They're still rivals

I said Ill let you enjoy your rivalry with them now we're 2 divisions apart. I'm going to really enjoy playing Villa again.

So here's the two distances. Both miles and time are less for Villa Park

Forest are on the door step of Notts County but their main rival is Forest.

Last comment on this as its getting stupid. I see it as Leicester as 2 of my brothers are Leicester supporters. Leicester do not see us as their local rivals but when we play they do. Villa was always a favourite of mine. Local and a good laugh. They don't see us as their local rivals but it's going to be great this season.

I love the bit near the end where he says, and i'm paraphrasing, if they remain the Championship they may not be fucked but if they head down to League One they are completely fucked I think it was assumed when this video was made that they probably would still just about stay up, but oooooohhhhh dear!!!

That is my point. They don't play each other so a local rivalry would be silly. They will still enjoy watching each other struggle and lose though.

You're speaking for the whole of Leicester there.
I'm literally sat 4 feet away from a Leicester supporter who sees us as their main rivals. Plenty of them feel the same.
Your brothers don't, good for them.

Forest and Derby have spent plenty of seasons in different leagues, they still see each other as main rivals.

Same with Stoke and Port vale, and they hardly ever play.

Villa , Blues dont play each other
Sunderland, Newcastle didn't play each other for ages
Wolves, West Brom haven't played for a while
Millwall, West Ham
The list goes on , doesn't mean they're not all rivals still , clueless

So you don't think our games against Villa will have any local rivalry involved?

The games will be massive.

I never said they'll be no local rivalry. Merely their main rival is Blues and anyone saying different, which someone did which is why I got involved in this thread, is talking bollocks

Cors there's local rivalry
You said Leicester are no longer rivals as they're in a different league
Despite numerous posters pointing out to you they are you're still spouting crap

And what I said was Leicester are not our rivals next season as we're 2 divisions above them. I said our nearest local rivals next season will be Villa. This is not saying all time rivals but rivals for next season. Then I get the normal pile on.

I worked in Leicester for a short time in the early ‘90s. They’d been out of the top flight for over 5 years. I knew there was some needle between us but couldn’t believe how the place was dripping with jealousy about us. All I heard was stuff like ‘what’s the point in being in the Prem if all you do is escape relegation on the last day blah blah blah.

There was one bloke who was so wound up about Cov, he started explaining that Leicester was a more important because it was on the M1 linked directly to London whereas Cov was not. Loads more stuff like this, too numerous to recount but I quickly realised I couldn’t be arsed to talk football with them but this stuff kept on coming way after I stopped biting.

Suffice to say that I call bullshit the second that I hear people say they don’t care about us.

Some definite rumbles that attracted lads that weren't often involved with the football, Villa would be classed the same for me it's period/league dependant,if they were both in a league with us at the same it would be the villains for me

Villa are not our rivals at all.

A lot of a certain generation hate them because they were the closest club in the league and they kept beating us at every opportunity. That hate isn't reciprocated in a way that would generate a rivalry. Most of the Villa fans I know have a bit of a chuckle at our dislike of them.

Villa's rivals are Blues and second WBA. The Hawthornes is only a few miles from Villa park.

Can echo this. All the Villa fans I know think it’s hilarious how much some of our fans hate them as they don’t care about us at all. My Villa supporting mate in his early thirties had no idea we considered them rivals until he went to Uni in Cov.

I mean there is some needle - they have a 32 page thread on us since 2012, following this - earlier this season the Birmingham Mail had an article about how Villa don’t care about us.

we’re not their main rivals by a long shot, but there was definitely needle there whilst we were the only 2 midland sides in the prem

Did they ever seriously wish us to go under or seize to exist? Its a rivalry and just as they had their turn to take the piss its now ours I for one dont want them to go under and would love them so suffer the same way we had

To answer everyone's points, having worked for 30 years amongst Leicester City fans I can quite assure you that some of them wanted the worst to happen to us, ie go bust.

Your only mate caught the fag end of Cov v Villa being the top flights only real Midlands derby for a sustained period of time, in fairness

One of my old bosses from a former job is approaching 50 and never failed to remind me he was 'At the game that sent you down'

It will mean more to our older fans and I am sure amongst some of their older fans it will be reciprocated, probably not to the same extent on their end admittedly

I have never seen us play them, I can't say I even hate them that much, the big one for me has and always will be Leicester but for my dad it is Villa and for his dad who was supporting us in the 60s and early 70s it was Wolves

My only gripe with Villa is, as someone who has lived in Tamworth most of his life (Big AVFC territory) will be if they turn us over next season I will have people who I have not even spoke to or thought about since I left school messaging me to take the piss

‘My only mate’ come on, I’m not a complete billy no mates

but in fairness his Dad is a big Villa fan too and also didn’t/doesn’t care about us. I’m sure there will be some needle when we play them next season but I imagine the seesaw will be heavily weighted in our direction in terms of importance of the game.

Can’t say I’m looking forward to it as I know my mate will be unbearable if they beat us.

They are in a much worse position than we were when we ended up with SISU. They are rotten from top to bottom. They are worse than skint.

Even their own supporters are very aware that these problems could be the end of their club.
