Haji shite (7 Viewers)

Tall strikers who aren’t big units who head the ball always get this. It’s cos their legs don’t have to move as fast I’m convinced. Little Jamie Allen what a worker moving his legs twice as fast as Haji but still going half the speed.

I think Haji has just been a little cautious between international breaks. He scored 2 for them last time out, needec to ensure hes fit and in this squad as if he performs well, he'll pretty much cement his place in the squad for the finals. A home world cup is his aim and clearly a huge stage. There's not another international for months and so I think we'll see a different player when he returns this time and expect him to come good. I know there'll be arguments that we pay his wages and he should always put the maximum in, but just my take on it.

Talking of size, we’ve all said Simms doesn’t use his. Often think the same of Wright.

There were 2 or 3 times Wright carried the ball and drew 2 players over to him. I think he does what Lampard asks of him tactically. If he didnt, he wouldnt be starting every game. If he ran about like Bassette people would moan as well. He got an assist 5 days ago when apparently playing shite. Great player, just has a languid play style which can be misconstrued as laziness. Think Berbatov.
I don't think he likes the "route one" approach that we've adopted recently either. Some players don't suit it, Cyrille was another I can think of.

He’s got highlights of putting proper bullet headers in. For all the crosses we put in he doesn’t get on them enough but I do wonder sometimes if we use our big men to draw a couple of defenders then play it somewhere else as a tactic.

He'll always have two or sometimes even three on him. It does make space for others, often at the edge of the box, which we've done well from.

I think Haji needs Rudoni back to play his best game. Simms is probably better suited to the opportunities that come from the long throws and balls - either scoring or assisting. To be successful we need a squad of players who can do different things surely? i feel fortunate we have them both and Thomas Asante in such fine form

He didn't have a great game, no denying. But you're using one of the same old Haji tropes, "not interested". He's had games like that before and then will score.

He wasn't "genuinely not interested". That's your opinion, not a fact.

I'll just leave this here: nine goals in league and cup.
Seconded. In games we generate low xG, Haji gets a lot of stick. It’s fair to say BTA and Sakamoto were largely anonymous too. EMC takes the plaudits for the goal but felt he was our brightest spark

Whilst he didn’t have a good game, he was better than BTA who was largely anonymous.

It was a tough chess match of a game, and a score draw probably was a ‘fair’ result.

Jeez it's a football forum. Can we not have opinions and state the bleeding obvious that certain players have been carried for weeks.

Il be more than happy if he scores the winner and gets his form back. Its not a vendetta against him.

Just stating Simms offers more in few mins than haji does for the majority of the game.

Why wasn't Simms credited with the assist yesterday.
Who's to say if Simms plays from the start against fresh opposition that he may be even less effective than Wright. Simms came on against tiring players and done his bit for the team followed by a stonking goal from EMC

not one decent pass to bring him into game either!

So what you are saying is you want ellis simms to play instead of haji wright ?
i think Ellis Simms is quite effective comin off the bench against a tiring defence! needs to come on at 65 minutes ish though

Also wish they'd both moan at the ref more. Drives my lad bonkers. Vik used to get fouled, shirt pulled, etc and he was straight in the ref's ear. Neither Simms or Wright do that. They just get on with the game, even after being hauled to the ground by a defender. Admirable to want to get on with the game, but you don't win by being admirable.

Tbf i take pride in the fact we aren't a shit house team who cries to the ref or fake injuries. Probably does count against us sometimes but it shows player focus and discipline. It also slows the game down which the majority of times we don't want.

Edit**Saying that I did Enjoy Norman against Sheffield Utd 😂

Depends on the game. Yesterday was a bit like the Play Off semi final. Wright was having an awful game and we were launching endless throws and corners into the box.

In those types of games, Simms should come on earlier. I still wouldn't start Simms over Wright.

Lets break this down because facts normally outweigh emotional opinion .

Ellis flicked on the ball from the throw , thats good thats his job he also won 3 of 4 aerial duels .

However

He completed 14% of his passes 1 accurate from 7

He lost possesion 6 times

He came on in the 84th minute , hes hardly come on and played like R9
That’s actually no better than the original post. What’s the pint of highlighting the negatives all the time we should be focusing on the positives.

To further your point, Simms got the flick on for EMC’s goal.

What the fuck is going on here ? It makes my piss boil when someone remarks on their personal thoughts about a player…. Get a fucking grip and give your head a jolly good wobble 🤬

Exactly. It seems some fans treat him like a hard done to player rather than someone who had a poor season last time out

People praising a flick on when 99 times out of 100 it wouldn’t have led to a goal anyway
It’s not as much praising the flick on as comparing the effort while on the pitch

There’s some ridiculous comments re HW here. Yes he’s been a bit off last 5 games, but Christ, have some balance.

just because someone looses form, doesn’t mean - they are shit, need selling, a disgrace ………

yea I was frustrated yesterday, but I still want him in the team.

It’s fair to quote his positive stats and acknowledging he can be a game winner, while also being massively frustrated when he performs nowhere near the level he should.

In fact, that’s what makes it even more frustrating and prompts such strong reactions.

He needs to do more - because we know he can.

Having him and BTA playing centrally just doesn't work. With the exception of the Sheff Weds game he is averaging 1 shot and less than 0.1 xG a game in that setup.

As much as i personally think Haji's form has gone off a cliff recently, the Opta stats still say he's the 2nd best attacker in the league

Someone even said how shit Haji was with the pass that he made to Torp where their goalie made a good save.

While Simms is at least showing the desire and trying to get involved in his cameos. It seems daft to just dismiss him and his contributions while Wright isn’t contributing.

We can say he only won a header, but Wright’s single highlight was receiving a stupid yellow card.
And setting up a good chance for Torp.
With the exception of EMC all our forwards were pretty well shackled yesterday due to Stoke, at home, having the best defence in the Championship. Simms looked no better than Haji other than his header assist.
However, our movement up front created chances for Torp and EMC.
