But we can’t compete with Premier league teams or recently relegated teams financially. Gus has been brilliant for us. But we’ve managed to keep hold of him a lot longer than we were meant to.
Gus was originally an expensive punt by Sisu standards at the time, to come in for a £1m and by 18-24mo leaving for a substantial fee. That was the idea…
For him to have played 122 games for us and Robins turning him into a Rolls Royce of a player from that hot headed kid from Holland has been a joy to watch.
He turns 26 next week and he is a class above the Championship and deserves to play at a higher league. It’s a short career.
Sad to say goodbye when he goes, but he will depart as a City modern day legend.
