If you say so, Boris.

It’s a completely ridiculous statement and a stupid thing to say. Do we have the money to go out and buy loads of seasoned , experienced players? Do you think we have the option of waiting until a player’s value has increased before trying to buy him? This is all nonsense. The way we have to find players, every single one of them is a calculated risk- the only exception being Godden where we have the right to expect a good return on £734k.

Pick them up when they are free agents Marosi and Max being two examples have experience playing and living in the UK compared to jobello and kastaneer

I’m pretty sure it’s got nothing to do with Kastaneer ‘settling in’. I think it’s just that he’s not very good at football...whether he’s at home or abroad.

It’s because some people will use it to find fault with Robins.

What was it the minute we signed him that told you he was a dud?

Kevin Malaga is currently playing in the French third division.
He has scored 1 goal in 71 appearances.
Before that he was in the French 4th and 5th divisions, so he is working his way up

Why? There are many more examples of players easily adapting to a new country than failing.

If they struggle for footballing reasons that's different, but not many genuinely struggle because they can't adapt to a different country, especially as Kastaneer is Dutch and I believe has good English.

Marko Maroši went to Burnley College. He’s been in the UK for a long time and has only played professional football in England. Have you heard his deceptively northern accent?

Its not exactly picking at the finer points. Badlan has scouted Kastaneer since his U17 days and has only just found out that he lacks the fitness capabilities to play football even at U23 level. If anything I think that’s a great topic for discussion, as that in itself is bizarre.

No manager has a 100% success rate with signings
in fact 50% is probably a good achievement - even consider some of the bums that Alex Ferguson signed

The fact that we are even discussing one bad signing, shows what a great squad we have assembled

There's always going to be an element of luck. Who would have thought that Brown and Ogogo wouldn't have worked out?

I've read (and re-read) a number of his books, but didn't realise that the village (Montecchio ) was a made up place (Italian Neighbors). Haven't been over for a couple of years, but it is on my bucket list to go and visit the place. Sick Boy - can you confirm the real name of the village (where he lived in via Columbare?)
Thanks - in advance !!

Edit: Coincidentally just realised that beneath my winter layers, I'm wearing my Hellas t shirt, purchased in a Veronese market about 3/4 years ago!

He and the club got one wrong. That's it. Doesn't need an autopsy. Picking the bones out of a single signing when we're in a title race and an FA cup run is odd.

It's a football forum, we talk about all aspects of the club good and bad.

Would you rather the forum was

Poster 1: It's good we're doing well
Poster 2: I agree
Poster 3: In the cup too
Poster 1: Yes
Poster 2: I agree

Talk about this player has spilled over two threads. That's more than I've seen anyone talking about a player that's in good form, or a signing that's been successful over the same period. That imbalance is what seems odd to me - folks are keen to pick apart a mistake made by the club when we're in the position we are with so much going right.

Funny then that you haven't viewed the match thread, that's where everyone discusses who is best to be in the squad, what our best lineup is, which tactics work best.

This is good....you're adding to the whole 'experience' of the forum, congrats!

As a side note, I agree that we do harp on re. the 'not so talented' as opposed to 'the talented' type of player.

Look at that, I've now (sadly) added to the discussion.

Jobello was hardly ripping up trees either was he? Equally on that topic why was Badlan gushing over a player that had previously suffered 2 or 3 ACL's? Don't you think that brings into question his ability to scout players abroad?

So please tell me why shouldn't I critique that and why it is odd?

I've read it, still think the balance is off. Folks seem a bit too keen to find something to be critical about. A thread re: the U23s was dominated by chat about Kasta, then a whole thread dedicated to him as well. That's more attention than individual players signed by Robins got when they restricted a decent home side to one threatening shot on goal in the whole second half in a massive league game. I've said what I wanted to say on the subject so I'll leave you to it.

But then you get all flustered & irritable when people do talk and not just blithely agree. And some (mentioning no names) like to hone in on the bad like a laser beam & ignore the good..

You are right. The way they talk- "I was saying this all along", "I knew at the time", "I'm not surprised" etc, they have themselves down as football geniuses and just love to try and take the shine off anything with some vague, obscure negative point or other, which of course they "knew all along" (but didn't say anything weirdly enough).

Which club took a risk "bringing him over to the UK"? Wigan bought him from Barnoldswick Town, he's never played league football outside England- what are you on about saying he 'settled'- settled at Wigan? Nonsense.
