How stupid of us to want one of the best players in the division (if he can get into shape and fit) who has proven to get G+A in the prem, if we can get him cheap? How stupid indeed

His legacy here is great already - let’s just remember him for the good times we had first time round rather than bring him back for an awkward reunion tour in the PL.

I'm not for Hamer coming back but not against the idea either. It would totally depend on which Hamer you get. The one like with us where he was shaped into a very good player, or there's the one constantly played out of position and isn't happy.

If he came back with his spark for playing for us it would be a top signing. But if he continues like now we could get better for the money.

He’s always been knackered at 70 minutes and it has been our/ sufc downfall. But now we seem to have a more professional approach to the whole game and we also have good players to come on, it may be less of a problem.

Then its a case of chaperoning him away from Nandos. He reminds me of Diego Maradonna in physique and his inclination to commit to whatever he’s doing…including food.

Guy is going to be 29 and has peaked in my opinion. He’s not looked after himself. He’s not the future of the club. We need to be looking at top upcoming talent that we can give playing time to and have huge re-sale value. The model we’ve adopted needs to continue but with higher calibre if we’re in the Prem.

unfortunately, i think you are right.
i'd love the peak hamer to come back, but his time spent at su has taken that from him. and it'd be too tough a road back.

It's been so long (George McCray)
that I'd forgotten him enough to think this was a hybrid of two names from our past, well for one of them at least.

If he really is one of the best there will be a queues around Sheffield’s ground to buy him

This won’t be a bidding war - it’s a New Years Day sale and still there will be no takers

I tend to agree. Hamer career is in decline. There maybe a relegation threatened PL team who might bid with the view he would be a 15-20 minute end of game substitute.
As for us....do we have time to get him fit enough to integrate into our team before the end of the season?

I just don’t see Lampard getting on with a player with such a casual approach to training and looking after himself.

I don't know why people keep banging on about Gus returning.
We sold him with Vic to build a great team.
We cannot afford to buy him back or pay his wages. Or O'Hare either. Both are on money that would break our wage structure. We may be top of the league and selling out the CBS, but the dynamic of how much we have to spend has not changed that much.
If we get promoted, then this discussion is more relevant, as we will have the money. However, Sheff U asking price remains too high, which is why Gus has not moved on before now.

No chance anyone would be suggesting him if he hadn't had the season he did for us in 22/23. Mad.

There seems to be a bit of an obsession with going back for former players.
It's not just us, I've heard supporters of other clubs saying the same.

Think its a comfort thing. You know what you are getting. Although in the case of Gus we'd be getting an older, fatter version.

If we’ve got the money Sheff Utd will want for their best player it won’t be spent on Hamer

Why would we get him cheap?
Why wouldn't Sheffield Utd want the best possible price for him?
Why would we pay millions for an unfit player who clearly isnt the player he was?
Why would we pay millions for a player who will be 29 in the summer?
Why would we smash our wage structure for a player who cant even last 90 minutes?

Stupid idea that won't happen.

He is good enough to play in the Premier League, let's be honest. His lack of professionalism and ambition have just let him down.

I reckon Lampard could get the best out of him, but I wonder if it is just a case of being too late. When Sheffield United got relegated he should have been on the first bus out of there, not necessarily the PL, but any other top European league. Instead he couldn't be fucked and has just stuck around and regressed. He looks terrible as well.

I would love to see him back but I am quite skeptical about this at the moment.

Got to agree with this, it's obvious Gus struggles with his weight but I'd back the current coaching staff to put him on the right path. He's never going to be a Ronaldo type playing into his 40s but surely if we could eek a couple of seasons out of him he'd be worth a punt

Nope, older less fit and not quite the player he was a season or so ago. We have better players already. Too many on here refuse to see that. The reason we are top is because we have some of the best players in this league playing for us!

Yes, but only to restrict SUFC’s scope for buying more players.
