In hindsight we never should have signed Woolfenden and just stuck with Lati. I was always very doubtful of us signing Woolf and it turns out he’s no better than what we’ve got and we’ve spent £4.5m on him.

Our defence needs a good overhaul

The base squad without sales begins:
GK: Dovin, Wilson
DF: MVE, KKH, DaSilva, Brau, Thomas, Kitching, Latibeudiere, Woolfenden, Bidwell
MD: Grimes, Onyeka, Torp, Eccles. Rudoni, Andrews
ATT: EMC, Sakamoto, Markhelo, Simms, BTA, Wright

Allen out of contract, so we’re assuming he won’t be renewed, leaves us 23 players with Onyeka signed.

you’d think if Saddles is correct Wilson and Bidwell are likely to attract bids, I’m thinking likely outs permanently or loan
Bidwell
Wilson
Brau
Andrews

that leaves around 6 players, which given the possible outs would need
GK x2
LB
CB
MC

then you’d think a RW?

I’d be concerned at that squad, we definitely have to see 2/3 more sales as a bare minimum.

Hadn’t thought about Wilson, so maybe one more there. I was thinking:

GK/GK/Dovin
MvE/KKH
LB/Dasilva
CB/CB/Thomas/Kitching
CM(Onyeka)/Grimes
CM/Eccles/Torp
Rudi/AM
RW/Saka or Markelo
EMC/LW
ST/Wright/Simms

That’s 11, can maybe get away with one less at AM/RW/LW and keep BTA as theyre positions players can play in multiple and maybe one less CB or CM at a stretch.

It does but we will get our money back on Woolf / loan him to a top champ side

As I posted in the other thread, you’ve got to start with a goalkeeper and centre forward. If you don’t nail those two positions you are wasting your money buying others as cannot carry those two positions in the prem. Wright on his day can do a job, Simms and BTA are not good enough. Look what difference Calvert Lewis has made, it’s pure folly to think we can compete without adding a prem quality centre forward.

Two really. Would say we will keep Haji and will then need a proven, older head striker, a Chris Wood type player possibly and then a young prospect to develop.

Andrews will still be classed as an U21 so if Lampard wants to keep him around and available he can. I'm not saying he will or should, but it's an option.

On the other hand, Luke Bell is now a senior player (currently unregistered) and needs to be loaned out to get experience.

There’s gonna be a lot of outs and I can see them early. You’d think Bidwell and Woolfenden are strong contenders to being let go, potentially see Markhelo loaned out

Surely there was good loan options available. Doubt Perry was ready for us as an option

Wasn't the talk/rumours at the time that Doug didn't want loans, perhaps that was the factor? Glad he was persuaded with the Tank and also Esse (to a degree) came good.
