Frank and the coaching staff must have some trust in him to put him on in the circumstances. Thought he kept his shape well and did what he was brought on to do.

I agree. I thought he was there to be on the bench but with the intention of just acclimatising him to the atmosphere. It was a high intensity game with a lot at stake. A difficult game for a sub to impact even if they had 20 minutes. Why we are putting the lad Uber the microscope for a 5 minut appearance I will never know. Its not like he made a catastrophic mistake.

In this thread talking about him being on loan next season and won’t be ready for a while and how he must have been over excited and the like. He cost more than the majority of the squad and is our most expensive signing under Lampard. Surely he’ll go in asap.

He has gone in asap, it seems to be fans' perception only that he's a signing for some undefined future point. It is nothing to do with reality.

Yeah that’s what I think. When he’s fit he’ll be fighting for a starting spot. There’s people in the WBA thread saying he’ll drop off the bench when BTA is back. Just don’t get where this has come from we aren’t a club that drops £4.5m on a player who isn’t at the level.

He certainly did drop into the LWB position at times - there’s one passage of play whe Boro are in possession where he is alongside Dasilva in a 5.

Yes he got the cross wrong but when he was actually running with the ball he was actually looking at the defenders, rather than say Raphael who used to run with his head down looking at the ball.

who is?
The context is this:
We sign a young 23 year old, who admittedly has not played recently. But has joined us and has moved countries and is stepping up to a new level and barely had time to unpack his bags. He is hopefully a long term investment.

He makes his debut with 5 minutes to go in our biggest game of the season so far. You can’t judge him on that. But here you are trying to undermine the lad because you dont agree with us signing him. 5 minutes - give him a chance for god sake.

Have you ever moved work to a new area where you know no one. I have it is not easy and it can take longer to settle, than you, me or most people can imagine. It’s okay when you are at work but your downtime can be very lonely, boring and depressing.

Your argument is saying a 23 year old should hit the ground running and have the life experiences to cope with it.

Danny Murphy is on record as saying aged thirty after over 170 appearances for Liverpool, a January move to Charlton was extremely difficult. Living in a hotel for months away from family. Players are people not fucking robots on a spreadsheet.

Are you OK? I’ve literally posted in this thread you can’t judge him on yesterday.

I’m simply saying I expect him to challenge for a first team place when up to speed. You’ve gone off the deep end as per.

To be honest I didn’t know what to expect. I don’t like judging players one game good or bad. But he does look good Onyeka. Okay he has the reputation of breaking up play, but he looks like he can pass too and sees opportunities quickly.

It’s is still context to your disparaging “talking like he is an eighteen year old”. I gave an example of an experienced 30 year old Premier League player. It’s not going off the deep end it is life and reality. Fans calling our team bottlers and lacking in motivation after a ten point lead was eroded - when their were numerous reasons why form fell short (not bottling it or through lack of motivation just circumstances). Stick by the players especially the ones just through the door

Im purely talking about how fans are talking about him. Nothing to do with him as a player. You’ve gone off wrote War and Peace about how I need to give him time.

Tbf, War and Peace is about familial relationships in Tsarist Russia and how they're affected by the Napoleonic wars, and I bet it would be less revered if it were about you needing to give a new signing more time.

Did very very well, was getting sucked in to the middle standing next to 2 of his own players at times really needs to work on his positioning.

Great pace. Liked the way he put in crosses early, before the defenders could properly set.

Definitely looks like an option we could use from the bench. Need to see him against a more challenging opponent, but can only play what's in front of you and he looked good.

First two crosses were dangerous, about 2 foot off the grouch really difficult to defend rather than at head height for a defender to head.

Markelo looked like a bright spark today when he came on, fair play to him! There’s a reason we spent £5m on him.
