Lol. At least make a call. In my view you pay £4.5m to league 1 you have to be buying the crem de la crem. Afraid hes not. Let me call it now.

Premier league clubs wouldnt buy for those sums from league 1 unless your an unbelievable talent.

Totally agree, ..... but, we are very nearly a quarter of the way through the season, and this isn't the premier league, it's a very average championship, we've just played Huddersfield, QPR, and Blackburn, not Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man City.

How long should we wait before we expect to see signs that he's a £7+m international striker? Or before we realise that we may of made a mistake?

And just for the record, I honestly hope he does become the striker we desperately need, my only hope is that the return of O'hare along with Sheaf and Palmer etc may result in more chances for him.

I think this is part of the problem. Some posters are trying to make comparisons with the likes of Huddersfield, QPR, and Blackburn with teams on a totally different level. We currently don't have to beat Barcelona, RM, and Man city. 7M wouldn't buy them a reserve team player

League 1 players tend to move up a league at a time , very rare that one moves directly to the premier league .

Yes, but my point is that a £7+million pound international striker, should be terrorising championship defences.

There could be something in that to an extent but America along Australia and New Zealand are probably the closest culturally to the UK as you can get. When he joined the Turkish league that may have been a factor. With regards to how moving effrcts a players ability to preform, the young lad Doku is not struggling to adapt at Man City, Moussa Diaby has settled in nicely at Aston Villa. Rasmus højlund a 20yo at Utd has settled in really well and seamlessly adapted to English football, Mahrez who cost hardly anything settled at Leicester. I realise some of those players cost more than Hadji but they are playing at a higher level and are shining. There will be other examples of players who didn't settle well, but for me that is 90% more down to ability. Pleasingly Hadji played well last night when he came on and I get the sense he is a confidence player and to get the best out of him needs to be really courageous and fully run at players without fear of losing the ball or getting tackled. Fingers crossed he will shine from here and the coaching team can improve areas the he needs to develop in.

It’s be interesting to gauge (from Wright himself) if he’s found the transition to English football more difficult than any other league - be it the Turkish, Danish, or Dutch leagues.

Regardless of whether we payed over the odds, it’s done, and unchangeable. If he acclimatises, great. If he doesn’t…well. It’ll be a long four years.

I have to admit I was gobsmacked that we payed £4.5m for a league 1 player. We seem to get pissed up with money once we sold Gyokeres.

Having said that I'll wait till I've seen him.play a few games before passing judgement as it could prove to be a masterstroke, he was highly rated by his former clubs fans, which bodes well. We always need a leader and a hard fucker at the back, and he could well be Fadz's eventual replacement.
And at 24, he could even have a profit in him.

How does that work? The strikers that “terrorised” Championship defences last year went for £10m, £12m and £20m.

I’m still on the fence with Wright, but you are right. Once people have made their mind up about a player generally that’s all they look out for and that’s it.

I did say I think he’ll come good though after I calmed down. Long way to go yet though.

It’s why ratings threads are an absolute waste of time. Everyone is full of biased shite.

I imagine he has played fewer than two matches worth of time. Most of those appearances were very short.

Unbelievable!

But how can you tell, he's only played half the minutes Wright has, and apparently Wright still needs time to "gel" but in terms of minutes per goal they are similar.

But Tavares is 3 years younger, faster, and can control and trap a football.

(I'm not saying Tavares is better or not, I'm just pointing out the complete nonsense that's spouted on here)

It’s actually amazing you’re more supportive of him and give him a lot more leeway than Simms who’s the same age.

He's played c. five games worth of minutes, two goals, two assists. With a bit of luck (Leicester) and a quicker reaction (Huddersfield), he'd have four goals. His stats aren't bad as they are.

He's shown flashes of having the skillset and attributes to do what you're saying. Pace, power, seems two footed. I'm looking fwd to him starting some games with Simms when the time's right.

I think he'll do what you're saying, and I think he's shown more than Vik did in his loan spell. Fans are behind him at games and he's got coaches and MR who improve players. I'm glad he's here.

Back in reality Wright is a full international and the other is only 3 years younger and has never played sustained first team football.

Definitely. It was more when he came on before with twenty mins left. I just don’t get why in that situation you wouldn’t run yourself into the ground. I guess some players just aren’t natural runners.

I have very little idea how good Tavares is because I have hardly seen him play. I have seen him score a great goal and play a crucial role in another.

You have a clear view and seemed to have before he'd even played a minute for us. Genuinely I would love to know what that us based on. Was it all down to Grendel saying he had seen him in an under 21 match and saying he didn't rate him? Or had you seen him yourself?

The fact he’s hardly played first team footballer here and elsewhere in his career says a lot - he’s almost 23, not some 16 year old breaking through into the first team.
As I said, you’ve given Simms plenty of stick despite him only just arriving at the club and being the same age as Tavares and actually being successful elsewhere.
Says it all.

Great post. He's currently averaging just under 0.5 goals x90, which is fantastic stats for a forward. No reason he can't keep those numbers up either.

Some of you are really ridiculous about this whole thing and let's be honest, if we had paid a lesser fee for him, you wouldn't be crying about his play so much.

I follow all American players abroad, and actually used to write for the website, 'Yanks Abroad' and have been following Haji for awhile now. I even watched a lot of his games when he played at Antalyaspor and/or at least the highlights of most games when he was there. He always takes a bit to get his feet under him, but when he does he starts banging them in on the regular.

He showed against Blackburn what he is capable of, in terms of his finishing and causing problems for the defense. That will give him a much needed confidence boost and he will start banging them in if MR gives him the chance. Bookmark this post if you want, don't much care.

Always amazes me how easily some of our fans write some of our players off when they have barely played.

And before some smartass says only reason I am defending him like this is because he is an American, that is not the case. I am doing so because he is a very good striker on his day and will be seen as such sooner rather than later.
