Cool, masked goons and violent assholes that look and act like they were recruited at random and given no training in how to handle situations like this are scooping people off the street. You love to see it!

I’m curious to know how the supporters of mass deportation programs in this country would expect our own scheme to look much different.

They wouldn't, and unfortunately I'd imagine that's part of the appeal for quite a lot.

Some of the things your read about, or see videos off on social media, involving ICE are truly terrifying yet seem to get cheered on by some people.

As you say its not unreasonable to expect someone representing a government agency such as this to turn up in a uniform, unmasked, with ID.

But what we're seeing is masked goons, in some cases with nothing to identify them as ICE, literally rounding people up based on the colour of their skin.
The Trump administration has been using four criteria to see who ICE agents can stop for immigration inquiries, according to court documents. They are: (1) apparent race or ethnicity; (2) speaking Spanish or English with an accent; (3) presence at a particular location such as a carwash or day laborer pickup site; and (4) the type of work the person does.
Then once they have taken people zero information is given about what has happened to them. There are families who report that weeks later they don't even know if the person taken is still in the country.

Its amazing that in a country with so many guns nobody has shot an ICE agent while being taken. After all when you're got someone in plain clothes jumping out of an unidentified vehicle grabbing people off the street surely it wouldn't' be hard to claim self defence?

Yes, isn’t the whole point of the second amendment to protect the public from government tyranny?

Wouldn’t surprise me if this is what starmer thinks he can do to keep them out when it’s completely the wrong approach
Reform are the best at whipping up anti democratic authoritarian policies Labour should be better than that

and I think it’s likely to be worse unless you are rich and have property especially if you are unwell

I personally think there’s a gap between those who ostensibly support mass deportations, and those who fully appreciate the reality of how you achieve that.

Cards on the radio doesn't sound exciting, but I've listened to boxing and darts which are both pretty good, so I'll give it a go

never heard of this chap before but would be interested to know the wider context of what he's saying and how much truth there is in it.

This is NOT trying to stir up trouble on any level

THIS is what makes me proud to be British.

Freedom of Folkestone Parade

Hundreds of Gurkhas here. A celebration and recognition of all that they have done for us (Kent is where so many Nepalese settled)

Lovely ceremony and now they are marching up the promenade to the bandstand.

This is Folkestone, this is Kent, this is England.

Not one England flag to be seen anywhere. Why not?

Lots of mini Union flags, but handed out by the event organisers

Lots of Ghurkas around the Nuneaton area, a few restaurants and clubs they own. They integrate very well and have always been well liked

On the other scale you have the muslim fun run in London today where women over the age of 12 are banned. Bit sexist isn't it!

Just one mosque isn't it?

Not saying it's right at all and should rightly be questioned and challenged, but I believe it's just one single mosque

Yeah, they have integrated in many ways

Lots of Nepalese restaurants down here. I would say they do tend to keep themselves to themselves, but do always seem pleasant when you do get occasion to talk to them.

Can we keep in mind that this is an event organised by one place of worship and be critical of it without using it as a stick to beat millions of people with incl. a Mayor who probably had no clue it was happening?

If we can't, we risk coming across as a bunch of pr*cks looking for an excuse to shout about people we don't like. Folks get excluded from all sorts of stuff because of all kinds of religious practices.

e.g. women couldn't be priests or have senior roles in the church. Religions and people who are involved in running places of worship aren't likely to be the type to bend towards outside norms at breakneck pace.
