Exactly if this is the gamble that PH4 is willing to take, will it have any benefits to CCFC at all?

Afterall PH4 is a property developer is he not?

This stuff about they could have more gigs without the Ricoh there that keeps getting spouted is still tripe.

They are only going to be held in the summer, and only a certain amount of people each year touring that could fill the place, and with nothing getting in the way this year, only two gigs, Muse and Springsteen, when there were plenty of others on the circuit such as Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams who could have played there.(Bon Jovi, who has already played at the Ricoh, this year chose to play at Villa Park!).

The need for somebody coming in to build a hotel has always puzzled me, surely if there was such a need then somebody could have come in and built one already?

People do only tend to play the Ricoh once... I wonder why that is??

There have been planning apps for a hotel submitted. They haven't been built, I doubt there is demand. I don't think the De Vere at the Ricoh is often full, and I know that the Novotel close by is rarely full either, it's the last resort for colleagues staying in Coventry on business.

Since the Ricoh was built 3 hotels have opened in and around the City Centre.

Know it all les reid is now saying Summin along lines about 50 or 100% deal agreed for Ricoh or ACL won't confirm it it's 50 or 100%

I don't think stadium 100% needs a team to be successful. None of us know how having 20 odd weekends a season being used for football impacts on other business. For all we know other events, be them stadium events or conference type events have been lost as the football has always had priority. I can't imagine many people looking to put a business type event on would be particularly thrilled at the the thought of 10K football fans milling around.

I think you can also make an argument that not having a football teams makes it more attractive for representative events and things like the rugby semis. Not having a league schedule to complete means the pitch should be in much better condition than others, availability for training days and general availability for event dates. Also means that if you had something like and England Womens or U21 match you wouldn't be competing for casual supporters against CCFC games.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's an ideal scenario to lose CCFC from a business standpoint but I don't think it's the doomsday scenario some people would have us believe.

To be fair, there aren't actually that many business type events on at weekends, most trade fairs are held during the week, nobody wants to use their own time for work!

Is Preston an expert in running leisure complexes?
Since Arena opened, gone is the Gym, gone is the isle of Capri Casino & now gone the football club! Will Compass & casino follow?
Take That & Bon Jovi did several nights in the stadium!
The near by NEC & NIA might be a factor but Ricoh should host more big names & be better utilized.
Get Madonna, Gaga, 1D, Take That with Robbie down, then maybe more profits!
Council are not event managers!!

The thing that goes against the ricoh the most for me is no rail access.The LG is piss easy to get to by rail,get off at inter then a ten minute walk to the venue.Im convinced if the ricoh had the same transport links im sure it would get plenty more big gigs.Being a proud coventrian I hope the ricoh can fullfill its potential,unlike some it would seem.

i agree having no train station is one of the main reason the ricoh does not get loads of concerts it should of been built along with an underpass the same time as the ricoh so the council missed a trick there

Can't blame anybody but the management company of the Ricoh for it not fullfilling it's potential really.

You're right, we shouldn't move back in til that's sorted, otherwise we'll never get 32,000 crowds there.

To be fair, the government have been right gits re rail station, KNUCKLE still no where near happening!
ACL = Council, bloody hopeless....sell 100% Ricoh to an event venue expert!

Haven't the events that they have held there, gigs, Olympics, Rugby(though not been back for years) etc been sell-outs though pretty much?

It's not the lack of rail station that's the problem, it's not having management capable of attracting enough events to the Ricoh and retaining them when they do.

I agree that Acl hasn't fulfilled its potential, but it is a long way off from the "failing business" that Fisher tried to smear it as.

The Ricoh has just sort of ticked over under the management of ACL. I've seen nothing however from any of the sisu appointed board members over the last 6 years that made me think they could do any better.

I did see that they were going to appoint a proper stadium management company if they got the Higgs share(before it all fell apart of course).

That still needs to be done whoever owns the Ricoh/ACL regardless of the club position.

Supposedly SISU were going to bring in AEG but nobody I knew who was working at AEG at the time knew anything about it. AEG are a huge company in sports and entertainment but as far as I know have no involvement in the conference industry. AEG own 50% of LA Galaxy among other teams and own or operate large arenas such as the O2 and Manchester Arena. The problem would be that most of the acts they deal with would be too big for the Jaguar Hall and for the stadium size acts they already use the Ricoh so I'm not sure that arrangement would have seen a great improvement over what we have now but I guess we'll never know.
