Unfortunately we are now a division 3 club
We have to sign the best of division 4 and the conference. To develop new and exciting talent that maybe better than our own youth

Yeah it started when we signed Stuart Pearce from Wealdstone. I mean signing players from non league the very thought tut!

Agree with the sentiment, disgraceful!
We actually started on this shameful path much earlier than that when we signed a striker from Ilkeston.

John Tudor you mean ? Now there was a player, signed by JH from what was then proper non-league more or less put straight into first team and was soon a major player in a top team on its way to the top division, no getting match fit bollox, no playing a dozen reserve games first or getting 5 minutes here and there but then we are talking a proper manager.

Yep he`s the one. He went on later to form a potent strike force with Malcolm McDonald (Super Mac) at Newcastle.

Not sure if he played the in the u23 game last night against Leeds?

McBean played but didn't score.

Jordan Pontecelli scored. Hot prospect.

I don't think they could play as it was a league game and not a friendly and they are still classed as trialists.

Let's face it, the CT has been totally quiet on Smith, as well as Ojala and McBean so the only way we're going to find out is by waiting and seeing!

Mowbray has confirmed neither Ojala nor Smith will be taken on

Shit, someone like Ojala could have been usefull.

We were crying out for defenders, we've signed one centre back (and Page) and now we're turning players away?

There is no way a player of that standard is not good enough for us. Without being over the top, something doesn't feel right...

He said he was coming back from injury.

It is all well and good saying things dont feel right, but we just signed a decent defender for a fee.

Sounds like this could have been another Reda situation, I think TM has learnt his lesson

What he's essentially said is that we signed Turnbull instead. So while that might have been for a fee, when everyone agreed we needed at least two centre backs, we've essentially blown the budget on one instead.

Yes, we've got DKE and Haynes, as wing backs, but are they really promotion material?

Why would you turn down a player like that? The injury is smoke and mirrors, and excused by his further comment that we signed someone else instead (Turnbull) IMO.

If we sold Vincelot, that money went on Turnbull, what about what else was left in the pot after other outgoings? I don't think the budget is comparable to last season most likely, but we will wait and see until the end of the transfer window.

Referring to DKE makes me nervous. He's a kid, not ready to be a regular starter.

He's also very small. If he plays wing back I can see teams targeting balls over his head and down the channels.

He's quick, but he lacks a bit of physical strength and muscle.

Bit of a concern.

It's annoying because it feels like TM has been told "we haven't got much money so if you can't sign the players you want within our budget, you'll just have to pick kids". Depressing that we are having to rely on lads under 21 to pad out our first team squad.

Yes but we are in League 1. So if they are any good with any chance of making it we should be able to blood them at this level. It would be much harder to expect them to step up if we were in the Premier League or Championship. Your youth has to be part of your squad at this level. This is when Stevenson, Lawton, Finch, G Thomas, DKE, Harries, Haynes find out whether they are good enough and get the opportunity to prove they are.

Do you mean the same as every other football club?

I just think it's too soon. Our average age must be 23 in any given XI this season. I'd be a lot happier if we had a squad where the average age of our team would be more like 27/28, with pros in their prime not just kids starting out in the game (and as you say, we don't know if they'll make it yet, even).

See above - there's one thing picking young players, but we're picking our development squad when we should be signing proven pros in the 25-30 age range. I'm sure other clubs don't have this. We mustn't pick teenagers, pick players in the prime and drip the kids in gradaully, not throw them in to sink or swim.

Looking back, i was dead right last August about us packing the team with untried kids.....didn't work out too well did it?
