so to make sure I'm keeping up, the country which is driving the narrative of mainstream politics in the West having huge chunks of it's policy dictated by religious nutjobs is fine and we should follow their lead, but a mosque excludes young females from a fun run and that's a legitimate basis for having a(nother) casual Islam bashing sesh and a load of think pieces on integration? F*cking hell.

The US doesn’t drive uk laws on discrimination the last time I looked.

Not irrelevant at all.

Perfectly relevant because I think all religion is batshit crazy.

It’s entirely irrelevant as its views that don’t then get used to defy the law.

So would you be ok with catholics banning gay people from a run?

Nope. Not at all. Why would you think that? I have a big problem with this mosque not allowing women to run. Why wouldn't I have a problem if it was Catholics?

Anyway, there is relevance to what Dom said. That was my response to his comment about Islam

There's mad stuff in the Bible, yet some within Christianity believe every single word in the Bible is the word of God

It's either the word of God, or it's not. And it's my position that the Bible was written for men, by men and the Quran, the same.

But it is going forward. What I am saying is that fundamentalist Christians want to put the same sort of thing in place in the US and women would not be allowed to run there either.

There is a relevance to be found.

The point I am making is there are problems within Islam and within Christianity.

Anyway, I am not going to argue the point

Hasn't everyone on here said that it was wrong for mosque to stop women and females over the age of 12 from running?

So I'm late to to the party, but from a brief catch up ... some are saying Islam is full of cunts and the counter argument to it is 'yeah but Christianity is also full of cunts'?

Ok, nothing for me here, back to the Red Zone!

But haven't you contradicted yourself there?

That there are parts within Islam that is just crazy.

Agree.

But before that you said the Islamic faith is backwards.

Said many a time, I know and have known some lovely Muslim people.

There is a problem within Islam, but let's not make sweeping "Islam is backwards" statements.

And no-one was trying to excuse it in saying it was just one mosque. For me, I was relieved that it was just one mosque. We have had problems with individual mosques before haven't we and where they were teaching hatred.

We just have to stop tarring them all with the same brush.

"Islam is backwards" does not help.
But Islam is backwards. It's just that the majority of Muslims dont live together it by the law.

The same could be said of Christianity, a religion that is dead against same sex relationships. However, the vast majority of Christians dont believe the same thing. Doesn't make the religion anymore right or wrong, though? It's still backwards for the time. Are the people with bigoted views wrong for following what they believe to be true by their religion wrong? Or is it the outdated amd backwards religion thats wrong for teaching them views in the first place?

It is interesting how you offer zero opinion yourself on the subject matter at all but like a certain other person try and deflect from it.

I fully agree. The yanks are fucking nuts for continuing to follow a nearly 300 year old constitution that doesnt hold up any more in the modern world. The rest of the world is fucking nuts for still following 1000 year old religions that definitely dont stand up to the modern world!

No it’s not really. It’s the fact that discrimination against women occurs and as no one wants to offend Islam there is pussy footing around and no condemnation.

Remember when there were death threats against a teacher for drawing Mohammed and his life was ruined posters on here said the tradition of not drawing him should be respected

Obviously it's fucking ridiculous that women can't join in, I don't think you'll find anyone here that says otherwise.

But I think your article saying we're heading for sharia law is just silly.

Yeah, but the party currently on course to be in power next time out is copying the current US playbook verbatim and that scares me a f*ckload more than a daft mosque preventing girls from doing a fun run.

and spelling it out to make the relevance clear, that playbook is massively influenced by Christian mentalists that want control over women's bodies and efforts at correcting centuries of racism rolled back etc.

Honestly if you believe that there’s no point in engaging. It’s funny you laugh at Dom but you are just using word salad to try and not argue the point.

It’s Flat Earth nonsense to suggest the UK will be like bible bashing Deep South states in 4 years time.

and it's arguing in bad faith to stretch my point to an extreme and be dismissive. I'm saying that the creep of policies and agendas from US politics into the widespread discourse here scares me more than things like this fun run sh*t. It scares me because of the people behind it, funding it etc.

I think it's mad that people are banging on about a fun run as if it's going to have an impact on their lives now or in the future when Reform seems to be ideologically aligned with religious zealots that want religious dogma to shape politics and law, which would be a LOL of a double standard.

Mate, come on! I didn't say they were. Read what I write if you're gonna quote it. Trump isn't either, but he's happy to be put out front by a bunch of folks that are and do what he's told.

I bet if you'd told hardcore conservatives in 2014 that within 10 years they'd have the bloke from the Apprentice in a 2nd term, rolled back Roe vs. Wade etc. they'd think you'd dropped acid.

And I very much doubt the majority of Muslims do either. A lot, especially those in the west, probably pick and choose what they adhere to and what they don't.

There will be places, certainly in the US Bible belt and likely in other areas of Europe that are still heavily religious and whose views on keeping strictly to scripture are far closer to that of fundamentalist Muslims than to moderate or liberal Christians.
