Transfer Rumour Frank Onyeka (54 Viewers)

Loan with an obligation if promoted would be ideal imo.

If we go up we are going to need proven premiership experience. Lad looks to have that and is a much needed profile in our squad.

Generally I am in favour of the Onyeka signing but there are plenty of other possibilities to give us that PL experience should we make it. Mario Lemina, for example, is out of contract at Galatasaray.

Lemina has a terrible attitude and really disrupted the dressing room at Wolves.

But we are linked with every player what makes this fella a better bet so clearly there is no grounds for this rumour - no facts just conjecture 😁

Let’s get it done so people on here can chill out a bit.

AFCON is over, Nigeria finished 3rd so there should be no impediment to the signing now assuming terms can be agreed.

One thing I have noticed is that many players divulge their feelings more often when they are speaking to their national press, Vik often did it. I think this is the most relevant piece we have had on this situation, thus far.

He gave this interview with a Nigerian sports journalist just a few days back. Some pretty interesting stuff in there including a preference for staying in England

Championship club coached by Chelsea legend nailed-on favourites to sign Super Eagles Afcon star Onyeka

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Championship table-toppers Coventry City are nailed-on favourites to sign Nigeria international Frank Onyeka ahead of the January transfer deadline day.
Onyeka put himself in the shop window following a string of impressive performances for the Super Eagles at the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured in four matches.
The Sky Blues are poised to pull off a major transfer coup by luring Onyeka to the Coventry Building Society Arena, beating competition from the likes of Valencia and Sheffield United for the signature of the industrious midfielder.
Coventry City are managed by legendary former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, and Onyeka believes he can further develop his game by working under the England legend, drawing on the coach’s experience at the highest level.
Lampard's side currently top the Championship table with 58 points from 28 matches ahead of tonight's trip to Norwich City.
Ahead of Onyeka’s potential move to Coventry City, he was omitted from Brentford's Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest, with the club opting to rest him to minimise the risk of injury following his return from AFCON duty.
Signed from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2021, Onyeka remains under contract with Brentford until June 2027.

Watching the Pompey game was admiring Abou Adams as the type of player we should go for. I’m hoping this bloke would be similar but better ie strong, tough tackling, all over the place and with a modicum of skill. Basically someone to brutalise the opposition.

Only negative about him seems to be his passing ability, with grimes or Eccles next to him who could really give a fuck. Main thing is someone who can win us the ball back and put some grit into the cm position

yeah but I suppose he just needs to keep it simple when he gets it and let the playmakers do their thing

I find it hard to believe we don't have the money to get this done and more (if required) frankly. We absolutely had money left in the pot at the end of the summer window even before we sold Sheaf for a further £6.5 million. Just fucking do it. Hoping they have half on eye on a decent LB too tbh. Quite interested to see if any fringe players move out this week.

This would be a real statement signing, and if it happens you'd have to give Doug massive credit for backing Frank with 3 top quality signings in the areas where we were light.

They'd be no excuses for Frank not getting us over the line now.

We will wait and see.

I think we will get a CM in at most, wouldn't be surprised to see nothing.

Wages will be the problem won’t they?

I imagine he must be on more than 30k. If it’s a permanent deal are we prepared to make him our highest earner by some way on a long deal?

They shouldn't really be an issue, sometimes you just have to go for it if you want to get over the line. Smartest thing is to offer the best we can and then an increase upon promotion (which given our position sounds more attractive and realistic than if most other teams offered it.) Just about all of our players wages will increase upon promotion i would imagine.
