How’s the ref explain that! (7 Viewers)

At the end of the day, if the referee had shown any consistency, they should have been down to 10, then it's a different ball game

At the end of the day, we have eleven players on the pitch that can make it a different game. Fans over focus on one the ref. Yes like players they make mistakes but not as many as fans from either side think.

They don't have to make many, but it's the impact, if Eccles hadn't have been booked, then no complaints, but he was and so should have been Hirst

I'm not disagreeing with that. But it doesn't necessarily impact on the result. Fans cling on to this notion the end result would always be different is untested .

Well obviously it does, who knows what Would have happened, he could have given him a second yellow and Ipswich may have won 5-0, but at least the referee would have been consistent in his decision making

And because Eccles had been booked he couldn't put a tackle in to block the ball from being threaded through! It's a minefield of what ifs

What is your judgement based on. Your view or the refs. Because it comes down to what the ref sees.

Let's face it VAR despite countless replays from different angles still only muddies the waters.

So why not grow a pair and get on with the game. Because that is how football has been played most of my life. The history of football is built on mistakes by player's, manager's and referees.

Why fuel Talksport with a week's worth of analytical bollocks that changes nothing.

He fucked up not sending off Hirst, and no amount of edgelording on this forum is going to change that.

KKH will probably be dropped on the back of his mistake.
Tierney won't.

Eccles was booked for shanking a shot over after the whistle so yes Hirst should have been sent off by the parameters the referee had set.
As Oggy said, if he doesn’t give Eccles a yellow, there’s not much to moan about. He did, which makes it look shambolic when he doesn’t call the second incident.

Pete we cant blame the ref for today , we were poor and comfortably beaten second half

It was a poor decision but ultimately we didnt get it and we just werent good enough
We weren't poor first half. Why not blame the ref? He booked Eccles, then didn't book Hurst? Later booked another Ipswich player. They all did the same thing, he bottled it. Even Ipswich fans are posting the same, in their forum.

It most certainly impacted the game as he wouldn't of been on the pitch to score the crucial second goal.At one nil with ten men they would of sat in and defended the lead. But games finished and we lost its how we react lose at Preston and it could be the start of a spiral the wrong way.

I will also point out that their centre mid committed 4 fouls inside the first 15-30 minutes the last one a certain yellow on Eccles when he got nowhere near the ball. 5-10 minutes later Grimes slid in, got the ball and was booked for his first real challenge of any note.
We then had our 2 midfielders on bookings for the rest of the match. That has an impact on how we play.
On top of the non booking for their midfielder, Hirst, their keepers deliberate hamdball, etc etc.
It wasnt just one bad decision we got. He was at it all game and affected our game and game plan and ultimately the result was influenced by him in a number of ways.

Consistency is king I think often hard because things happen that are slightly different

Always been a much higher threshold for a second yellow which to me has never made sense

I agree.

Let's say two players do exactly the same infringements - one a foul, the other kicking the ball away.

First player does the foul first, gets booked, then later on kicks the ball away. Doesn't get a second yellow because it's not 'serious' enough to see them sent off.

Second player kicks the ball away first, gets booked, then commits the foul and gets a second yellow because it is serious enough to send them off.

Absolute nonsense. It's either a booking or it isn't. Whether it's their second or not should play not part in the decision.

Different game with them on 10 players with us - remember it was nil nil at the time
Different game if he hadn't booked Eccles who could not tackle the player heading toward the area prior to their first goal!!!!!

I didn’t see the incident itself in truth, all I heard was the Mrs saying the “keepers handled it outside the box” but when I’ve got in, I’ve only seen Eccles setting up a free kick on the left hand side.

Frustrating if it was a clear an obvious scoring chance that the keeper prevented, but given it’s not been mentioned to Frank during the post match presser suggests that maybe City or CWR at the least, they don’t see that as a big contentious moment.
At the time I thought nothing of it. Thought he had misjudged where the line was.
Watching the replay, he stopped Simms having an opportunity to score. A difficult position to score from, but an opportunity nevertheless.

Anyone would think we shouldn't lose again. If Ipswich is the best opposition we have we will definitely win more than we lose. 2/3 of our foward line were missing and Rudoni was running round like O'Hare used to - i.e. a headless chicken but that is because Ipswich knew how to play him.
As for the ref? If Eccles was on a yellow would the ref have given him another for kicking the ball away? Maybe not. With the Ipswich guy he had already got a yellow and maybe the kick away did not deserve a red which is what he would have got. We talk about consistancy and if that is right then the ref should apologise for being inconsistant. I do not think he should be slaughtered for it though.
As Oggy said, we have been very lucky this season with decisions and maybe we just have to accept it. On the plus I was impressed with Andrews and hopefully he can progress over the coming weeks.

predict that in a few seasons managers will have the ability to call “time out and review” a couple of key incidents per match. Review successful - keep your review. Unsuccessful - one less left, like Test cricket.
Would be another firm step towards the dull Americanisation of football, where getting to analyse controversial decisions ad nauseam in TV studios is far more important than preserving the flow of the game.

Some mental takes to suggest Hirst not being sent off didn’t impact the game. It changes it hugely and law of averages would say we would have taken a point at worst, if. 3.

it was a basic decision as you will see given what went before it. That’s the anger, it wasn’t 50/50 call or anything, easiest decision all day once he booked Eccles and Kipre on 2nd half which was just embarrassing.

and we were not shit! People again need to calm down and stop being so reactive!

see you at Preston.
