3k minutes across 5 seasons and being hawked around the Championship would suggest he is.
doesn't mean he failed though. Just because he doesn't feature regularly for an established premier league team doesn't mean he wouldn't be great for us. He's got top level experience, for me it's a no brainer

We only need a gritty, midfield dog fight of a player to get us into the Prem!!!!!! After that is pure speculation where this team will go and who will join.

This is true, although maybe he'll miss another game if it clashes with his court date, if our Analysis friend is to be believed 👀
Ah yes, the bloke who's given up on providing subpar analysis and traded it in for subpar allegations against first team players.

To each his own there, I prefer the per 90 particularly in a league with a well defined winter break like the Bundesliga so you get good comparison to those who arrived in January on top of those playing similar roles who get rotated either during or between games.

I agree taking the overall numbers it's good and aside from the data, he brings physicality and energy to a midfield that doesn't have much of both. It would make a lot of sense.
The point about him being at a relegation level team is pertinent here.

On a per 90 basis, Ponticelli is our best striker over the last decade, that’s worth pondering on. On per 90 measurements there’s more room for statistical anomalies to show up.

I don't care if he's good enough for Brentford in the Premier League, I care if he's good enough to get us over the line in the Championship.

If he is, then he's worth whatever we pay for him.
Brentford are also 7th in the league and if we go up, we just need a squad who can finish 17th. He’s obviously good enough to help us get to the Prem.

We need to assume we’re going down and will need to sell everyone we can really. I’m just iffy about taking failed PL players on long contracts.

We don’t know the terms yet. In any case, there will be churn in the summer so if we can get a player in now to help get us up and they play a peripheral role in the Prem, it’s best to do the deal.

He’s been a role player at Brentford for 2-3 seasons who have stayed up quite comfortably. He doesn’t add resale value per se but he adds value to the squad.

I don’t think it’s an iffy contract either, it’s not like he’s on 60-80k a week which probably what we’ll be paying new signings in the summer.

I understand that you need to take care by filtering out those who've played below a certain number of minutes. Possibly crossing wires here anyway, I agree he'd be a welcome addition.

He started 30 games in the Bundesleague last season you clown
It’s quite funny that no batted an eyelid when it came to us signing 29 year old Grimes for £4m last season. An extra £3m for proven Prem talent, just makes sense.

No one would dispute that Grimes has added to our squad so much because we needed a player who can control games. Now, we need athleticism and a ball winner which Onyeka is and he’s coming off a good spell on AFCON.

Pound for pound Grimes is the best player we have brought in for over 15 years.

That’s exactly my point… so an extra £3m for a proven top division player is going to be good value.

No one batted an eyelid at signing Grimes because we all knew it was what the team needed. His age, wages or resale value were irrelevant precisely because it made us a better team.

We desperately need some defensive pace in the team. The ability to cover opposition breaks. This guy doesn't doesn't do that does he?

Yeah now. They weren’t when they signed him they were newly promoted.
But he still played plenty of minutes in that first season. A season, i might add, they finished 16th and avoided relegation. Something that could be invaluable to us next season is the difference of a player thats got the stripes, or Jamie Allen?

Jamie Allen wouldn’t play in the prem anyway

No i agree, but it still makes the same point. Even if hes only a squad player in the PL, thats what hes done for 4 seasons for Brentford. And those 4 seasons, by all accounts, have been very successful. So to call him a failed PL player is ridiculous!

Well it’s not Onyeka vs Allen is it, it would be Onyeka vs another new signing.
Well unless someone can suggest someone more suitable for half a season promotion push and then a first year in the Prem then it’s currently Onyeka vs Allen
