Transfer Rumour Hayden Hackney

2bf that’s what Sunderland have done and built them around Xhaka

Maybe we are building them around Matty Grimes, as he’s one of the most technically gifted players we’ve seen and reads the game well?

Whatever we do, I just don't want a few championship signings and a limp attempt at staying up.

It's a whole different conversation and we should enjoy this promotion first, but I do hope we have a genuine go at it next season. I get the feeling we will.

[shmmeee]

Not sure how Markelo can be placed in the FAIL column just yet.

I judge signings by whether they get on the pitch mostly.

[Manchester_sky_blue]

Or Woolfenden, Esse, Yang, Markelo. More misses than hits since the first batch of signings really.

Esse hasn't been outstanding but he has contributed, he gave us another option and got us through some difficult periods. Yes it would be lovely if every signing proved as good as Rudoni or Grimes but it doesn't mean anyone below that level is a miss. Woolf is similar although I did expect better from him. Possibly more a victim of Latis uptick in form rather than his own abilities.

[PUSB-We_are_going_up]

Would anyone take Jobe Bellingham as a backup in midfield? I know he isnt anywhere near as good as the hype but at a young age he could develop into a good CM especially under Lampard

Doug's already said we will and he's done everything else he promised hasn't he. Promotion Stadium Commercial

It's very much in his own interests for us to stay up and he's clearly not in the habit of losing money.

How bad analytics built a Tottenham team that might get relegated

Tottenham are really bad and looking at the way this team has been constructed, one thing clearly stands out: This team is really bad at passing the ball, and that may explain their present malaise.

I hadn't see that article before but it typifies what some of us have been saying many times, it's not data that is wrong (e.g. xG) but it's how you use it.

If Hackney was our player, we’d all be saying he can make the step the up.

There’s definitely players we can sign from this league and Hackney would be one of those players if Boro don’t go up. As you say, it can’t be a wannabe Championship super team.

I think he could step up in just not sure he's the best value on attributes/cost.

Garbage in, garbage out.

The Leicester team that won the Prem had a ‘data driven’ approach to building their team to be a great counter attacking team, they still had players like Drinkwater who can play.

Is this a wind up?

A) Hes not good enough. Hype way outweighs the talent.
B) Hes playing regular ish for Dortmund so theyre not about to just loan him out. And hes not lilely to want to leave.
C) He's just gone to Dortmund for £30m. So theyre not going to let him go for less than that! And if we're spending £35m+ on a player, hes got to be a damn sight better and more experienced than Jobe fucking Bellingham! And certainly not a "back up" as you suggest!

£35m+ to sit on the bench behind Rudoni!

Really interesting

Woolf has been in a side without a settled back line all season and failed to break through ahead of two other CBs who cost less to bring in.

Esse maybe but I’m not sure while he’s got reasonable time on the pitch he’s been pretty poor when there.

A miss for me is someone who doesn’t impact the pitch. And those players haven’t really. I like KKH a lot as a player when I’ve seen him but fact is he’s had little impact on the results of the club for his money.

[Nick]

We need to look for better then Hamer ffs

They'll all be daftly overpriced to PL clubs though, I suspect.

I think KKH did his ankle preseason and again early doors. It'll have had a bigger impact than has been let on I think. Certainly Milan could have been given a lot more rest later in games and wasn't. Let's judge him next eason

Brentford do it superbly. The amount of forwards they have had success from and made million in the process is very impressive.

yeah agreed and I’d keep him about for the Prem.

[Evo1883]

According to the mail(but would make sense anyway )the club are looking for athleticism in midfield .. not sure hackney fits the bill , hes the sort of player an established PL club would sign not one looking to build a new squad to stay up

Somebody like Everton

[Sky Blue Pete]

Do we call him sick note Hackney

It's all about the spine through the middle I think. This is where we need experience either PL or a top European league and that always costs good money. Onyeka's in already, obviously we need a keeper then a big CB to help Bobby make the step up and a striker. After that it's anyone's guess who they're looking at and what the budget will be but they wouldn't want to drop £20m on the likes of Hackney I don't think if that's not in place.

[Mr.Chilled]

20 million on Hackney or Harvey Elliott.....hhmmmmmm

[PUSB-We_are_going_up]

Im not spending that on either of them, Elliott has an attitude problem and we need Prem experience in the midfield so rules Hackney out even if you dont account for how would he fit into the style of play which I dont think he would

On what evidence does he have an 'attitude problem'?

Hamer would be an awful signing, he can’t run. People need to move on it’s embarrassing

[SBAndy]

I just wonder whether Aidan Morris is the smarter signing from the Boro midfield.

[mark82]

Or Woolfenden, Esse, Yang, Markelo. More misses than hits since the first batch of signings really.

But soon to be writing Markelo off.

[shmmeee]

But soon to be writing Markelo off.

If he can’t get in a championship side he isn’t getting in a premier league side. Unless a year and a half will also be too soon?

[Cov. Kids. Never. Quit]

King said Markelo was a player they probably would have moved for in summer but a number of clubs were showing strong interest and we wanted to make the move now before it was too late.

Suspect a full pre season with us and will be a good option.

I would start Markelo against Portsmouth, he is our player after all.

[Captain Dart]

Or Woolfenden, Esse, Yang, Markelo. More misses than hits since the first batch of signings really.

Esse & Yang are temporary, recruited to plug squad gaps. Not really a valid comparison & remember Esse has scored twice and got 1 assist that's not too shabby.

I don't think Woolfenden has been a washout, he has contributed and he is worth decent money in the transfer market.

In my opinion Markelo looks promising and he is 100% keeping Yang & Brau out of the squad, pity about Yang's time here it's probably a bit too early in his career for him to perform at the level needed.

Coventry City tipped to seal Hayden Hackney deal with Middlesbrough

The Sky Blues have no sealed their return to the Premier League, and are set to make a move for one of their Championship rivals' most-prized assets.

The more interesting thing in that article is that Rudi's shoulder has been so bad he hasn't been able to sleep some nights. He's clearly struggled a lot this season. I hope they get him into surgery asap now.

In one of the videos from a recent game they showed him with his top off and he had it strapped. I'd be tempted to leave him out for the rest of it season to get him into that operating theatre as early as possible.

After Tuesday, definitely…

Secure the title then move into full planning mode for the summer. I’m sure the back room staff are, King did allude to it in one of a few interviews since Friday.

[Perryccfc]

I like Hackney, he’s undoubtedly a good player. But I have to say every time I’ve watched Boro this season I’ve thought Morris is there best player.
