If that missing ingredient in central midfield is added who knows. Lati, Eccles and Sheaf are all perfectly good holding players but when asked to pull off expansive Hamer type passes do struggle.

I don’t think Eccles is a holding mid as much as a box to box, but he struggles to pass further than about ten yards. Sheaf can buy often doesn’t and still doesn’t drill the ball crossfield like Hamer. None of our CBs can hit that raking diagonal ball either, so we look a lot more pedestrian and constantly miss opportunities to release our wide players with a switch IMO.

They’re all quite similar players which are fine when paired with someone more dynamic but put together are predictable. Which doesn’t make either bad players at all.

Gyokeres of 3 years ago would be similar to what Wright is now. Or perhaps more naive than Wright is? I think Wright is improving every game. Goals will come but he’s doing a lot of work on the pitch. He’s definitely a team player as is Simms. Simms will get better as well.

Pity he missed that open goal with the header against Shef Wed .

Wright will be approaching 29 in 3 years time!
These comparisons are a bit mad.
In the end Wright is a striker and needs to find his shooting boots if he is to be a success here.

Perhaps You’re right? He’s working hard. Hope he doesn’t get panned like Kevin Kyle Simon Haworth did. He deserves a goal or two and is on target for 14 goals and the assists. Not bad considering.

In his first 14 appearances he played 90 minutes once. In these games he scored 2 and assisted 2. Since then he has played more than 23 minutes 9 times. From them he has scored 4 and has 2 assists. Do that over a season and you get 20 goals and 10 assists. And he is still finding his feet.

I stopped at the 'do that over a season' bit. If only life was that easy!
We all know he has a lot of work to do in terms of being a goal threat and has quite a few flaws, maybe more than you'd expect from an international approaching 26.
I don't want to be too down on him because there is clearly improvement and he seems fairly positive in the squad. But we need him to threaten in the box and score consistently.
btw I don't think it will work pretending he is a wide left attacking midfield player unless Robins gets yet another expensive striker in an admits a mistake basically.

Jack Clarke is quality and way out of our reach.
To compare him with Hamer is obserd, possibly the daftest comment I have read on here (quite a achievement) by the way. Totally different players, with absolutely no similarities what so ever.
Put your hand in the air and slap yourself.

Wright will be 28 in 3 years time. At which point he'll still easily have at least 3 years left before he starts to physically decline. What a ridiculous comment.

And he's now playing as a winger - I don't think anyone would have expected him to score 20 goals off the wing if we'd signed him as one.

20+ goals and assists combined would be a great return.

I just don't understand why people are complaining about the striker who is scoring despite being played on the wing, and has also been involved in virtually all our goals, but have no problem with the one who has scored twice.

It's almost like they have decided from the start they don't like him.

100% agree, he was brought in as a centre forward, but is nowhere near up to that job.

We've found a position for him on the left side of an attacking midfield, and he's done a job there, where he can collect the ball in space and run at sides without the opposition centre half dominating him.
And tbf he's looked a lot happier doing that, but this will obviously impact on his goals tally, as he's become more of a provider than scorer.

But that does require us to add another striker in Jan (imo) as Godden looks past his prime at 32, and Simms has been nothing short of woeful so far.

He hasn't done a job there, he's been good there, you just made up your mind early.

How are our 2 'league 1' centre backs getting on btw?

Wright is fine either on the left or in the centre. The problem is we can't play him in both positions. He's scoring and setting up goals. He is also working really hard and developing his game to fit our style.

20 goals and 10 assists for a striker, as we know, can fetch a £20-25 million fee. In the end, Wright will be worth his fee and some.

What is absurd is people like you that twist words and make up your own story.

I said several times we won't find another player just like Hamer. Even Hamer wasn't like Hamer when we signed him.

The reason I said Clarke is he covers most of the midfield with his runs and scores goals. If he is only a right winger why do most of his shots and goals come from the left of the area? And their new owners are not what they expected. They sell their best player each season. They haven't even had a striker for the last 2 seasons. He would improve our side vastly and we would improve him. Yes probably out of our price range but you never know with their owners.

So you expect Wright to be the same as when he first joined us and not the player he has become for us?

Did you spend time calling him a waste of money or similar and now can't bring yourself to admit it looks like you're wrong?

Because he’s not a right winger, he’s a left winger that has largely played up top this season.

On.the right wing most of the time. Then he cuts across the pitch to the left.

He hasn't played as a striker. He has 11 goals from midfield.

Edit....

Just got a message back from a mate. He has been playing on both wings. His favourite foot is his right. They are trying to get him to sign a new contract but still has two and a half years left.

My mistake, thought I’d seen him starting up top earlier in the season. Of his 24 matches this season he’s played 23 on the left and one up top. Not on the right.

28 years and 9 months to be accurate. The point was he was being compared to Vik 3 years ago and he's nearly 26 now.
He wasn't bought as a winger he was bought as a relatively pricey striker.

So you can't compare how players started for our club if there is an age gap of 3 years?

I'd say as a relatively pricey striker the jury is out until he consistently scores.
You seem to think all is great based on a really shambolic start which is now showing some signs of impovement.
