Surely Charles is Scottish monarch as much as the English one?
Would it matter if Scotland was independent?
Though I'd imagine what Brighton says is true.

Though a fair chunk of independence supporters have the same attitude towards the SNP, dump them once its done

To want rid of evil elitist Westminster but keep the monarchy is too big a contradiction. They do realise that but stand better chances if they can con a few more unionists into thinking they’ll stay.

Nope. He was talking to an audience he assumed were in full support for independence so let a few other things slip on top

It would seem pretty odd for sturgeon to get Charles to perform the same legislative processes in Holyrood as he does in Westminster - hardly the idea of a republic which is going to want to merge into the EU

For the record, you can get brown or white nonces.

Yeah, there might be an awful lot of rings in the Pakistani community or people marrying kids in the far east but then again there seems to be a lot in power as well who are white who make it go away because of power.

Let's not forget that Andrew and the Queen paid over £10m to a girl Andrew denies ever meeting and Andrew went on holiday to see a convicted nonce to say he doesn't want to be friends any more.

He gave an interview that he thought would put him in the clear but was about the most self incriminating of all time.

Any major changes to the Constitution in Scotland needs a referendum. Not the choice of any political party who the Head of State is. It is entirely a separate question to Scottish independence and would need another referenda to make any changes to the Constitution.

Charles doesn't have to pay inheritance tax either.

Looking forward to hearing how hard he worked in a few years when he dies.

Well Richard Murphy is on 5 live for an hour to give us abolish the monarchy rationale

Do you think I’m being conditioned by his twaddle?

He believes Stephen Fry should be a president to succeed the queen

It’s just recency bias really isn’t it.

Half the country weren’t arsed about the Queen but she dies and their world is in turmoil.

People don’t like Charles but once he becomes King he’s great.

Half the forum don’t rate Hyam but once he leaves he’s world class

Etc etc

Wait, is that actually recency bias? Whatever it’s called, that’s what it is!

How do you know there’s a huge gulf? We only found out what exactly Jimmy Savile was after he died. The one victim he’s paid off might just be the tip of the iceberg for all you know and given the company he kept and how long he kept that company it’s not beyond the realm’s of possibilities that there’s more to come out. Who knows what stories the press are sitting on not wanting to print while his mother was still alive. Once things have settled down after her funeral I wouldn’t be at all surprised if more stuff starts coming out. Even if it’s that he was very aware of what the company he was keeping was doing in detail.

So now your in the realms of what might be and generally making stuff up to suit your argument. Well played.

Just had someone say to me “I suppose you’re going to take the bank holiday along with all the other anti monarchist?”, to which I replied “you’re an atheist aren’t you?”. The penny didn’t drop, I still had to explain to him that he takes Christmas and Easter bank holidays.

Also just for the record I’m not anti monarchy I’m just not pro monarchy either. I do believe Major reforms are needed though, such as tax arrangements, recently highlighted by Charles not paying inheritance tax.

"A non political national treasure like Stephen Fry" - he also mentioned someone else non political I cannot recall but its an attempt to diffuse the objections.

Mr Fry isn't exactly non political but really we all know who Mr Murphy would really want to see as President - he should have just said it and then stood his ground

Also to further show that the balance of debate on TV is present we were treated to the spectacle of that old Fossil Polly Toynbee and her former boss (twice I believe) - on the Andrew Neil Channel 4 programme discussing the future of the monarchy (or lack of it as they want)

Toynbee really is a special kind of journalist. Always on the wrong side of public opinion. At lease she remains consistent to the end.

How has it riled me up?

I thought it was amusing and as I say it shows the media brainwashing is not exactly what it seems.

He got pretty riled by the end with members of the public who dared to disagree with him - far more than I was listening to him
