He is ambivalent about CCFC, but he hates SISU.

So much so, he tried to phone CWR yesterday to say as much but he wasn't allowed on!

No disrespect, but it isn't whether we want or don't want a God. The question is: IS there a God? 2 different questions.

God is the theological equivalent to North Korea (Christopher Hitchens).

That's Peter who writes for the DailyMail, and is a traditional Christian also.

Christopher Hitchens is one of the great philosophers of our time, sadly died last year, a bit of a contrarian at times, but a rational, human man.

Has exposed many of the hypocrisies of religion, and those who follow them. /You should read what he had to say about "Saint" Mother Theresa.

Would recommend you read: The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Non-Believer, and God is Not Great: How Religion poisons everything.

If that was the case, why have they turned out completely different. In saying that, Peter used to be a member of the Socialist Workers' Party, now is RW, very traditionalist and a twat. His brother died a legend. RIP Christopher!

Peter hitchens wouldn't describe himself as right wing and in fact sides with liberty on a lot of issues

Regarding his views on the welfare state I fully agree with him and so will you when you see £20,000 going in income tax.

He's a conservative so he's right wing in his leanings, he's, at a minimum, paternalistic Tory. He keeps quiet on economics, I haven't seen much, but he seems to quite RW in that, favouring monetarism. Socially he's RW, believing multiculturalism has failed, I disagree. Education, he's RW, favours grammar and private schools.

The Welfare State, an interesting one, I think if we go into figures, benefits appears to be high, but, if you live of that, it's barely enough to survive. The Welfare State is a capitalist reaction (especially giving the times they were created) and there is no need for it if full employment is achieved, which cannot be achieved in a capitalist society, the USSR achieved full employment so didn't need a welfare state.

Oh I agree on his views on education as well. I agree with grammar schools. How many labour prime ministers with a working class background do you think would ever have made it under a comprehensive "lets all fail together unless you are rich and privileged" system?

Well, you and Peter are wrong, Finland have the best education system without private or grammar schools.

Which is why we now have a Labour Party made up of the upper middle-class, for the upper middle-class, as are all the big three.

The chances of a decent Labour Party that stood for what it was brought into being for died with John Smith unfortunately, and Tory Plan B was elected Labour Leader.

Which is of course why Finland is at the centre of world economic affairs.

The grammer school educated Shirley Williams introduced comprehensive education whilst sending her own brood to grammer schools.

Of all the labour politicians who have made it to the front bench I am aware of only one who was educated at his local comprehensive. Why is that do you think?

Even the bastion of the left I believe (have not got my computer in sight so can only speculate) John Crudas sent his children to a achieving state school nowhere near his catchment area. Other ministers of education Diane Abbott, Harriet Harman - well actions really spoke louder than words.

New Labour are not the bastions of the Left! Britain's parties have become all 'fat liberals' (to take Lennon's phrase) I'd rather us be like France, adverse politics > consensus politics everyday. The HoC is full of middle-class Oxbridge grads, so protect their classes' interests. Gone are the days when the HoC was a clash between the classes (upper-class Tories v working-class Labour v the rest).

I'm talking about a former prime minister who preceded over Williams' tenure at education. Oh dear have you never heard of him?

Well, Shirely Williams was on the right of the Labour Party, part of the faction that split into the Social-Democratic party. She was a neo-liberal. Quick search on the Internet and cross-referencing my Politics folder, I know who she is now and the Scoial-Democratic Party. Now I've got to search the other lot up.

No, it's out of my time by 30-odd years.

Ok, Benn was on the left with Foot, so was Callaghan and Wilson. But I don't get you're point because you were on about New Labour politicians (Abbott + Crudas) and Shirley Williams who is now a Liberal-Democrat? All neo-Liberals.

The bottom line is, Finland have the best education system, and the CBI suggests we should use that model which would increase economic growth by 1% per year.
