Haji- new agency (3 Viewers)

If Haji stays and helps us get promoted he will almost certainly go to the World Cup. If he went to a West Ham and didn’t hit the ground running he could easily be over looked.
Agree. This agency move could be a response to 1) what happens if we DON'T get promoted and 2) he has a good World Cup run with hte USA, scores goals as sub in first game, starts secoond scores again etc etc. Plus if we DO go up won't there be a number of players looking for new contracts?

If he doesn't perform for them their fans will be on his back more than ours will. He's been with us on an upwards curve. He won't be there and will be under pressure from the off

i have been wondering for a while if this is why lamps is still playing him upfront, because it helps with the discussion over a new contract. it's certainly not because that's where he's most effective.
he's shit in the air, needs too many touches of the ball, and can't hold off defenders.
he's a winger. and a really, really good one. as long as he doesn't need to track back too often.

When wright does something bad for us most of the time the crowd support him and chant his name. I remember Robins saying how important that was during his first season with us. I can't imagine West Ham fans giving him the same support if they are relying on his performances in a relegation dogfight. Unless he hits the ground running he will get absolute pelters from the stands.

Wright has 18 months left on his contract. For west ham to take him from us this winter would take a bid well in excess of his actual value. Not sure Doug needs to sell, didn't we turn down about a large bid for Rudoni from Southampton in the summer and that was before our fantastic start to the season. Obviously Doug knows it would be a massive risk to let our main striker leave, even with other strikers performing well this season.

Having said that if Wright wants to leave and makes that clear to the club (perhaps he thinks to secure his world cup place by having a good half season in the Prem) would we rather take the money now or risk having a moody/disinterested Wright? We need him performing and up for all the matches to get us over the line

If West Ham are willing to fork over 25-30M for a 27 year old who’s performances fluctuate between incredibly good and incredibly bad, I trust Doug and Frank will make the right call and decide what’s best for our team’s future and sustainability. If they decide to cash in, I sincerely hope they have someone else already lined up.

Considering Vik went for £17.5m (initially), any bid of +£25m and I imagine Doug will even throw in a 50th Anniversary Shirt (#1/1975) for free.

Haji is a good Championship striker, but he isn’t even close to Gyokeres’ and is wildly inconsistent.
We have significantly greater bargaining power this time.

We had to sell Vik.

Hadji is good but not great he's not aggressive enough for his size. If he had more hunger in him he would be a beast

No chance he'll be sold in January and he wouldn't want to leave with it being World Cup year. Too difficult to find a replacement and too much disruption to the team and the way we play. And like people have said if we were to get promoted his value would increase.

His bargaining power is through the roof in the summer if a) we go up b) he was one of the leagues top scorers and c) he grabs a goal or two at the World Cup - that’s why he should stay in my completely unbiased humble opinion !

Think he played for Sunderland and Chelsea this season so can't play for another team other than them 2.

pretty sure at the end of the unseen Haji refers to playing another 100 games for the club after reaching his 100th last weekend, bit of a throw away comment but strange if you are actually being linked with and considering a January move.

If he was to go to say a West Ham in January, he would be playing in a potential relegation side, rather than a side pushing promotion to the Premier League. Any poor performances and the crowd would be on his back, and may affect his chance of a World Cup place. For this I say he's here until May

Said it on another thread he'd be absolutely insane to push for a move 6 months out from a world cup. Especially to a struggling Prem side. I don't know what he'd gain from not just waiting. I'd imagine his display for USA in the break before he got injured has him on the plane already bar a huge down turn. Why would he risk that by having to settle in to a new club and league. He didn't exactly burst out of the blocks here.

I'm not saying he won't push for a move but would be bad timing for us and him I reckon. Plus if he does get on the pitch and bag a goal at home world cup imagine the options he'd have then, why would he want to be stuck somewhere like West Ham.

We are in a strong position with Haji, even if he does want a move, and judging by his last 2 games I would say he doesn't want to leave. However. he is still widely regarded as a talent, and our best player. We'd make a profit if he left in Jan or the summer. And we all know he will probably come good soon and start scoring goals.
If a club offered £12-15 million in January, and we had a striker (say £10 million) lined up. A CF. A proper CF, like Simms can sometimes be then I'd cash in.
What if we put in a cheeky £12 million bid for Josh Sergeant?

Conservative valuations there I think?

No year in our favour?

I don't buy this being down to agitating for a move.

One way or another, Wright's going to be looking for a new contract in the summer.
It’s posturing in the media, 100%. Remember when Leeds were “interested” in Westbrook? Haji probably will want a new contract as will a few other players.

Haji Wright hasn’t scored since Sheff Wednesday away so not sure why West Ham would want to sign him is slightly odd. From our POV, we shouldn’t sell unless it’s a ridiculous offer because why unsettle a team that’s almost destined to be promoted this season?

The report also said West Ham were looking at Simms which just strikes me as lazy journalism.

He's not going to get to a top PL club so best case scenario is he goes to a team fighting relegation.

What would you rather? Be the first choice in the team at the top of the league who are creating a ton of chances for you with a good chance of promotion or a team battling relegation where you'll get far fewer chances and a strong possibility of being back in the championship next year.

I would think it would take a lot to persuade any of the current first team to leave in the January window.

The worry I have with this for people who might consider a deal of 25 to 30 million is, while it’s a shit ton of money, who do you bring in to replace him.

There aren’t many top goal scorers out there and even if you find one, you’d have to pay over the odds and hope they can hit the ground running in a new system, under a new coach and new team.

We shouldn’t be risking this opportunity to go up and as such no one should be allowed to leave in January

All of our front lines one or the other, sounds crazy.

Chances are, we could leapfrog West Ham so it would make zero sense for any of our players to agitate for a move to teams like West Ham, Wolves, Leeds or Burnley.

If these players get the job done, they will be Premiership players next season.

One of the less creditable rumours of recent times. Perhaps along with Balotelli. 😂

I could see why West Ham would want him, tbf. He's the quality to play at that level, I think, and all strikers go through peaks and troughs, so I don't think a minor drought would put a club off.

But to me it's not creditable because they know that they'd have to play massively over the odds for a key player from a promotion chasing team.

It was never a credible rumour, was it? Look at Westbrook's career after he left us.

Seriously, I wouldn't sell Haji Wright for a package worth less than £30m. I don't think he's worth that, but he's worth it to us because we'd have to buy a replacement desperately and promotion itself is worth £200m or so? Take any first team starter and add about £10m to their valuation now we're top in Jan and on the path to the Premiership. I don't think any of the players would want to leave this Jan in any case.
