Yea I agree, Thorn is stubborn with his persistence in the diamond. We need to be able to adapt and play a variety of formations, besides I think Kightley would have fitted into the diamond anyway.anyone else also concerned not only about not getting Kightly or someone else but the excuse that players must be able to play the diamond formation?
There have been flashes in the season so far where that formation has worked but generally the players we have havent looked convincing and the formation looked lightweight. Surely a decent player would be adaptable to some degree. The sort of player that will make that system work, that will have the energy and strength is likely to be at a decent club already or too expensive.
Surely we require some quality, some endeavour, some speed in all four midfield positions ? We are pretty exposed in the midfield. Positions generally covered by our more experienced players, who have under performed. Wouldnt or couldnt Kightly add something positive to that ?
I think there are two factors at work, firstly there is no money being released to realistic compete for signings but I am beginning to wonder if AT knows who he wants and how to make his chosen formation work. We need to be more robust, harder to beat, and the last few games I just do not see it
Am rapidly losing the faith I had remaining not just off but on the field. Time for my week away I think, which in itself is worrying as last time i went away the bid collapsed, Turner was sold, Juke nearly went, and we nearly signed a donkey !!!!!!
Worrying times !!!am crossing my fingers that I come back to better news

Apart from the fact that in our last couple of games we have gone with a narrow 3 across the middle....
In Thorns opinion Kightley would not fit in, plus it will take him approximately 6 or 7 games to get match fit..... er no thanks.

M+D ,If thorn has come out and said this ,thats the question, personally i doubt it ,i doubt AT had anything to do with the speculation regarding this player, just like every utterance from Sisu ,its consistent, consistant bullshit.for what its worth to me its a sign of tension building between manager /board that lead to Deluded uttering anything.or just more poor journalism fromCT,why don't they do something useful and get onto the football league for answers to our ownership ,like us lot have .
I'm inclined to agree with the idea that the team stick to a formation and get used to it. I'm not sure we're good enough to be flexible to be honest. Maybe the best we can hope for is some sort of consistency.
Whether or not that's the real reason for players not coming in is another matter...
I didn't go to the Barnsley game but the two games before that in Reading and Blackpool we played the diamond to begin with, against Reading we played it for the whole game and against Blackpool we changed it pretty early on which was signs we hadn't prepared properly.Apart from the fact that in our last couple of games we have gone with a narrow 3 across the middle....

The diamond only works if we are on top and dominating possession. Unfortunately we don't have players to do that. That means when we have less possession the opponents have so much space on the wings like at ipswich. That leaves our fullbacks exposed and in turn stops them going forward. At that point thorn needs to switch to 442. But we don't have any out and out wingers and haven't done for quite some time.
We basically could not afford kightly is my guess, cos you would have to be an idiot to turn him down.
Ginnetta ,the most inventive, penetrating football we've played this season ,was second half against Derby +Blackpool, against derby the distribution changed with the introduction of Dunn,we played our football much further forward ,it involved plenty of retention ,but we were more direct,Blackpool was similar in that we played predominantly in their half ,at a much higher tempo .The main threat in our team is Juke and the more he has the ball the better we are, rolling it around sideways and backwards with poor Beckhamesque crosses is'nt to his strength, but we should be able to mix it up ,the fact we did in those two games showed it .in huckerby's piece in the CT today he stresses it was one of the strengths, that they wer'nt one dimensional
I know we are beggars and can't be choosers, but all the same..We need a loan player...we'll be lucky to get one..we play without wingers...so we make our only loan signing a winger:facepalm:
So really, we're worse than beggars..we're like a bald beggar who had just been offered a hair-dryer. Only it's worse than that, as we probably won't even get this quality player who doesn't fit into our system...we are a homeless bald beggar who has just been offered a hair-dryer, but only if we can provide a postage address for it to be delivered to.
Hes gone to Watford now anyway!
In short NLHWC, no unless its a really desperate deal we manage to put together on deadline day, and get a player no one wants
When he is match fit he will be coming to us
