Subs tend to be left too late and/or are entirely predictable and almost seem decided in advance. So they don't affect the game positively for us. His refusal to ever sub Chaplin is now bordering on idiocy and if Chaplin is too fragile mentally to take being subbed then it says all we need to know about him, and should to MR too. It takes a brave man to accept you may have made a mistake with the transfer, but that is what MR has to be (even though he has roundly criticised Bakayoko and used him as a scapegoat pretty much since he arrived).

I don't see it as idiocy at all though. We may disagree as fans, but Chaplin has 4 goals in 5 matches. It sort of makes sense to keep him on. Even if you disagree, it's hardly idiocy is it.

i think sometimes you need to give the guy a break and take him out of the firing line. No matter what he does at the moment it isn't good enough and this is showing in his confidence

Love how all the posters who dont post on here for months all suddenly appear when we arnt playing well calling for robins to go. If we then win a couple they all crawl back in to the wood work to wait until the next poor run

He has 3 goals as the wimbledon goal hasn't been credited to him at this time.

I'm not sure about sacking him, but my patience is starting to wear very thin.

It's the same errors over and over again, with particularly Chaplin being a blatant favourite that is untouchable.

I don't buy this 'settle for mid table' either. We haven't jumped up to the Premier League. There's zero loyalty in football and building for the future almost never happens because everything is so short term.

We has momentum from the promotion and we should be using that to push on again this year. That will breed success a lot more than meandering around mid-mid-table for several seasons only to end up relegated again.

This is good enough to be top six if just we weren't so embarrassingly bad in front of goal. That's the hardest thing for me to accept.

I've seen that Wimbledon goal numerous times and they're clearly trying to build Chaplins confidence awarding him that as he definitely doesn't touch it. Of the 3 he did score one a penalty and one a free kick. We're constantly told he's a great fi usher but only 3 all season from open play and 2 of those with his head!

How much then? Did he or did he not spend more than any manager in the past 6/7 years?

I look at Portsmouth as sort of what we should be looking to do, they got promoted from league 2 in 2017.

In there first season back in league one Jackett finished 8th and now they are looking like they will go up this season, I'm sure many Portsmouth fans were frustrated they didn't get promoted last season or in the play offs but they stuck with the manager and now they look like they are going up.

Are you thick? I don't know and neither do you so therefore you can't beat a manager up about some made up transfer fees. The most pertinent transfer related fact is that he had to sell his top scorer in the summer.

Chaplin has 7 in 24 , hardly breaking records but we’ve had a lot worse .
Over a season it’s 13/14 goals and it’s his first full season really in his career .

We also need goal contributions from elsewhere from the wide and middle men and the odd defender scoring a header from corners .

It’s unfair to pin all our problems on Chaplin

At this point I’m not for him being sacked or walking away. The reintroduction of the 4231 I’m not overly happy about but that’s because it’s not my preferred system I’d like us to use where it is for MR.

We’re in limbo where we’ve not quite the players to suit both systems added with were developing kids too in a man’s game and almost competing. If we had a few ruthless players then naturally we’d be in a far better position and the camp would be happy.

Days like today/ most the season if we’re honest without that ruthless player we will eventually get picked off as we’re physically lacking and mentally too when the going gets tough trying to get back into a game.

I can kind of reason with MR today for the lack of changing the set up after going a goal down them two as the players did most things right in the first half and he’s trying to build the belief in them and each other to dig in and find character.
We’re gonna have more rough days like that if we’re sticking with and developing young players and have little physicality as a side.

3 goals from open play is what is worrying about chaplin, and two of them were tap ins.

As they say a goal is a goal , but I agree his record isn’t what I would like it to Be.

That being said the goals from elsewhere is a valid point and just as worrying , it all adds up to a toothless team

You can mire statistics all you want.

Jacob Murphy scored 10 goals when he was here with us, but people forget 7 of them came across 3 games. He was the worst player on the pitch for roughly 20 matches too.

Just because Chaplin has scored X amount doesn't really mean anything without perspective.

He should be on about 75 already with the chances he's had.

Might have been said, but McNulty came good as last season wore on, I guess MR is hoping (and hoping, fingers crossed) that the same happens with Chaplin. Don’t look like it though...

Here we go. Jacob Murphy, James Maddison and Ryan Kent < Jim OBrien’s worth ethic.

This season isn’t embarrassing, it’s what we are, a mid table league 1 team, which I would of taken at the start of the season. An embarrassment is the 16/17 season, where we were already relegated by February and had a choice of Vernam, Yakubu or Beavon upfront.

Calling for themanagers head? Stupid
It's all Chaplin's fault? Stupid

We are developing a very young and skillful side. A bit more time will certainly see them grow and improve without doubt. It's not as if they are terrible footballers (JCH,Bakyoko aside)
I sense what MR's is doing and it will pay off if we keep the nucleus of this squad together. MR's has done well in difficult circumstances and is a pretty good manager. He won't get every decision right and we may not agree with some things he tries like today's subs.

We could have an outside chance of the playoff's if we can get back some momentum. Perhaps with some fresh blood in attack to help the maligned young Chaplin. Think we must also look to be a bit more direct in our play. Rome was not built in a day but a few tweaks recognising what we may have to do to make things work consistently in this league may be needed.

So which one is it? He has either wasted that money on players that aren’t good enough/weren’t what we needed or spent it wisely but hasn’t used them in the right way. It’s got to be one of the two hasn’t it?

Yep, it could be either really. Or maybe a combination of both. Not good enough either way really.

If that’s the case it’s a big worry. FWIW I think all 4 of those strikers offer something and are worthy of a place in a L1 squad. Just not as any team’s 4 first choice strikers.

Pretty sure the same was said about Chaplin as McNulty, that he is better up front with a target man next to him. I don't think we've given him the best chance to succeed.

Very few are these days but they are the reported fees, which are rarely too far off. Either way, there has been significant investment, relative to our level, in our strikeforce.

Think he made it clear that he wasn't forced to sell him but decided to do it because of what McNulty's agent was saying. Not necessarily the wrong thing to do but he didn't have to sell him.

Not bad for a bloke of 5ft 6.

Look at Lincoln City sitting pretty on top of L2 they have had 17 different goal scorers in the league with John Akinde their top scorer with 10 goals,

Our trouble is not Chaplin not scoring it is nobody is scoring, change the man and we still don't score enough, none of them are good enough.

We were right in line and it definitely deviated. Me and my mate both immediately called it when it went in.

There was a definite deflection. It was subtle, but did happen.

We saw the ball ever so slightly change direction. Didn't know it was Chaplin at the time, mind.

I wouldn't say that the players individually aren't good enough. The strikers have clearly been disappointing, but we have some good players overall. Think the squad is maybe a little young and naïve at times and tactically we are poor.
