If Haji stays and helps us get promoted he will almost certainly go to the World Cup. If he went to a West Ham and didn’t hit the ground running he could easily be over looked.

Agree. This agency move could be a response to 1) what happens if we DON'T get promoted and 2) he has a good World Cup run with hte USA, scores goals as sub in first game, starts secoond scores again etc etc. Plus if we DO go up won't there be a number of players looking for new contracts?

i have been wondering for a while if this is why lamps is still playing him upfront, because it helps with the discussion over a new contract. it's certainly not because that's where he's most effective.
he's shit in the air, needs too many touches of the ball, and can't hold off defenders.

When wright does something bad for us most of the time the crowd support him and chant his name. I remember Robins saying how important that was during his first season with us. I can't imagine West Ham fans giving him the same support if they are relying on his performances in a relegation dogfight. Unless he hits the ground running he will get absolute pelters from the stands.

Wright has 18 months left on his contract. For west ham to take him from us this winter would take a bid well in excess of his actual value. Not sure Doug needs to sell, didn't we turn down about a large bid for Rudoni from Southampton in the summer and that was before our fantastic start to the season. Obviously Doug knows it would be a massive risk to let our main striker leave, even with other strikers performing well this season.

Having said that if Wright wants to leave and makes that clear to the club (perhaps he thinks to secure his world cup place by having a good half season in the Prem) would we rather take the money now or risk having a moody/disinterested Wright? We need him performing and up for all the matches to get us over the line

Haji is a good Championship striker, but he isn’t even close to Gyokeres’ and is wildly inconsistent.

No chance he'll be sold in January and he wouldn't want to leave with it being World Cup year. Too difficult to find a replacement and too much disruption to the team and the way we play. And like people have said if we were to get promoted his value would increase.

His bargaining power is through the roof in the summer if a) we go up b) he was one of the leagues top scorers and c) he grabs a goal or two at the World Cup - that’s why he should stay in my completely unbiased humble opinion !

pretty sure at the end of the unseen Haji refers to playing another 100 games for the club after reaching his 100th last weekend, bit of a throw away comment but strange if you are actually being linked with and considering a January move.

If he was to go to say a West Ham in January, he would be playing in a potential relegation side, rather than a side pushing promotion to the Premier League. Any poor performances and the crowd would be on his back, and may affect his chance of a World Cup place. For this I say he's here until May

Said it on another thread he'd be absolutely insane to push for a move 6 months out from a world cup. Especially to a struggling Prem side. I don't know what he'd gain from not just waiting. I'd imagine his display for USA in the break before he got injured has him on the plane already bar a huge down turn. Why would he risk that by having to settle in to a new club and league. He didn't exactly burst out of the blocks here.

I'm not saying he won't push for a move but would be bad timing for us and him I reckon. Plus if he does get on the pitch and bag a goal at home world cup imagine the options he'd have then, why would he want to be stuck somewhere like West Ham.

However. he is still widely regarded as a talent, and our best player. We'd make a profit if he left in Jan or the summer. And we all know he will probably come good soon and start scoring goals.
If a club offered £12-15 million in January, and we had a striker (say £10 million) lined up. A CF. A proper CF, like Simms can sometimes be then I'd cash in.
What if we put in a cheeky £12 million bid for Josh Sergeant?
