The next few months are a generation defining moment for this club.
Do you trust Haji Wright to help us see that through as the lead striker?
It's a no from me.

I have defended Wright on here but I agree with you.
We can't rely on him as a guaranteed starter, however I still feel he has an important part to play for us for the rest of the season.

What frustrates me is that other players are making obvious mistakes too (e.g. MVE has made tons recently), but Wright doesn't get cut any slack at all. IMO Eccles dropping to the floor more often than a whore's knickers is just as annoying as Wright not holding up the ball as well as he should. Not saying we should criticise everyone, the exact opposite.

An interesting read about Wright, all be it written a few years ago, but exactly what we saw from him end of last season and currently now.

The majority of this squad in the last 12 months under Frank have risen to new levels. Haji hasnt. Haji has clearly peaked, we've seen the best of him. He's no different a player now to the player that walked in to Ryton 3 years ago.

Add to that, when he's not scoring goals he offers absolutely nothing to the team. No outlet, no assists, no use defending corners against 10 men teams (see PNE). No good holding the ball up (see Ipswich last week).

For a player that cost what he cost, and wages are what as high as he'll be on, we can do much better imo. Just somebody who will leave everything on the pitch every week, regardless of whether theyre scoring or not. Somebody that offers something even if theyre not scoring.

Im calling right now, if Haji stays here, and Bamford signs till the end of the season with Blunts, Bamford finishes the season with more goals. Even though Haji had a 3½ month headstart and is effectively playing in the better attacking team.

Can't read the article, but does it say "sometimes, I just can't be arsed", by any chance?
Yeah it does, it was a game he played for America and basically it says it was an embarrassing performance, he was terrible, lazy, lack of effort, showed no interest. Apparently Josh Sargeant ran, so Wright could jog.

If he'd got two or three of the penalty shouts that should have been given recently we wouldn't even be having the discussion! We don't have anyone else who's scored at the WC finals and we're not going to get one to replace him!

The frustrations lye because we know hes capable of so much more. Hes got alot more natural attribtes than Simms.

But Simms does the basics of goal scoring well.

Simms has ridiculous goal scoring minutes stats atm.

We have to back Haji. I certainly would not be selling him. He has a part big part to play.

We are lucky to have this team.

I'm not so fussed about his recent (lack of) goalscoring form - its more the fact that when he's on the pitch its like we're playing with 10 men. Having won the ball in defence, a ball up to Wrights feet/head/chest/general vacinity is effectivey the same as passing it straight back to the opposition - perhaps with an added 1/2 second delay.

I don't really get what most of his critics think is going on in his head?

Do people really think he's not trying? Why would he do that? It makes no sense.

The fact is that he is a goalscorer, and not much else. He doesn't hold the ball up or playmake particularly well. Never has. So when he's not scoring, of course he doesn't look great. His game is all about receiving the ball facing goal in and around the box, we're struggling to create those opportunities often enough right now so it just isn't happening for him.

He's underperformed personally, but is probably unlucky to have not scored 1 or 2 in the last 10 games which would probably have taken some heat off his back.
