there is nothing worse than religious or heathen folk taking themselves serious but my god is a ccfc fan so there. im not intelligent like u guys so i bow to your superior knowledge. at the end of the day i would rather live in a world WITH a God than with one without one.

If that was the case, why have they turned out completely different. In saying that, Peter used to be a member of the Socialist Workers' Party, now is RW, very traditionalist and a twat. His brother died a legend. RIP Christopher!
Peter hitchens wouldn't describe himself as right wing and in fact sides with liberty on a lot of issues

He's a conservative so he's right wing in his leanings, he's, at a minimum, paternalistic Tory. He keeps quiet on economics, I haven't seen much, but he seems to quite RW in that, favouring monetarism. Socially he's RW, believing multiculturalism has failed, I disagree. Education, he's RW, favours grammar and private schools.
The Welfare State, an interesting one, I think if we go into figures, benefits appears to be high, but, if you live of that, it's barely enough to survive. The Welfare State is a capitalist reaction (especially giving the times they were created) and there is no need for it if full employment is achieved, which cannot be achieved in a capitalist society, the USSR achieved full employment so didn't need a welfare state.
Oh I agree on his views on education as well. I agree with grammar schools. How many labour prime ministers with a working class background do you think would ever have made it under a comprehensive "lets all fail together unless you are rich and privileged" system?

Well, you and Peter are wrong, Finland have the best education system without private or grammar schools.

The grammer school educated Shirley Williams introduced comprehensive education whilst sending her own brood to grammer schools.
Of all the labour politicians who have made it to the front bench I am aware of only one who was educated at his local comprehensive. Why is that do you think?
Even the bastion of the left I believe (have not got my computer in sight so can only speculate) John Crudas sent his children to a achieving state school nowhere near his catchment area. Other ministers of education Diane Abbott, Harriet Harman - well actions really spoke louder than words.
New Labour are not the bastions of the Left! Britain's parties have become all 'fat liberals' (to take Lennon's phrase) I'd rather us be like France, adverse politics > consensus politics everyday. The HoC is full of middle-class Oxbridge grads, so protect their classes' interests. Gone are the days when the HoC was a clash between the classes (upper-class Tories v working-class Labour v the rest).
