As I've said on this forum time and time again,I have no problem with anyone coming to this country to work and have a better standard of living for them and their family. I do have a problem with boat loads of mostly young men illegally trying to gain access though. They claim they're fleeing this that and the other,if so where are the women and children? I dont trust them as I'm sure the majority of the public dont either. We dont know who they are or what they're carrying. If you cant see the difference between the two then god help you.
You cant compare the likes of my family, hills, sick boys etc as they entered this country legally and through the correct channels. As far as I'm aware my mums family never claimed a penny off the state unlike a lot of the work shy who live here.
Back on topic now anyway....

And so they can be. Pretty disgusting not to let people have their say first, before deciding otherwise. Who wants to risk their lives on unseaworthy vessels, be close to starvation, and be terrified where they end up.

And in so doing, before giving them their chance to say what they're doing, you're doing exactly the racial profiling you're claiming to hate.

Dont agree. Sorry.
Why dont they go to the 1st safe country then instead of risking their lives at sea?
Women and children on boats? I hardly see any.
Not getting into this bollocks with you. I'll never agree with you. If your type got your way youd have every man and his dog in the country.

My wife was telling me she saw a meme of Dominic Cummings. One half is a picture of Cummings with a slogan that “it’s only right someone does everything that they can for their family”, the other half is a picture of a dinghy full of asylum seekers with the slogan “not that”.

You have gone further than that with your talk of multi cultural shitholes. You say you’re different because your family came to work hard but you don’t know any of the people you’re slagging off or why they come. That’s the whole problem.

I've known some asylum seekers. It annoys me (understatement) on their behalf when people suggest they're making it up. I suggest people look at the soles of their feet after they've been burned systematically with lighters before being made to walk across the parched ground, glass littered on it, before judging. They can be qualified doctors, architects etc in their own country, and find themselves working 60+ hours in menial jobs to feed their family.

And they're the ones who'll tell you what a great country Britain is for giving them sanctuary, for accepting them... for saving them. So for god's sake don't let that change, let me continue to be proud in a country that helps those who need it. I remember the (mildest) of rebukes I gave to Blair's government in front of one. he turned to his girlfriend and said 'see? This is what you can do here, you're allowed your own thoughts without fear.'

Some won't be genuine, but you still have to ask what kind of world we live in where people will risk life and limb to flee their home.Don't punish the desperate for the needy, don't condemn the needy for wanting what we take for granted.

Britain is a great country, and we should fight to keep that greatness. its greatness isn't willy waving and nationalism, it's acceptance, tolerance, support, and a desire to lift people up not to break them down. We can't lose that.

(Anyway, apologies as it's heading off topic now, I'm out as they say!)

Terrible what's going on in the USA. I do get uneasy when protests then start up in our country, fuelled by, and attended by, agitators who just want to attack the 'establishment' regardless of the cause. Ask a lot of them what they want, and I'm not convinced they could tell you - they are just angry, and nothing would appease them. I think it's more about being a part of something, as they don't fit in elsewhere. I know it's not a one size fits all scenario, just find those in that category disturbing. Obviously support anti racism stance 100%.

Yup, Harry and how sad to see where we are right now. It clearly should be "All lives matter" and it is very embarrassing that in 2020 we still have to somehow try to get black treated the same way as white and have a "Black lives matter" slogan campaign.

I have to say i don't understand the "Take The Knee" solidarity campaign.
It originally kicked off last year when the NFL players chose to kneel instead of standing and singing the national anthem at the start of every game, in protest against (IIRC) the nation being institutionally racist.
So what is the significance for players in Germany, Liverpool or Newcastle in doing so, and what do they hope to achieve?
Can someone explain (and sorry if i missed this in earlier posts)?

Agree entirely, but given the way our govt has treated the pandemic we need a black and old lives matter.

Do you understand what a 'wet lettuce' means? It means someone who's meek and doesn't stand up for themselves. So basically you want them to bully people.

But again. A white militia man turned up armed to the teeth to have a go at protestors and the y just told him to go home.
Rather than pushing over unarmed 'wet lettuces' they'd be better off stopping the Dylan Roofs of this world.

Antifa aren't killing people no matter how much of a nuisance they are.
Far right physcos are. And they're beginning to do it with impunity.

I'm all for the intervention into racism, whether that is policing or in general society.

I must say though, some of the actions of people I don't think is helping the cause. Neither is margilasing people by race and causing what is in my view, is more segregation.

I can understand the rhetoric behind black lives matter, but those who shoot down the 'all lives matter' crew need to have a think.

Those people won't be won over by being told that they are a guilty race. Even if it is not meant to come across like that, it does sometimes. I've used the same argument about feminism but it applies here too. You don't win over sexist people by telling them they should support a women's movement.

If we are all equal then that's what we need to see. I for one almost lost my job in a supermarket when I was a student because a customer racially abused one or my colleagues and left her in tears. I punched the c**t and I never saw him come back again.

In hindsight that was wrong, but I think the core of society can be educated. I would like to see a bit more unity and maturity and that's the approach I would take if it happened now as I've grown up a bit.

It might be easy for me to say, and I'm not here to try and cause outrage. I just don't think this will do much to stop it.

Violence from police etc won't stop, they'll just be a bit more careful about getting caught.

The reason there's a black lives matter is because this disproportionately happens to black people in the States.

You've seen the videos on this thread and elsewhere of white people parading around with all sorts of weapons and the police letting them get away with it yet black people have been shot dead doing all sorts of innocuous things.
That's why they have to have a black lives matter. Ive got to be honest, I'm surprised you need it explaining to you.

I think my post was very reasonable and respectful, but as we see with debate these days, it transcends into 'I'm surprised it needs explaining to you'. I don't think that's really fair.

I'm coming from the point of view that the people that need to be won over are the racists themselves. So, how do you do this? I understand the protests etc, but I just don't think it goes any further to help the cause.

You might not be able to win over racists,But you can stop putting them in your police force and you can prosecute them when they assault or kill someone.

If protesters don't protest then what else can they do? What your suggesting is accept this shit show by the sound of it.

Start at the top. They've got a racist President and we've got a racist Prime Minister, not a surprise then that racists feel they can be more out in the open.

A lot of the base issues are under the ultimate control of government. Start by eliminating racism in the police, zero tolerance. Then move into other areas that government largely controls, housing, access to education etc.

Antifa dont stand up for themselves. They are bullys . They're just a bunch of cowards who are out to cause trouble in groups. I bet one on one the majority of them would shit themselves and run off. I bet the real protestors over there dont want these middle class white kids jumping on their cause. It just devalues the whole thing for me but I guess you know that all along.

Middle aged white men (of which I'm one) are great at telling people what they should and shouldn't do in response to things they've never actually experienced.

White privilege is knowing where your ancestors come from.

I’ve gone back 300 years on the Irish Scottish side of my family. My mums side? Stops at my grandfather who didn’t even have his own surname. The DNA test I did suggests originally from Nigeria, Congo & Southern Bantu people, or Benin & Togo. Most of which aren’t the real names of the areas even. I’ve got actual pictures of birth certificates and places the other side.

I could go on.

Colin Kaepernick mounted a peaceful protest and the president of his country called him a son of a bitch, at some point people realised they weren't being listened to

Not everyone’s doing that are they? When you get mass protests you get trouble makers. What should either side do about it?
