I don’t think we’re spending this kind of money on what is clearly a project signing unless we’re already satisfied with the current first team squad, or if there’s still the promise of more transfer funds to come.I don’t think anyone was calling for a third winger.
If the fee was €5 million euros, that means we’ve spent £4.3 million on this deal. Surely if true (based on the report tagged in the post), with our limited funds compared to the likes of brum and Ipswich, there’s a better ways to spend our money.
Well we needed another player that could play 10 anyway imo .. esse can play there , sakamoto goes missing in games and we cant rely on him from now until may to be on it every weekI agree with all of that. But I would still be a little confused at the signing, after we signed Esse.
Is this lad going to sit and wait until the summer. Or is Esse and Tats now going to have less minutes?
Correct, but we can compare Esse 24/25 to Sakamoto where we scored the same amount of goalsEsse has had a great start but you can’t judge him against Tats after 3 games.
It really isn’t, your first paragraph is full of sweeping statements. His best area is ‘aerial duels’ and it’s slightly better than average. To give credit where it’s due, his xA has been consistently strong but that’s it really. One of the more ridiculous posts on here recently.
Tats works tirelessly for the team covering a lot defensively, something Esse won't be doing, and has improved the physical side of his game. We've often seen him change a game by skill and composure and doing something different. Comparing him to JDS is madness.
Esse has obviously been given a more free attacking role including being given license to get in the box. Tats is told to stay out wide, get crosses in and cover MVE.
Btw Frank made it clear Tats has been effected by illness for quite a while recently, nevermind his serious injury.
Exactly this. Failure to get promoted now would lie at lampards door.If we sign a midfielder before the end of the window i think the squad is in a good enough place to be getting over the line and any failure to do so would lie at the door of the head coach .
If wed have signed a midfielder first and this lad after im sure people would be fine with it .
Is that in Euro'sWhere I’ve looked says 5 ft 7

Someone will move to LW imo and think it might be Sakamoto.I agree with all of that. But I would still be a little confused at the signing, after we signed Esse.

Eh ?Someone will move to LW imo and think it might be Sakamoto.
NonsenseSomeone will move to LW imo and think it might be Sakamoto.

It’s more logical than sitting a £4+ million signing on the bench behind 2 other RWs.Eh ?
I would be extremely surprised if that were the caseIt’s more logical than sitting a £4+ million signing on the bench behind 2 other RWs.
Meanwhile, Minny is only a young player so there’s probably more a higher likelihood of Esse/Markelo/Sakamoto pushing for the LW behind EMC.
Given that Esse and Markelo’s game is taking players on and cutting in onto their left foot from the right side, they’re probably not going to moved. Whereas Sakamoto’s game is optimised for crossing so it could could be a good fit at LW.
My best guess is that Yang will probably get pushed down the pecking orderSo what about EMC and Yang? That's not happening.
Seen Minny mentioned a lot above so thought id pass on a nugget
He is a decent player, looks good in training, club happy with him, Lampard just feels he needs to adjust a bit more to our system on the training pitch. Hes gone from a club who are fighting relegation and playing pretty direct stuff to a fast flowing side at the top of the league.
He will get minutes, just needs to bed in a bit

I’d be surprised if we see him this season, it’s a 4.5 year contract for a reason
Really? We have spent a significant fee on him?I’d be surprised if we see him this season, it’s a 4.5 year contract for a reason
Yeah you could take glass half full or empty to be honest. I just think with our resources, we don’t have the luxury of spending that money in one of the positions we are strongest. Funnily enough if someone leaves I suddenly understand it slot more.Which I suppose you can take 2 ways- we either have prioritised this transfer over any others ( and/or someone is moving out) and now won’t be getting anyone else OR we have funds to afford this move plus others and a really going for it.
hahahahahI don't know how true this story is but I heard it from a few people, but when we signed Marcel Hillsner our target was another lad in their team who plays midfield and looks similar and that Dean Austin and his team signed the wrong player. I mention this because if it is true maybe this lad was mistakenly meant to be another.
Can’t be true. Only as Dean Austin wasn’t at the clubI don't know how true this story is but I heard it from a few people, but when we signed Marcel Hillsner our target was another lad in their team who plays midfield and looks similar and that Dean Austin and his team signed the wrong player. What’s your view of what will happen?I would be extremely surprised if that were the case
1 player. I don’t know why there’s so much snobbery towards the Swiss league, EMC came from L1, Minny from the K-League and Tats came from a team relegated from the Belgian league. Why would the top team in the Championship move multiple players around and out of position to slot in a 23 year old winger from the Swiss leagues?
and marcel didnt look similarCan’t be true. Only as Dean Austin wasn’t at the club
I'm really unsure to be honest! Thats why this signing has got a few stumped. What’s your view of what will happen?
A lot of people view Sakamoto as untouchable. Lampard and his staff will see the numbers we all have access to and the picture is that we need ‘more’.
If Lampard is happy with our winger options,
why else we’d go out and sign another one? Either Lampard isn’t 100% happy with what Minny/Sakamoto brings. To be complementary of Sakamoto, I believe he could really switch positions with minimal fuss, be it AM, LW or even WB where he played a lot before he joined us.

Underlying data for Markelo is impressive and his dribbling in particular stands out amongst elite players in Europe.
Was stark (and frustrating) on monday that minny gave the ball away a few times trying to force the issue on the wing.My best guess is that Yang will probably get pushed down the pecking order
If he needs time to bed in, perhaps a judgement has been made to sign a player (Markelo) that they feel will come in straight away.
My apologise to Dean, but it was a story about our scouting team at that time. Can’t be true. Only as Dean Austin wasn’t at the club
Think bassette fell out with lampard in fairness .. i agree with brau and woolfenden , but again as with robins he signed them off
I’d be surprised if we see him this season, it’s a 4.5 year contract for a reason
I agree , but im just going off what king said in his interview about the manager being involvedJust curious what that means. Maybe I’m over indexing on Robins glib comments when we signed Dovin and the fact I really don’t agree with the whole recruitment separate from team management thing.
Yeah hes second from the right front rowJust to appease you this is the photo. Marcel is bottom right, or is he?

We’re past that? We’ve not been promoted yet…I really hope that's the case and not just a "follow the model" signing, where it's not someone to actually get us over the line but someone we hope to flip a profit on in a couple of years. We are currently, past that bit.
