His “points” are the ramblings of a school child - what does pension bribe even mean

People move to centrist politics when they grow up. Young people do by and large nit pay much tax, do not have to make big life changing decisions and can have a fun time doing a protest on a sunny day

Shouldn’t you be doing grown up things like telling people to crawl up arseholes?

People get richer as they get older. Their views become more socially conservative as time goes on. The ‘triple lock’ election promise for years was done to keep the OAP vote in tact.

Add in also that people are crap with political labels and that the policies that prefer don’t always align with their declared ideology.

seriously guys, there isn’t a conspiracy, this is really happening. Pull your heads out the sand.

You've been quite voiciferous on this thread. Which is a bit at odds with your 'Fuck the greenbelt' posts on another thread.
Because pulling up mature trees and hedgerows and whacking down a load of concrete for housing, is a sure fire way to slow climate change.
Anyway, I agree with clint. We are too far gone.
Personally think we need a global pandemic. Mother nature to shake off a few hundred million fleas.

Not really. The Green Belt is about keeping house prices up for people, not about the environment. I believe that green spaces and sustainable building should be used throughout towns and cities. Our biggest climate issue with housing isn’t the tress we lose it’s the shoddy standards of energy efficiency.

I think we should be doubling tree cover as well, but again that’s nothing to do with green belt.

We need to start with the big stuff. Energy generation, Transport, trees. We aren’t even starting to tackle those, waffling about Veganism or green belts is frankly small beer.

I personally have contributed to Global warming by cutting down three large trees on my property.
One fell on my house in a storm. Cost ten thousand dollars to repair the damage and have the tree taken away.
Another contracted a disease and turned brown. My homeowner's association said I had to cut it down otherwise they would fine me.
Cost two thousand dollars to have it removed.
The third one died of old age or maybe lack of water; the city said it was an eyesore and I had to cut it down or be fined.
Cut that one down myself with a hand saw piece by piece over several months.
I did plant one replacement tree, it took six years to grow three feet tall, then it died.
Trees use huge amounts of water. I live in the desert so it's a precious resource.
Most of the rivers and many of the lakes in my state are dry because the water has been siphoned off for agriculture.

Funny you say that about the desert when you look at what China are doing:

Fair play to her, although I have to admit it’s uncomfortable viewing (I read recently she has aspergers which whilst making me feel a sense of pride for her, also makes me feel putting her on a platform to debate such a significant issue isn’t quite right). She has certainly shone a brighter light on the subject which is a good thing though.

Change needs to happen, but to ignore the great strides countries are already making is wrong. For example look at the amount of energy we and a lot of the western world now generate from non fossils. Compare it to the 80s and 90s. As is mentioning short term extinction (where there is little proof) - if you’re a kid growing up and hearing that, is that right/fair ???

This problem won’t necessarily be solved by governments alone, it will be down to personal responsibility. If everyone did the following then it would help:

Reduced flights.
Reduce energy consumption - stop using so much tech, get outside, be more active.
Reduce use of car/vehicles...walk and cycle more (I would say move to electric vehicles, which I’m considering, but I do worry that they could end up being the next ‘diesel’)
Reduce meat consumption
Recycle and re-use - we are a throw away society, people don’t fix things, they just buy a new one.
Consider where the products you buy are made and how.

Unsurprisingly a lot of the above will also lead to a healthier lifestyle (body and mind)

Now if all the kids on the marches are doing the above, then fair play but I’d imagine many don’t and would rather just say governments/old people sort this out ! No, this is everyone’s issue to deal with !

Ps I have to admit whilst I try to do some of the above, I’m not perfect by any stretch !

And Obama before he did anything.

just think it cheapens it. It’s not supposed to be Man of the Year or whatever. I bet someone we’ve never heard of has been doing some cracking actual peacemaking and deserves a shout.

It's just like Rear Of The Year.

The winner doesn't actually have the best rear, they just pick them because they're famous. It's not fair.

So do you think they’re doing the right thing,Stopping people going about their daily lives trying to earn a living maybe stopping a fire engine or ambulance on an emergency?
Or even worse an Islamic terrorist attack?
Shame on them!!!
That’s my point of view

This point was raised on the radio earlier but it turned out the emergency services are actually passing through the area quicker as the protesters are clearing a path for them which they can pass through quicker than the normal level of congestion.
