In the instance of an FA Cup final between Villa and Blues, I would want Villa to win and wouldn't even think twice about feeling that way either

Dunno about anyone else
Yes me too.

My order of preference would be
Villa
Wolves or Birmingham(pre USA moneybags takeover) - same level really
Walsall
WBA

Have to admit that rivalries have never bothered me, even in the 80s when I was at a age where it seemed to bother all my mates.

Had a glimpse of the Leicester forum and, wow, the bitterness on there is palpable. They really are an entitled bunch. I get that they have achieved tons in the last decade, certainly compared to us...FA Cup Win, PL Champs, Euro semis, top five finishes, etc but they are where they are. They cannot just keep bringing those up as a reason why they SHOULD be in the Premier League or why they SHOULD be beating teams like little old Cov. Football and the world doesn't work like that. Now is all that matters. Don't see many fans of The Wanderers bragging about winning the FA Cup five times from 1871.
It's also weird when you consider that most of them will be long-term supporters, and that the club they are supporting now is the same as the one that caught their imagination in the first place; a medium-sized provincial club that generally bounces between the top two divisions.

I get they are pissed off at the massive missed opportunity, but remember who you are, yeah?

That's the game, think it was 84.
Lost 5-1 at Filbert St if I remember correctly

Yes, bloody nightmare. Not just because of the result. In those days you could park basically next to the ground and when we came out we could literally see the car in the street where we'd parked it, but the police wouldn't let us go through their line and sent us on a massive detour.

I once asked BG on Twitter if that actually happened and I hadn't dreamt him running on the pitch. He said it was true and just lost it!

Exactly. I genuinely don't have an issue with their success over the last ten years. Almost definitely something that we will never accomplish, but hey, move on. Be thankful it happened. They are very lucky.

In fairness, a few of their older lot recognise that at it's peak Villa v Coventry was the only Midlands Derby that was almost exclusively played in the top flight for a long time - Blues, WBA and Wolves spent a lot of our time in the top flight on their arses and people forget that was the case

They also never fail to mention about 'How I was there that day we relegated you' - Even though we could have won that day and we'd have still been relegated
I was there during that era when we were the only West Midland teams in the top flight for years. They literally didn't regard us as a rival in any shape or form.

They mention about relegating us like I would to, say, an Everton fan if we'd relegated them in 98 at Goodison. Doesn't make it a rivalry.

Now you’re going to go up, are you going to
not focus on us anymore, and see Villa as the local rivalry now?

Just asking for a friend as I shall miss the humour and the love ❤️ ⚽️🦊

When you’re not in the league anymore, will you focus more on Coalville Town than us?

I won’t miss it.

My dad would have said wolves were out rivals - he started going from the 60s.
I started going in the 80s and I would have said our biggest rivals were villa (though they didn't care about us). Maybe because we played (and lost) so many times to them, nicking players like boetang and Dublin....
Leicester or forest were local rivals to me, but I never counted them as important as beating villa.

Anyone remember Filbert Street, absolute shit hole, same level as Kenilworth Road.

Leicester are absolute tinpot, horrible club and totally irrelevant.

Cheated their way to a title (God knows how).

Villa who i dislike just as much, at least are a proper football club with history

Frankly it's impossible to mention the two in the same sentence.

I quite like Villa. Im 35 so I saw the tail end of the prem years as a young lad and remember animosity but I and many others since have developed a hatred for Leicester and Blues a lot more than Villa.

Cant stand either of them, especially Blues, neanderthal fans, slum of a stadium and area and they arent even the biggest club in their own city.

Villa fans genuinely dont care about us, and tbh I dont them. Great stadium, proper fans, history etc. Dont get me wrong though I do think if we go up it will be very tasty at the CBS and Villa park purely from the older brigade wanting to roll back the years

Last time I was at villa park, was walking out after being relegated......so theres some unfinished business!!!

Your right, theres a whole generation of 25 years now who have never seen us play them, lets hope that changes next year.....I mean if we did go up, the fixture computer has perfect chance to create some story with it being villa away first game.

My dislike is more for Leicester and other clubs generally now!

For me Villa has always been our rivalry. I started watching City mid eighties and Villa and ourselves spent so long together in the top flight. The games at Highfield Road just seem to resonate on a higher level. For those who were there, I don’t think I can remember a louder sound than when Mickey Quinn got his brace on Boxing Day. Also fondly remember Drinkell scoring with his first touch and the Robbie show, of course.

Don't worry, you will always be disliked.

Geography has denied us a real derby unless Nuneaton or Beduth improve their current run of form. You can get to the centre of Birmingham in 20 minutes by fast train. It takes an hour to Leicester on the mickey mouse railway link. You can drive to Digbeth fairly quickly, to Leicester fine until the Narborough Rd., then stuck for ever.
Villa have Birmingham, Wolves have West Brom and Leicester have Derby and Forest.
Because Villa are the most successful West Midlands team, everybody sings Shit on the Villa.
If we had a bigger ground, I believe we currently would be the second best supported team in the whole Midlands. Unlike the late 60s, when we were the best supported team for the whole Midlands.

Late 60's/early 70's Wolves were always the deadly rivals, both of us going up together and Villa were in the old 2nd division and 3rd for a while ( Championship and L1 now for the young 'uns) Villa and Lesta were not worth worrying about at the time

We played Leicester throughout the 70s bar 2 seasons, plenty of stories of them trying to take the West End, their midland red buses getting smashed up, fights on Gosford Green, depends who you talk to i guess

No guarantee Cov will go up. We're in a very good position but the Blades were on the same number of points as us at this stage and look where they are now. We need to focus on a tough game against Millwall who are having a good season.

I was too young for the 87 cup final but my neighbour who was a Villa fan went to Wembley supporting Cov on the day and gave me the ticket he'd kept hold off a few years ago before he passed away and I can't bring myself to dislike them anymore.

It's been great having games against Leicester and Birmingham City back and I really hate losing games to either of you as much as you do.

I get that I might be in a minority but I'd still much rather watch an FA Cup Final with Villa, Blues, Baggies, Wolves, Leicester, Derby or Forest in it than the same old teams that regularly win it and aren't even that fussed about getting there or winning it. They bore the life outta me.

Everyone goes on about the 84/85 game at HR and the fighting on the pitch, but the return game at Filbert St was fucking wild.
Yes… I’m still pissed off as I lost my aquascutum scarf in the carnage after the game that day. Vintage scarf I could of put over my lap at the age I am now 😎 or sold for £90 😂

My best mate at work is a season ticket holder at the villa and he reckons there cheering us on to go up, so we can play each other again just like the good old days.
My old man hates villa, but I'm not that bothered but think if we do go up it might change in banter terms.
Fuck Leicester and fuck the Brummies.

Leicester were absolutely a rival when I started watching (mid 70s) and there were plenty of midlands teams around in Div 1 then. I don’t remember any other team we disliked more, though it was Wolves before that in the 60s. Then it became Villa as for a long time that was the only local derby on offer. Now it’s Leicester again. So rivalries depend a bit on who is available.

Villa pull a lot of support from towns like Nuneaton, Leamington etc and they always disliked City, but their brummie support wasn't too bothered.

Never had an issue with Villa and I lived & worked amongst them in late 80s/early 90s. Villa Park is a fantastic ground & I have many memories of getting beaten there but I was also at the win in the FA Cup. If we get promoted I will be very jealous of our fans who get tickets to go to VP.

I'm sure a lot of Villa fans want us promoted and we'd probably be the same. It's got to be better than the stale, Bournemouth, Brighton, Burnley, Brentford fixtures.

Absolutely this! What a shit ground. Martin O’Neil led potential signings out backwards at the stadium to be less embarrassed by the state of it.

I have to disagree completely and no idea where this has come from. I have no real memory of ever feeling much after beating Leicester. Villa totally was our rival and accept the same wasn't felt by Villa fans to anywhere near the same extent.
As you said, Wolves are the real enemy to anybody who got chased around Molineux in the 60’s!! I’m now too old to hate anybody…..

Think the question has been answered-Wolves-Villa-Leicester currently making the podium. Spin the wheel at your leisure and pick one. The answer in reality is nobody.
