I think season we will see about 3/4 teams trying to get that 2nd spot. And thwy will be close. Can see 3/4 teams finshing on 78/83 pts. 2nd place 8mid eighties and winners 90 plus.

Play off will be minimum 75 points really high this year and an almighty battle.

Its in our advantage as we got points on the board.

Im looking from point of view of third place team..currently Millwall.

Cant see them getting 1.93 ppg to get to 85 points. Not on their current form.

Everyone else practically 2ppg and above.

Thats not even taking into consideration goal difference.

So basically 1.5ppg will get us to 85 points which will undoubtedly be enough for 2nd spot.
I'm starting to think more and more that 85 might do it. I just don't see any of the non-parachute teams getting close.

That leaves Ipswich who I still think will. Leicester who are a basket case with a deduction pending, and then Southampton. They need 2.2 ppg from here after averaging 1.3 so far. I just don't see it.

Its mad to think that 1.5 from here would give us a real chance of automatics.

I don't think any team in the division will win 11 out of 12 games, so what we have achieved so far is incredible. We have to pick up only 1 point from 5 games and 2 other teams win all 5 of their games for us to drop out of the top 2. That's very unlikely to happen.

West Brom and Bournemouth had similar starts to us and they were poor for the second half of the season and both still finished 2nd. We have a huge head start and it will take something extraordinary for us to not finish in the top 2.

I think we need the form and PPG of 14th place for the rest of the season to go up automatically.

On current run rates, we would be mathematically promoted by around GW 38. That is at the end of March.

Imagine how amazing April would be, going into ever game knowing we're already promoted but still with the title to aim for

Updated.

Of the 'challengers' all bar Middlesbrough and Millwall need to perform at a minimum of a 99 point season from here on to reach 90 points.

If we believe the bookies, Ipswich are expected to be our biggest challengers. They need 2.17 ppg from here compared with our 1.68 to hit 90.

For those worried about Southampton they'd probably have to win 21/22 of their last 28 to make that milestone.

not just that, but all the other teams need to perform at a better PPG (to hit either the 90 or 85 points) than they have to-date. We are the only club that can afford to average less PPG. Incredible!

Every team bar us and Middlesbrough need to be knocking out the equivalent of at least a 101 point season from here to reach 90. Ipswich need to be at 103 point form, Southampton at 110. We need to be at 79 point form (equiv. of 13 wins, 4 draws, 8 defeats).

For 85 points everyone bar the top 2 need to be averaging at least 2ppg. We need 1.52 (equiv. of 11 wins, 5 draws, 9 defeats).

Not sure I or anyone for that matter is deeping just how massive it is to have a TWELVE point gap to 3rd - plus our crazy GD.

The sheer number of results we’d need to fuck up and still depend on others to fly is monstrous.

So essentially we have a slim chance of making the playoffs still?

I obviously want us to win the league if at all possible and it has been saddening me to see our 10 point lead chipped away, the past couple of games, but I have now stopped thinking like that.

The bottom line is we want to be promoted. Only the gap between us and 3rd is important in the grand scheme of things.

We are 13 points clear, taking into account our fabulous plus GD.

That's all we need to focus on. The gap between us and 3rd.

Look at the table this morning. We are in such a fabulous position and yesterday was a fantastic win for us..

This is where I'm at. Whilst it would be nice to win the league, I would have taken yesterdays results at the start of the day knowing Boro win but the chasing pack lost.

Telling you now that neither Ipswich or Southampton are good enough away from home to maintain that form. Both teams are at 1.2 ppg or below away from home, simply not good enough.

We’re the only team close to 2 ppg when we’re away.

There’s a decent possibility that all 3 promoted teams could be non parachute clubs.

Was saying the same yesterday, no idea if it's happened before but I doubt there's been many years when all the parachute teams are as low in the league as they currently are this year.

Wouldn't be a surprise to me at all. Both Middlesbrough and ourselves will be difficult to catch. The playoffs are a lottery and that's even if they make it to them. Every side keeps losing unexpectedly like Southampton to Norwich yesterday.

Middlesbrough are in their best form of the season...we are in our little bit off it..but still been good.

So i expect boro to drop off.

Anyway i still expect we will beat boro at home.

Just cant belueve even through this run we still extended our lead to 3rd place.

This run lol. We have lost away at promotion 2nd favourites Ipswich and drawn away at 3rd place Preston. If this is as bad as it gets

Their best form was at the start of the season. Won 7 drew 4 first 11 games. We were playing catch-up at that stage.
