Yeah there should.

I think there are guidelines though (and it also depends on the job and conditions).

There’s a guideline minimum of 16 but no maximum

The only bit the law says is it has to be ‘reasonable’. Outdated considering that previously extreme temperatures for this country are becoming normal.

16.1 is legal minimum it’s not guideline although it is dependent on work. Hasawa 1978 I think

News to me, am certain that’s not in law. Happy to be corrected

OK so we have an entirely predictable problem coming up here which will present a real risk to vulnerable people especially the old. Are the Government doing anything to mitigate this and do they have a plan or are they just going to wait until it happens again?

A legal maximum working temperature would be a good start-and help businesses and workplaces install air con

And places where elderly people could go with air conditioning? Opening public buildings to the vulnerable. All it takes is some planning and foresight but instead they are rambling on about trans issues and tax cuts.

This Government just walks into every crisis, no matter how predictable. I sort of get the impression they might not be too competent.

This heatwave is symptomatic of global warming, we know the planets average temperature is rising year by year, the ice cap is melting, etc etc and most of the Tories want to scrap the Green Levy and Carbon neutral targets.

Literally

Also the same morons who when we have a few days of snow in winter are the first to use it as proof climate change/warming isn't happening.

Of course and global warming is the most important challenge facing us by far, so you'd think the Conservative leadership challenge should all be about who has the best vision for tackling it. Except you wouldn't because they think there are few votes in it.

As on the other thread, Liz Truss did actually speak in favour of nuclear power and renewables as the moderate term answer. Not sure who fed her that one, but it's correct

I'm expecting the chilled aisle at Tesco Arena to be absolutely heaving .

No-one buying anything of course. Just people hanging around and "browsing" for several hours in the one aisle.

Really pissing me off the so called social media experts. Why are we so poor at accepting guidance and advice? It’s very dangerous there will be heart attacks and strokes. Hopeful only the arrogant duckers who think it’s health and safety gone mad rather than any of my friends or family or any on here unless you’re one of the arrogant duckers

Yes! I knew burning piles of tyres and only using fridges with CFCs would pay off.

Tuesday's dipped to a mere 34 mind you!

Anyway, ice cream stocks getting depleted at supermarkets, maybe unsurprisingly.

Had a spate of claims against skip companies a year or two ago for driveway damage in hot weather. Had to do some research and iirc tarmac becomes susceptible to damage at just below 30 degrees. At 40 don’t rule out extensive damage to a lot of roads and driveways under heavy vehicles.

Think we will get the kids’ walk/bike ride out the way by 10:30 tomorrow morning and then come back indoors. Tempted to give our two rabbits a number 1 all over before Monday too

Considering our eldest son’s high school finish for summer at 12:30 on Monday I’m surprised they haven’t just binned the last day off all together.

Fully expecting the selfish toilet roll pasta wankers to clear the shelves of suncream today.

Just look out for those cold showers/baths. Supposed to boost your immune system but your body will naturally regulate its core temperature to a warmer state, so it’s counterproductive.

I agree that it’s 5 minutes of bliss though!

Not bollocks at all. If the air's being heated up by the sun, you don't want it getting up your house too

We have shutters and they're only opened during the evening in summer - it keeps the sunlight out and keeps it cooler.

Those who have access to it-rub anything with a high alcohol content into your skin. The evaporation will cool you down without you having to sweat.
