Exactly. A real risk that the price will drop if someone plays hardball.

Yes, we do

The club need that money, so Robins can buy in enough players to replenish the squad

So what was the plan if Gyokeres broke his leg in the play offs?

Considering the amount of deadwood we have cleared, freeing up some decent wages from the budget; I would have more confidence in the clubs stance if they had already brought in a couple more out of contract players.

Even if they were young players with potential and only likely to be back up or on the bench. At least it would feel like we are starting to assemble a squad?

Of course in a few days time the picture could look different?

Spend within the clubs limitations

I have never thought we would be spending big money in this window but any deal with a fee would be structured that’s how it happens.

Which is what we’ll be doing if he stays.

That goes both ways though. Any player we buy for a fee would be structured

If he ends up staying and signing a contract elsewhere in January it’d be a disaster.

Agreed.

£20 million for Gyokeres, means £3 million for Brighton, of the remaining £17 million, say £3 million in clauses, leaving the bulk £14 million paid to the Sky Blues over 3-5 years, maybe less.

If we spend on a player, we would do something similar. Hamers fee was paid over a period of time.

But the club needs to have that money secured otherwise you just rack up debt. Again.

It would be bad business. I think disaster is a bit of an exaggeration

If the €18m offer was on the table last week it would have been worth £180k more then than it is now. Genius.

Go back to January

It also means they can offer more !

£18m vs £0 wouldn’t be a disaster? Plus the likely prospect of another player sale in January to raise money.

and get a bad reputation for the club for not letting top, young players move on. That might be even worse

You mean selling O’Hare in January?

Not sure we’d get much of any of our players other than him and Hamer.

If Vik stays he will I think sign an extension to his contract it would cost him a lot of money per week not to, could put a caveat in should a club bid a certain figure.
As for serious injury risk, why give out any contracts on that risk, it’s a bit of an occupational hazard unfortunately.

There is a crossover point where the club needs to sell Gyokeres in order to build a squad that is competitive. In doing so, we might be in a position where we don’t have to sell in January

Couldn’t stomach him going for free. The club will have fallen into a barrel of tits and emerged sucking its thumb.

He can literally perform how he wants and be better off for it, the club loses out. Obviously don’t back down easily, but don’t be so stubborn that it kills you.

I doubt the club would really get much for O'Hare now to be honest. Clubs aren't going to fork out a big fee for a player who's just come back from an ACL.

No, he won’t sign a new contract. That’s why he needs to be sold and before his price drops any further

He wont stay. We can’t afford him to stay.

The club can’t afford 8-10 new players without selling Gyokeres

So if he stays or let’s put it another way there are no concrete or acceptable offers on the table does that mean Doug King had been economical with the truth regarding his “we have no debt” statements.

You were the one that suggested there were weeks of the window left and that any hypothetical scenario within that framework was fine

The club will have a bottom value in mind and if that’s not met then we have to walk away.

I’m stating facts, there are weeks left. Not a hypothetical scenario where we’re selling at the last minute, and only have Godden on the books.
