Everyone had knowledge that AL was open to sensible offers other than for the unencumbered freehold. It was reported in the press and discussed on here. No great secret. The answer to AL announcing that she would be open to sensible offers should have been " thanks Ann, our offer will be on the table on Monday morning. We realise we won't get an unencumbered freehold, but a 250 lease would be fine". Was it though? Or was it more like " we're building our own stadium and we're not bluffing " or " we're counter-suing Higgs for 250 grand " or " we're taking a JR against you, if necessary up to the European Court "? I would suggest that the " dim wits " are the people who didn't promptly put an offer on the table, not the ones who said we are open to sensible offers.

Who in their wildest dreams would have thought a 250 years lease for peanuts was an offer the council couldn't refuse though? You make it sound like people should read the council's mind? A 250 year lease for the peanuts WASP got if for does not constitute a sensible or reasonable offer in my book!

I'm not blaming Wasps for making what was from their perspective a very sensible purchase. I don't approve of their move just as I didn't approve of ours to Northampton and obviously the Ricoh is our home, it wasn't built for Wasps. I don't think however that real fans can be pleased that Sisu and therefore the club are now out of any chance of getting back any part of the Ricoh. What I am saying is that the two faced council shouldn't have have accepted an offer (and extended the lease) to a team who were moving some considerable distance, whilst condeming Sisu for moving our club to Sixfields. That's double standards (or hypocritcal) at best. I feel sorry for the wasps fans who will find it hard or impossible to make the trip to Coventry, and they've got further to go than the 35miles we moved.

Whilst accepting the points which you raise can you honestly say that the Council have done anything wrong......could you have dealt with Shitzu???????

getting touchy now. Norman Binns just mentioned keeping an open mind. Obviously pissed you off. It may be the lowest ebb in half a century, but some of us can see why. I want CCFC to survive as much as you do, but I will not blame Wasps for our demise and I do not hate them for trying to save themselves. I also think that we would be better off having a good relationship with Wasps and their fans as they are in the driving seat. In fact we may need their fans support in the future. So, I say fair enough Wasps, let's work together. In the meantime where is the vision from our leaders? They are very quiet. They control CCFC, we should be asking them what they are doing for CCFC not Wasps. They have failed us miserably.

For somebody who is busy with business when the talk gets around to football you have a fair bit of time to fight the Corner of wasps / ccc?

No, they should read what the council says: no unencumbered freehold - open to sensible offers. Then make an offer e.g. Long term lease. Start at 500 years and say you are flexible. Take it from there. A bit like buying a car - don't start with your final offer. Easy really.

Yep and that would suggest she never mentioned or even (to give her some credit) the possibility of a 250 year lease as an alternative that would almost be like having the freehold and at a far reduced rate than buying the freehold would have been too! Do you really suppose those confidential offers may have included such an option and SISU would have ignored that too? I would find that extremely difficult to believe and so for me that is not in there. Of course SISU could tell us this as fact and clear that up. Just answer the question: "was a 250 year lease for peanuts ever on the table for CCFC"?

Fair point, but as I have said in other threads I don't think Sisu have ever had the money to afford to. The other reason is that if AL didn't give them the same offer the backlash is something the council could do without.

What on earth has watching Cov Rugby got to do with what we're discussing now you nit wit? And don't come the emotional crap about deserting the club. If the club is not providing the product that is going to get me through the turnstile then I have every right to watch another local sports team. To be honest, I think most people wish you'd fuck off, you're about as popular as RFC.

You are right. I am screwing up my business at the moment. I have got the beeswax, the Zoll and new labour laws as from 01. January to contend with. So I just thought, fuck it, let's put my opinion on here - I can't get more crap than I have got in my world at the moment. Grendel is like a Sunday school teacher in comparison to the German beeswax. Thinking about it, Malta and the Cayman Isles have a nice ring about them......

They seem to have built up trust with Wasps. SISU immediately reaffirming that they were leaving, having just walked through the door at the Ricoh, probably appeased any conscience they may have had.

Sheep remain loyal to their shepherd until they end up as roast lamb, doesn't mean they have backbone ( although lamb chops do taste good ).

I don't see what's wrong with being ever so slightly peeved that Wasps compromise sporting integrity, the sense of space and place, and loosen the chains tying every sporting club to its home.

Add to that, even if new ground is truth :O then they're a direct rival for crowds with CRFC, Cov Bees, CCFC... so attempt to muscle in on the territory of sides already in the city.

I would say attempt is the wrong word. They are in our territory. I am more concerned with the people who allowed this to happen - yes, I know the evil CCC and all that - but, I mean the primary cause not the secondary....

Agreed. The more wasps become embedded in Coventry, have success, etc. The more our existing sporting teams will suffer. I keep reading that the people of Coventry can't afford to go to the football. If true they certainly won't be able to go to the football, CRFC games, bees, and wasps games.

The Council did agree to a 125 year lease for SISU as part of the original Higgs deal, obviously the overall deal fell away, but surely SISU remembered that a long lease was available. As the stadium won't last more than 125 years without major refurb then the difference between 125 and 250 years is not worth that much, £1m in fact, according to reports.

Everybody can see why the club is a shadow of its former self, I think you conflate disliking that Wasps are here with blaming them for the club's mess. Although I think you and others seriously, seriously overestimate Wasps', or more accurately Derek Richardson's, willingness to be generous to the club.

I don't overestimate it, but I think we should be working at getting him on our side and the Wasps fans - who may have influence with him. Our (SISU) mistake last time was the relationship with the landlords. If we slate them and say we hate them, they are hardly going to put a good word in for us. We are in a shit situation, let's not make it worse.

There is just a clear practical obstacle even if both clubs are willing to get around the table, and that is that it makes no sense for Wasps to have us here if they don't profit from it, and it makes no sense for us to stay if the finances would work out better at our own ground. These things are mutually exclusive and would need some concessions from Wasps to make it worthwhile staying on a purely financial basis. Even then, this is a ground that will be decked in Wasps branding and will not feel like CCFC's home one bit.

All makes me think what happened when this first started and that is that SISU must now take a new ground seriously and put all their energy into that.

Well they managed to be condemning our move to Northampton and saying how bad that was moving a club away from the supposrters. Whilst they have also then been happily taking Wasps money and allowing a team to move even further away from their supporters. Now that's before we consider the effect that this will have on our local teams.

Nothing wrong with that at all, I have no issue whatsoever with people who have an issue with wasps moving away from their fans, it's a perfectly reasonable reason to dislike them, I havn't taken a position on it myself as I don't know if it's true that it was necessary, sucks for the wasps fans either way though

If that is the case then a 250 year lease and freehold are very different matters. Why take a lease when only the freehold will do?
