Hull manager shooting his mouth off to the press declaring he knows we are only prepared to spend €40m on new signings (roughly £35m)

Anyone else find this a bit bizarre? I very highly doubt we would make our transfer budget public knowledge, least of all to a rival manager - Strange

Considering we have a squad of 23 currently leaving only 2 spots - 1 being a goalkeeper, it might be net spend.

Bassette and Bidwell likely to go but reasonably cheap, If Simms doesn't sign a new contract he'll likely be gone, and we'd get a fair bit for him. I can see Woolfeden going aswell. Someone like Sheff Utd or Stoke would give us our money back on him. Can't see Brau being here either.

we spent more £40m when we sold Gyokeres and Hamer. We're bringing in 3/4x more money than we did from them

Don't tell me he's also sending spies out ffs

Of players we would sell theyd hardly generate £15/£20m between them

It's very strange and of course there is no way he knows. King must have spent over £30 million in his first summer off the back of selling Vik and Hamer? The idea we only spend £40 million with our new found Premier League riches is laughable.

Sheffield United aren't spending that, neither are Stoke realistically but Birmingham and Wrexham probably would

He’s actually trying to pay us a compliment.

“ However, we do know some information. Coventry, as the winner of the Championship last season, plans to invest around 40 million euros in reinforcements, *but they have had an expensive and strong team with which they attacked the Premier League for two years*. Ipswich is reportedly preparing around 80 million.”

Basette isn't going for less than we paid for him, he will go out on loan if a satisfactory fee can't be negotiated, his contract still has a few years to run and there is a real chance he improves in that time.

Good, let them think we have a smaller budget and we're less likely to get our pants pulled down on prices. Perhaps intentionally leaked by Doug - he's certainly been shrewd on both sides of the market to date.

as has been said, he has no clue what anyone else will spend and he is just setting the expectations for his own team when they don't spend that much

Sheffield United can easily spend 3/4m on a player. Stoke have been freed up aswell - I think the new rule suits them and the Coates family.
why doe it, it's designed to reduce outside money

I doubt he knows anything. Doug flies under the radar by his own admission, and puts emphasis on value over cost. He’s hardly going to divulge any financials outside the club, and I doubt he’d tie himself to an arbitrary figure.

It’s 85% of your income, there’s even a mechanism for your owners to put more money in.

Stoke are sponsored by Bet365 aren’t they aswell. Can easily inflate it legally
Football income and they are not going to inflate sponsorship.

Stoke were one of only 3 or 4 championship clubs to post a profit in its' accounts for 24/25 season after the Coates family invested around £100m that more than covered their £70m+ losses. They have consistently lost more than the allowed £35m over 3 seasons and yet escaped any punishment for it.

I mean, you categorically can't...
i mean they can- the training ground could get a sponsor, as could the training kits, there are rules to prevent it. But its avaialble to get around.

its only against income rather than the profit/losses.

ulitmately if the Coates family want to do it, the rules help them do so.

If you want to be wrong then crack on but the rules now in place to stop teams owned by nation states inflating their income so the Coates family has nothing on them

I mean for the protocol - Stoke can spend up to around 40m, should the Coates family wish to do so, they can easily look to pay the 3/4m for our players.

I'm aware that the rules are to stop artificially inflating sponsorship deals, but there is nothing stopping Bet365 sponsoring other areas of the club.

Their losses are irrelevent to the protocol now.

He’s clearly saying it to bait Doug to come out and say we’ll spend more and then we get absolutely done for fees

Works the other way too potentiall.

The games have started, he knows he has to beat the 2 promotion teams. So trying to get reaction with the foreign media is a good place to start. Doug didn't come down in the last rain shower and will react by sticking to the plan and working with FL to get the best players he can.

As for what the budget is nobody outside Doug's inner circle will know, but when it comes to Doug he will invest in what and who he thinks is worth it. And although it might not be what who everyone wants, he gets more right than wrong on those decisions . He will let others talk and not seek attention even when he signs a player, Cov way is quiet and effective.
