s all about picking up ten wins from the 14 games against the rest of the bottom 8, that’s Everton, Wolves, Spurs, Man Utd, West Ham and the promoted teams. Different kettle of fish in a league game to a friendly or a cup match and 30/42 points is a tough ask but do that, get a few draws and maybe one win against the rest and you’re in with a shout.

Im not sure you do it from where we are without a massive squad rebuild though. Look how far we are off Leeds and Burnley before you get to anyone else.

Ultimately you want to be in that group of clubs that’s cut off from the rest of the championship. That way you’re up and down every 2 years.

Agree. Realistically the way to a prolonged stay in the top flight is to yo yo for a few years .

Of course we might stay up and first time of asking but it is a big ask

It’s a grin and bear it situation if we manage to get to the Prem. We would take a fair few hammerings and most likely come straight back down. I’ve heard people say we’re better off where we are-so on that basis shall we just morph into a Preston and languish in bottom to mid-table in the Championship year in year out? I love the Championship as much as the next man, but if that’s the case then we might aswell just call it a day fold the club if we’ve got no aspirations.

I have been asked the question loads by friends who are fans of other teams.

My response has been-

Yes but only to be more competitive in the championship (with the parachute payments) but also to visit the grounds that I haven’t been to in 25 years!
Be interested to see Frank deal tactically in the prem too.

The only thing I wouldn’t look forward to is the constant drivel from the negative bunch who for some reason would be expecting us to be challenging for the top four if we did go up.
