Come on now this is just silly. The guy is an absolutely terrible commentator. It’s like the commentary is an afterthought...he can’t seem to multi task and watch the game as well as commentate. He says the wrong names all the time, he never finishes his sentences, he’s boring and his voice makes me want to sleep. He’s wet and has zero confidence and his interview questions are even more embarrassing, even Robins just takes the mic.

Everything he says pisses me off.

I literally can’t see how he can have a job as a commentator when he has none of the skills required??

He is dreadful!! Anyone remember when we played Crystal Palace, and they didn't know what the score was, they scored but thought it was disallowed, so they were saying it was one score, SSN was saying another score. Clowns!

Eakin interchanged Nuneaton Town and Nuneaton Borough. Leamington were 2 nil up against 'Bradford City' at one point.

I have met Geoff and he's a good bloke but can't help but feel they're counting down to retirement

Afternoon Clive.

Rarely listen to the commentary but do listen to the phone in when the interviews take place.
Some of the questions are so poor and show a lack of research and understanding of what the fans actually want to know.

Robins either takes the piss or gets frustrated.

If you can't be botherd to do your job properly just cash in and move on . No one will blame you , just take a nice little back room job and let someone else have a go .

Yeah it’s absolitely not an attack on his character I’m sure he’s a great person but the fact is he is dog shit at commentating and his job is to commentate.
I have spoken to Geoff in person and he is a thoroughly decent chap, he is obviously having health problems and I think CWR are just being loyal to him.

Thing is, he's most likely paid in excess of £35-£40k a year. And given a travel allowance. To follow city home and away, week in week out. Find me a single fan on here that wouldn't give an arm for that opportunity! And find me a fan on here that couldn't do a better job with their eyes closed.
I'm not making an attack at the person, but the commentator. He's useless at his job. Don't think he's ever been great at it tbf. He bumbles his interviews, sounds more enthusiastic/excited when the other team are on the attack, continuously gets names/teams/places/scores wrong.

Yep.

I know him too. My brother used to know him very well.

Shame, but there is a job to done at the end of the day and it should be as professional as is possible.

Surely he'd be classed as a sports journalist?? Think at entry level you'd be looking at least £20k. He's been in the business years so surely must be somewhere in that region. And you say part time, he/the team also comentate on W***s, Cov Rugby, The Bears, blaze, bees. Then the phone 3 times a week.

Think you're all being a bit mean on our Geoff. Cov kid, ex Cov rugby player so i believe. Coventry thru and thru. As i've said before he has struggled after his stroke but personally i still prefer him over err winchy. Clive has got better ( yes yes i know he gets confused sometimes !) and gets well excited when commentating. I remember going mad at the radio when Clive started coz he kept fecking it up but now i learnt to chill when listening.

Your right very nice person, but solely out of his depth. Some of the questions post match were embarrassing. As someone mentioned in an earlier post Robins takes the piss out of him.

I know he is sky blue through and through, But needs to be given other role or pensioned off. He is making himself a laughing stock.

That has absolutely nothing to do with his ability as a commentator.

At the end of the day he’s really shit at his job and it’s at the point now where it makes me cringe listening to the game on or watching on ifollow.

People keep mentioning his stroke and that is absolutely awful and tragic....but at the end of the day if he can’t do his job properly regardless of whether that’s the reason, someone else should be given it.

They had a player called Piggott like the jockey, not difficult to pronounce really.
Wimbledon player's spelling is Pigott, so commentator was correct! My auntie married a Pigott - they always pronounced it as in 'Life of Pi'. That said, Foster is awful!! Sympathy for his health problems but he's not up to it and never was! My father in law only listens to matches and has been grumbling about him for years.

I think you'd be looking at way less than that for an entry-level journalist, unfortunately. Haven't the Club advertised for a Club Journalist in the last few years starting on £13k or something ridiculous? Unfortunately sports journalism (same with music and film) is one of those where the love of the job often means that you get hit with horrendous pay. I was a music journalist at one of the biggest publishing companies in Europe and when I left a couple of years back, having been there for 6 years, my pay still hadn't hit £20k.

Eaken and Foster are a joke and are the Laurel and Hardy of the airwaves. You're just waiting for errors and slip ups, if you wait long enough just like buses one or two will turn up. Yes they may be nice blokes, but they get worse week by week, so a change is needed !

'hit'. 'music journalist'.

Was that deliberate? ;)

Foster is and always was abysmal. Nice bloke he maybe, but needed to be shown the door years ago. Eakin I don’t mind and at least can commentate on a game and to be fair to him will stick to his guns and argue his point rather than just bumble along like Foster does.

I'm not sure on the legalities of somebody talking about a game they're watching and have paid for with their friends.
