Didnt inter milan have r9 and christian vieri upfront together
I think you are right, although i think Ronaldo was injured for a lot of it. Vieri held the world record transfer fee for a very small amount of time i believe, from memory Crespo took that title soon after but i could be wrong.

Football is different now , but the 20 years between 1990 and 2010 were pretty spectacular for me
I agree. English football being a powerhouse benefits my club, i believe we benefit from being in the strongest second division in the world and i believe if we get promoted it will completely revolutionise our club. Ultimately Coventry City is my number 1 love so that's good, i guess. I cannot pretend that i care for the sport outside of CCFC like i used to though. I don't have much interest, it's just a bit shit...

This is me. I'm completely disillusioned with football and its governance.

If it wasn't for a deep-seated support for a club, I'd pay it no attention at all any more.
Absolutely. If CCFC stopped existing tomorrow the sport would be a complete irrelevance to me. I still like to stay educated on it, I like reading up on players and stuff that are doing well in crappy foreign leagues because I'm a sad act but thats mainly because I like to know what's out there for us!

Despite England getting to the later stages of tournaments more often my interest in them has fallen off too. Basically the excitement's gone from the game in general, aside from CCFC.

I'm the same, in the 90s and 2000s I could probably reel off the starting lineup of most teams in the Premier League and around us, now I could barely name more than 2/3 players from each

I was in a pub recently with a mate and we were talking about Euro 96 and specifically the England vs Holland match.

We then had a go at naming both squads for the tournament and I think there was 2 in each we missed.

Similar - couldn't do the same nowadays with national squads or like you, EPL teams.

The first tournament I can remember that, a good introduction to what supporting England is like!

The best mate. Take me back. I have absolutely zero interest in it these days until around the semi final, I've not even bothered to try and understand that mess of a group stage.

My Virgin Media package is up for renewal soon and part of my negotiation is likely to be binning off TNT Sports. Only had it included for CL but I’ve not watched any at home for probably over a year.

Waste of money mate. Can always find a dodgy stream if you do fancy watching a game anyway.

It was my 16th birthday on the day England beat Spain in the QF. I watched it in a pub on Tottenham High Rd near White Hart Lane with my dad. Even being a N.Irishman (boy then), I was cheering.

What a fucking time that was.

96 was Peak 👌🏻

Reminiscing about 90s football i always think of those Parma teams; Buffon, Cannavaro, Thuram, Crespo, Ortega, Veron etc.

How's a fairly middling club like that getting hold of teams like that? Massive financial fraud it turns out but still, what an era 🤣

Like everyone has said, football was better then and far more evenly balanced. We have what, 6 engliah teams in the last 16? In the 90s you Red Star Belgrade win the bloody thing.

In fairness, it’s entirely possible that a Norwegian team is going to make the quarter finals this year.

Rocked up to the Portugal v Czech Republic quarter final at that tournament and paid on the gate.

Couldn't do that any more.

It was at Villa, but I don't remember much sexy football. Mainly Portugal passing it around in front of the Czech defence.

It was the Poborsky lob game.

Yeah it was the game where Ruud Gullit was in the bbc studio and said he was hoping for some sexy football - where the phrase was born.
